>> and thank you for being with us. first tonight at 6:00, take a look, monsoon activity in the valley. we had gusts up to 50 miles per hour and rain moving through parts of phoenix. you are looking at this video right now from adot, the national weathe service says the valley is getting strong outflow winds from distant storms. this video is right along the loop 101 at 67th avenue and see rain there on the camera lense and it's pretty soggy commute home for those drivers in slick conditions during the kristy siefkin is tracking the storm tonight for us tonight and joins us live with a look at the forecast. >> an hour ago we talked about how the storms were struggling to get here to the valley. they have arrived and like you said it's that outflow boundary that brought the rain to us right here. let's take you to our sat-rad and i will show you exactly where we are seeing that moisture. wide shot as a reminder of where we are seeing this moisture. coming out of northwestern arizona and some of the rain coming off the rim a bit earlier into the lower desert

is just the past couple of hours and it's the quick progression of that rain north of the valley into really central sections of the valley in realtime taking a look at our sweeping radar. i will show you exactly what sections of the valley are seeing heavy rain. take a look at i-17 south of the 101. an extremely heavy pocket of rain there and these rainfall rates incredibly impressive. this cell we are looking at that deep red color are talking about two and a half inches of rain falling in just an hour lg period. as we move a little farther to the north and to the west out toward estancia, the 303 heavier rain there. that's such heavy rain. probably commuters in that area are needing to pull over to the side of the road. not safe conditions. the winds as mark mengszed very gusty. -- mentioned, very gusty. lightning with the storms. i will track them over the updates on social media as well. thank you.

tornadoes and funnel clouds are reported. and this video, wow, it's into our newsroom. look at the devastation there. significant damage to more than a dozen buildings. this is in howard county and the county seat of kokomo no major injuries reported which is amazing when you look at that damage. republican vice-presidential candidate mike pence is heading back to his home state tonight after campaigning in north carolina. and tonight only on phoenix police arrest a man who is suspected of shooting and wounding a woman that he had been romontally involved with. and -- romontally involved with. romantically involved with. detectives say 19-year-old malik thompson had been on the run since he shot a woman multiple times last week at an apartment complex near desert cove and cave creek road. fox 10's nicole garcia is live now with how this bust went down. mother telling me she saw him at

police. let me show you where this is at. she saw him near 35th avenue and base line in south phoenix and said she tipd off police because she wanted to protect him and others. this is the exact opposite side of town where he is accused of shooting a woman up in north phoenix who was twice his age. i talked to the mom and she can't tell us why he opened fire on her. it was malik thompson's mother who called police alerting them that she had seen her son in the line wednesday morning. police confronted thompson with their guns drawn. initially they say he tried to run away but eventually gave up surrendering to officers without a fight. >> i see some guy running passed me and then as i'm still running so i stop and look at him and see the police come out with the really big gun and then i get scared. and then i start crying. >> police have not said why

times. the shooting took place last week in an apartment complex. the opposite side of town where thompson was caught. according to police and thompson's mother, he was romantically involved with the victim who was more than 20 years older than him. the mother did not want to go on camera but she did want to make a statement. >> malik was a troubled child with special needs and he actually met ms. soto down at the maricopa juvenil detentionle center. >> on several occasions you know i warned her about dating my son. that he was very immature and not mentally stable to be seeing a woman of her age. >> now police have not released a motive for the shooting. the victim was last listed in extremely critical condition. thompson has been booked into jail and facing several felony charges including attempted

and phoenix police are working to develop leads in the shooting death of a 33-year-old man. officers say perkins encountered a group of people last night near adams and 19 pght street when an argument broke out and somebody shot and killed perkins and then the group took off. anybody who has information is being asked to call phoenix p.d. or silent witness. glendale police arrest a man who is accused in a string of sexual assaults dating back to 2014 police say they used dna to those crimes. he allegedly assaulted a woman at an apartment complex near 47th avenue and maryland. moody accused in two other attacks around the same time and police say he did confess. he is facing one count of sexual assault and two counts of sexual abuse. >> i'm linda williams. a developing story out of new mexico tonight. where three young children missing after their mother was found murdered are found safe.

