speeding on the us-60 eastbound this morning. a d.p.s. trooper tried to pull the motorcycle over as he got off of the freeway but lost sight of him. the man crashed into another car and died at the scene. no one else was hurt. a 3-year-old girl fighting for her life a week after she was struck by a phoenix police car after buying treat from the ice cream truck. today, her parents and attorney condition and new information about the crash. >> reporter: john, as phoenix police continue to investigate the tragic accident, the 3-year-old is still in the hospital in a medically induced sleep state. she has major head and brain injuries after she was hit and dragged by a police cruiser. today, the family shared the pain they are going through.

she is a fighter and excited to do something, something new every day. >> reporter: in a video message, vanessa's father talks about the little girl fighting for her life. vanessa had to undergo emergency surgery to remove portions of her skull to relieve brain swelling. >> vanessa was dragged under the police cruiser while her head and the side of her scraped against the asphalt. >> reporter: vanessa's mom and two other siblings raced to the girls a -- girls's side. >> these are images that they will never forget. >> reporter: vanessa just bought something from the ice cream truck. attorneys say the police cruiser was directly behind the truck, which had several signs warning drivers to be careful around

towards her home across the street and the officer did not see the girl until it was too late. attorneys insist vanessa did not run or dart into the street but they cannot specify how the 3-year-old ended up in the middle of the road. a separate investigation into the crash is underway. >> i would like to explain for my daughter and my family so she can get better. >> reporter: phoix say they are not commenting today. the officer involved in this accident is a 35-year-old female officer and we're told she is devastated by what happened. meanwhile, vanessa's attorneys have set up a website and go fund me page for those interested in helping her out, you can find a link to that website on fox10phoenix.com. the pinal county sheriff's office looking for three

a 46-year-old man was injured when he was hit with a handgun. men broke into the home demanding drugs and money. comments made by the suspects during the incident led them to believe they were targeting the wrong home in this instance. a 62-year-old woman in the home was not hurt. the gun instructor who was shot and killed girl with an uzi, the family filed a wrongful death lawsuit. he was teaching a 9-year-old girl how to shoot an uzi. the kick on the uzis are extremely strong. she lost control of the weapon and shot and killed her instructor by accident. the suit states that the girl

should have never handled the uzi. g.o.p. presidential hopeful is headed back to arizona. the city of mesa says trump's campaign has reached out to them looking for a site to make a policy speech next wednesday. he is looking far site that will hold more than 500 people. the city says it doesn't have any venues and advises campaigns to work trump is expected to make a major policy speech possibly on immigration. the trump campaign has not commented about the trip. did you get the early morning wake-up call? the loud thunder, lightning, the rain. >> it sounded like someone was moving a piano across our roof. >> exactly, it was rough out there. the monsoon rolling through valley overnight. the powerful storms leaving some people waking up in the dark because of the power outage.

5:00 a.m. if i don't have to. it was that loud and i had to this morning. the power is back on but it was a rough morning for 1,200 people. >> reporter: many people woke up to rain this morning while other woke up to no power. in the area of 32nd street and mcdowell, 1,100 people were without power this morning. some say it is because lightning struck a power >> we were working at 5:00 and lightning hit the pole right there. we just came out to be nosey. >> reporter: she thought it was a car crash until she went outside. >> it was a pop and the lights went out, came on and then they went out again. >> reporter: the power pole across the street started to act up. >> every other minute there was an explosion on this side and

plus, what are investigators are saying about an apartment fire that killed three children and an adult. those stories coming up at 6:00. >> reporter: hi, folks. look at that 95 degrees. it is breezy with winds out of the north, northwest at 12 miles an hour. it is 94 in surprise. 93 in fountain hills. chandler, mid 90's. mesa, it is 99 degrees. you can see some moisture twirling around the low pressure system. you can see the motion of the low there. as we run down and take a look at it, take a look at this stuff. we had to put it back about 12 hours to get that. in fact, we just lost that last frame of it. it was impressive in some area, not so impressive in other. take a look at fountain hills,

there. we get up in the northern portion, north of phoenix, .2 of an inch so not a tremendous amount. certainly, coming in with a lot of announcement that it is out there. it woke everybody up. as it rotates around the low, it is moving off to the east and a little bit to the northeast. some of us picking up a couple of tenths here and there. .9 of an inch north of holbrook area. you can see the show low area picking up a little bit of moisture as that system flows through. once again, it is through there. we do have a little bit of warnings out there, just an advisory and that is for a little bit of flooding. way up in the northwestern

picked up pretty good moisture though. .25 at show low. a little more than .25 of an inch in st. johns. we're getting fairly good amounts. dew points are up there like they were yesterday. they are higher in the north than they were yesterday at this time. take a look at the futurecast. there is thursday. we get into friday and we start to see more action starts picking up by friday. it is 96 degrees for the high today. 92 up in deer valley. 74 in prescott. 62 in flagstaff. as we get a look at the national map, we have a little bit of flooding in colorado and in utah. windy conditions up across the northern plains with 60 miles an hour gusts in south dakota. 100 decision for tomorrow.
