the director who is retiring for health reasons. the v.a. was at the national scandal about wait times that led to a system wide overhaul and exposed deep, deep problems within the v.a. it is hard to forget this image from yesterday. a bus swallowed up by a sinkhole. this is 35th avenue and van buren. it was a mess. >> seven f wide, gushing gallons of water into the street. today, surrounding businesses working to get everything fixed and cleaned up. liz kotalik was there and she has a progress report tonight. >> reporter: crews are busy fixing the line that caused the gaping hole, just feet away is louis bored a work as he sits and waits.

because of this? >> the streets are closed, the cars are dirty because of water. reporter: this is what his auto lot looked like yesterday in 4:00 in the afternoon. in front of him, a city bus sat stuck inside a seven foot sinkhole, a scene he watched from beginning to end. >> the street was like a balloon. it was broken and the water was filling up the hole and five seconds later, the bus coming so he is going inside the hole. >> reporter: no passengers on bored the bus but it started after a 24-inch water line broke. the water gushing out making it 100 yards down the street about 7 inches filling a puddled auto lot, as workers sat watching the water creep closer to their always. >> we were scared.

inside the building. >> reporter: it didn't and they are grateful that it did not damage the cars. for now, he waits as crews work to get everything back to normal. crews will have to fix this throughout the weekend. 35th avenue is back open but you can expect van buren to be closed until monday. small plane makes a crash landing in scottsdale. it happened this morning at scottsdale municipal airport. it landed fox helicopter lands. it does not look like there is much damage here to the plane either. phoenix police looking into if two shootings that hand within hours of each other were related. a man was shot outside of his home at 22nd street and broadway. the man knocked on doors until he found someone to take him to the hospital. at last check, he was in stable

surgery. the last shooting was 24th street and broadway. the man opened fire on three others in the home. two of the men died, a third is expected to be ok. police are investigating if the shooting was drug related. latino leaders in maryvale are calling on people in their community to come forward with tips to help catch the serial shooter. the reward for information leading to an arrest stands at $75,000. there are people out there with information but they are too scared to report what they know. nicole garcia is here with the latest. they are pretty sure of this, huh? >> reporter: the county attorney says immigration status will not be questioned if someone comes forward with a tip. still community leaders say many spanish speakers are afraid to go to the police.

avenue near greenway and a chase bank near central and columbus on 18th. he got away with both bank robberies and did not show a weapon. he was wearing gold-rimmed eye glasses during one of the robberies. if you have any information, call the f.b.i. thieves hit a mesa r.v. dealership making off with thousands of dollars worth of tailgates. the business owners are hoping surveillance video will lead police to the suspects and they are offing a reward. danielle miller has a look at the video. >> reporter: john, that happened during the early morning hours around 2:30 on thursday. these are the five trucks that the tailgates were stolen from. in the surveillance video that you're about to watch, it took these thieves about 10 minutes to steal all five. >> they can pop then off in two

arrest. >> we have a solid look at the vehicle so the vehicle is not a standard vehicle. you can see it on the video, it kind of stands out. got a good chance of finding the guys. >> reporter: barr says the cancel is in the process of hiring a security guard to patrol the grounds here of their dealership because of this incident. if you have any information on this theft, you're asked to call police. reporting live, danielle miller, fox 10 d.p.s. removed more than 2,000 marijuana plants from an abandoned cultivation site in arizona. the site had $3 million worth of pot. two armed men confronted tribal members near the plants. the case remains under investigation. you decide 2016, voting got easier for a.s.u. students.

the united states to start screening for the zika virus. the goal is to protect the nation's blood supply from the mosquito-borne virus. the recommendation is a major expansion from the one in february that limited regulation to areas with active zika infection. >> this is a recommendation not a requirement. >> reporter: they already test blood donations for nile, and other viruses. adding zika to the panel is less than $10. >> we're continuing to test donated blood for anybody who traveled to a zika-impacted area or someone who had sex with someone who traveled with a zika-impacted area. >> reporter: there has been

but it has not happened in united states. >> in arizona, especially people who give blood in southern arizona, yuma, san luis, we saw a heavier decline in donations because people who travel across the border. >> reporter: zika is spread primarily by mosquito bites and sex. it causes a mild illness in most people but scientists have confirmed an infection during pregnancy can birth defects. >> our blood supply has never been safer and it is safe to donate blood as well. >> the recommended expansion is not going to happen at once. they want 11 states to start testing, arizona included in starting it first.

filed to keep legalizing marijuana off of the arizona ballot. that is all coming your way at 6:00. what a day. we started off with rain showers and if you are traveling out and about around the state up in the high country, you're seeing rain showers. the monsoon keeps giving. we're at 98 degrees. the humidity is at 24%. the dew point is high enoug bring in a few rain showers. the pressure is falling right now. 98 was the high today. 104 is the normal. look at that record. i don't remember the 117. >> we blocked it out of our mind. >> yes, we blocked it out of our mind. we don't want to remember this date in august of 2011, it was

high country, north of phoenix and south of phoenix. the question is, will they make their way in south of the valley, 10%-15% chance. north of i-40, big storms. flagstaff saw storms. prescott got rain today and south of us a few storms are popping but not right here. the dew points would support some of these storms. 59 in casa grande. anything weather for a storm to begin to form. as we see here, we're starting to see the dew points climb a couple of degrees here in the valley. i do think there is a 10%-15% chance making their way in. since midnight, they got more than an inch of rain in the high country, .16 in prescott. .10 of an inch in winslow. a trace in show low.

the valley. look at the futurecast. we dry things out over the weekend. saturday, we see a chance of storms up through the high country but for the most part, we start to dry things out for the next few days. temperature, when we dry the weather out, it goes up so we'll see that as well. take a look at the forecast lows for tonight. as we move through all of this, we're seeing temperatures tomorrow a couple degrees lower. hitting louisiana. it is not a tropical depression. it is expected to bring 3-5 inches to miami and could bring a couple inches to louisiana. a 10% chance of rain and we put the 10 day together and here is what is happening. we dry things up for saturday and sunday. the temperature begins to rise a touch, about 104 by monday.

it's a big concern with it is always a major concern for parents when they let their kids play sports, particularly football. today, the results of statewide survey involving arizona teens and the numbers are surprising. kristy siefkin joins us live with the story. what did you find out? >> reporter: interesting numbers here, john.

complete concussion training and that program is called the brain book. it is out of barrow and a new study from barrow shows training may have a big impact on students reporting concussions and choosing particular sports to play. a new study from barrow neurological institute shows more arizona high schoolers are reporting concussions than ever before. >> a third of high school seniors report having had a concussion. this is far > than published in the literature of the 10% range. >> reporter: the doctor who led the study believes that concussion education is the reason for the spike. of the 300 high schoolers polled, 80% of the student athletes said they told their coach if they thought they had a con cushion. 30% would tell their parents.