at a motel near albuquerque where they were left with a good samaritan. tonight the manhunt continues for their accused abductors, joshua robertson and britney humphrey. detectives say the couple traveled with the children through arizona and into new mexico. after killing their kids' mother in southern california. the body of kimberly harival was discovered ten days ago with gunshot wounds along a road in los angeles county. she was britney humfry. deputies say harival and her kids had been moving from motel to motel and panhandling in the fresno area. they say she and the couple were involved with meth. the suspects are believed to be driving a 1999 green ford expedition and should be considered armed and dangerous. linda williams, "fox 10 news." more than a dozen dogs seized from a buckeye home after

they were being kept in were extremely poor. here is some video from inside the home. this started with a welfare check and, boy, you see the conditions this there are just awful. that -- welfare check yesterday -- the home owner wouldn't let deputies in so they came back with a search warrant today. and once they were inside they found 11 dogs living in the conditions and two of them were found outside yesterday. neighbors called the dogs a nuisance and ran around the neighborhood. one neighbor says he believes some of those dogs attacked other a 65-year-old woman lives in that home but it's not clear tonight if she will be facing charges. another gambling bust just weeks after a phoenix poker room was raided a glendale internet cafe is closed down today after police say customers there were gambling illegally. fox 10's ty brennan has more. >> the business is called mega bite and is located on 59th avenue and momentum the arizona department of gaming says it investigated the cafe for months and found it was allowing

voters will head to the polls next tuesday in arizona's primary election. i'm kristy siefkin. a "fox 10 news" alert out of afghanistan where attackers target the american university of afghanistan with gunfire and grenades. at least one guard is dead, nearly 20 other people wounded. security forces are working to track down the attackers on campus. meanwhile the military has identi killed yesterday by a roadside bomb in afghanistan. 28-year-old army staff sergeant matthew thompson was from orange county, california. six afghan troops were wounded in the blast. kristy siefkin, "fox 10 news." sign of hope in italy after an eight-year-old girl is pulled from the rubble alive. in a town that was devastated by that powerful earthquake early this morning. that magnitude 6 quake has

old girl was pretty upsed ten-year-old girl was upset and rightfully so after her backpack was stolen from her mom's car but the responding officers decided to turn that crime into a surprise for that girl. this happened last week. the girl's name is alexia and thieves broke into her mom's car. they took her back pack with her supplies and the officers notice ed that alexia was wearing a d-backs jersey and started talking to her about the team and days later they surprised

diamondbacks back pack. >> we noticed that she was experiencing quite a bit of anxiety which is something that victims of criminal activity will often experience. so we realized we needed to do something for this little girl. when we gave her the backpack, she was excited that her favorite team had shown an interest in her and helping her out. so it was a lot of fun. >> those officers really turned around a bad situation for that girl. and they contacted that's when they all worked together to get alexia that new team backpack. adot crews are not only widening the loop 101 south of shea boulevard but are bringing the desert scenery back. more than a thousand plants including 400 saguaros were removed before crews began widening the freeway. some of the cacti had a been around since arizona had been a state. they were stored in nurseries before being replanted. the widening project is expected

i don't know if i have seen an adot camera move around like we just saw. >> shaking a ton pockets of a lot of wind. we are talking 40 to 50-mile-per-hour gusts and rain still moving into the valley. some of these cells so strong, not only are we seeing heavy rain but we are seeing areas of hail. i want to start with our sat-rad and zoom in and show you exactly where in the valley we are seeing this moisture. this is a realtime shot of the rain moving into the valley. pockets of very heavy rain and i'm going to take you around neighborhood by neighborhood. take a look at this not only

and 32 street. as we move farther to the west and to the north along i-17, we are seeing extremely heavy rain and heavy cells earlier along 17 around thunderbird check out this heavy cell of rain. the precipitation rate extreme. 1 1/4 inch of rain an hour. those aren't the only places that are seeing rain. as we move farther to the north along the 17 and there is heavy hour as indicated by the very dark red and purple cells. as i mentioned to marc, gusty wind 40z to 50 miles per hour. as we take a look at the wind speeds, you will notice that right here in the valley that's one of the places that is the windiest. gusts in that area 21 miles per hour. in fact, some areas just outside of the valley in northeastern maricopa county seeing gusts 40, 50 miles per hour some we will continue to track this weather for you of course over the

the reason that we are seeing this very active weather out there and an area of low pressure that's moved through the state. once we get through the storms, we will see drier conditions, milder conditions. that moisture should be moving out of the forecast and we will get a break from that monsoon pattern. look at those temperatures right now anywhere from the 90s in casa grande to triple digits for yuma and lake havasu. it's a different story as we get into that warmer territory. quick look at your ten day updated on the rainfall totals and the picture is a chance of rain continuing tonight into tomorrow. little bit of a drier picture friday night and then that chance of rain back into the forecast as we get into your saturday and your sunday. coming up in sports this is why the third pre-season game is the most important. richard saenz is standing by in glendale. he is at cards training camp and
