camera was pointing towards the north valley. dumping a lot of rain there. the rain was coming down hard in phoenix as well. this was near 15th avenue and northern. a lot of people out there around 3:45 in the afternoon caught by surprise out riding their bikes or out for a walk and they got hammered pretty hard. let's take a live look from the south mountain tower camera. it is quiet out there right now. dave munsey joins us early look at the forecast. >> reporter: things are drying out after seeing a lot of moisture in here. some of the totals are good for seeing the storm roll through. you can see it going through there rapidly. there it goes again. we get you some of the numbers. look at here. we get 1.2 just to the northwest of peoria. we get south of peoria or south

there and .7 as we get closer to the phoenix area. we get down in here and you can see it coming over the top of peoria. here is an inch and it lightens up as we get closer to phoenix. we get .3 of an inch right there. the moisture spreading around. we get over to the sunnyslope area and get you a look at these numbers. the highest number is .7 lower than that in some other you can see the moisture coming through. a lot of the moisture missing the scottsdale area. you can see here once again, the numbers get pretty good as we get things over on the west side by wickenburg. where is this moisture going? is there more out there? we'll look at that coming up. >> reporter: the storms have passed here but you can see the reminisce of one of the areas hit really hard.

thunderbird. you can see the cars are getting through. this area was flooded. you can see on the sides of the streets here where the reminisce are that is where the water line was. phoenix police is here monitoring that one lane, basically, blocking it off so folks aren't getting into trouble that is where the water seems to be the deepest. we did talk to a neighbor a few minutes ago who lived here his whole life and says every time this exact intersection. they put a drain in on the side of the street, however, over the years, it has been clogged with sediment and dirt from all of the storms. all of the rain water goes into the street here. cars are starting to move. the water starting to dissipate here in the northern part of phoenix. reporting in north phoenix, ty brennan, fox 10 news.

coverage, you can download the fox 10 weather app. it is free and you can tune into fox news now for breaking weather coverage when storms happen. just months before the election, the u.s. attorney's office here in arizona is deciding whether or not to prosecute sheriff joe arpaio in a racial profiling case. a judge referred the case to federal prosecutors last nicole garcia is live with us tonight. >> reporter: this has never happened before, either here in arizona or elsewhere across the country. most attorneys have never heard of a federal judge recommending criminal charges against a top law enforcement official. here in arizona, the attorney's office will review the case, protesters outside demanding prosecution.

>> reporter: these protesters want to see sheriff joe arpaio in his own jail stripes. judge murrey snow says sheriff joe arpaio and his aids lied on the stand. >> we want him to go through the same thing our families have gone through. >> reporter: a former u.s. attorney for arizona says he has never heard of anything like this. >> if the attorney's office was doing this or had bookses that allowed him to do that, they would be blowing the dust off of the books because this is so rare of an occursance. >> reporter: prosecutors are reviewing the case but do not have a timetable for a decision. arpaio's attorney says they welcome a jury trial and will not agree to any sort of plea deal. if convicted, arpaio could face

>> it could be a matter of months and there will be an opportunity for the defense attorneys to meet with the defense attorney trying to convince them not to go forward. >> reporter: arpaio's lawyers are planning to meet with john leonardo about this case. from here, they can go forward with prosecution or decide not to and that leaves the justice out of washington, d.c. to prosecute the case. you decide, former democratic congresswoman gabby giffords is endorsing two senate republicans because of their stance on gun control. they voted to expand background checks and sales and gun shows online after the mass shooting

giffords was gravely wounded back in tucson in 2011. giffords and her husband made endorsements on behalf of their organization, americans for responsible solutions. tonight, we're hearing from a man who survived after shooting at the hands of a phoenix street shooter. this comes as they release new documents about what happened to the victim. it happened on july 11, near 30th street and thomas. the 22-year-old man was driving with his 4-year-old nephew when three shots at his car. the man and his nephew survived but the man is responsible for seven deaths and nine shootings. >> he wanted to make it obvious that he was looking at me. i firmly believe it was god's deliverance. lord jesus saved me from death. >> the suspect is described as a light skinned hispanic male in

a black bmw. a $50,000 reward is being offered in this case. if you have any information, call silent witness as 480-witness. a man turns himself in after police say he killed his roommate and now, they are investigating a tweet he sent where he threatened to kill his roommates. >> reporter: we spoke to a neighbor who did not want to be seen on camera. she had a feeling something bad would happen in this house and it d 21-year-old zachary penton called 911 saying he just killed his roommate, 41-year-old daniel garofalo. >> there is one bad seed in the neighborhood and everybody knew that already. >> reporter: penton had only been there a couple of months but garofalo was well known to neighbors and they avoided him.

he seemed nice but he was creepy. >> reporter: there were a number of things about the house that neighbors thought was strange. one of them, all of the security cameras. he told me that the f.b.i. is watching him and screening him. >> the guy is literally crazy. you can -- there's fights there. >> reporter: this tweet from an account police believe belongs to zachary need to move out of my place before i murder my roommates and yesterday he shot and killed daniel garofalo. >> it is sad somebody died but the neighborhood will be safer now. >> reporter: steve krafft, fox 10 news. phoenix police are investigating two deadly shootings over the weekend at the knights inn motel. one of the shootings happened this morning after midnight.

man were inside the hotel room when a second man knocked on the door. we're told there will is a fight and he ends up getting another shooting happened sunday night. a rapper was shot outside of the motel. police say the two crimes were not related but if you have any information about who killed contact phoenix police or silent witness at 480-witness. an attempted armed robber was shot and killed when he and an accomplice stormed the front desk at motel 6. a security guard was watching security monitors in the back office when he saw two armed men go into the front office wearing masks. counter so the security guard

the floodwaters are the flood waters are slowly receding in southern louisiana but it is a mess for residents living there. the cleanup started across the flood zones but this is only the beginning. they have so much to do there and some people can only get to their homes by boat. president obama is expected to tour the affected areas tomorrow. a surprise fire medical department is sending five firefighters out west to help control the fire burning in california. arizona crews will be deployed to the fire in santa barbara and another fire farther inland. the surprise crews could be

and sun city area where this storm system really came into the valley from. a little less than an inch in that area. scottsdale gets missed here. you see a flash of a storm and then everything is on out of here after that. as you look, you can see the black canyon area and up into flagstaff area. a little bit of moistur there. over in the white mountains, show low, a little bit of action there. we continue with flood advisory until 7:30 this evening in the lake havasu city area so moisture over there. you can see the dew point 54 in lake havasu. it has gone up a little bit. it was 55 an hour ago. it is 59 right now. coming down a little bit as far

we put the futurecast into motion. by tuesday, a little more action trying to get in here, whether it will or not, it is still iffy. we go to 100 degrees on the high today. you can see here, nice-looking temperatures. 76 in prescott. 70 in flagstaff. 100 on the high. 104 and 82 normal high and low. record high record low at 65. the gulf states get wet. you can see the stuff still hanging on. some pretty good moisture in a few different places across the southern plains. 77 degrees overnight. scattered showers and 97 degrees for tomorrow. we get back into the triple digits on wednesday and that lasts a couple of days. as we get into the weekend, another chance of rain.
