lot of frustrated people on i-17. >> reporter: we're here at the sunset point rest stop, which is two miles north of where this happened. we were heading this way to talk to holiday travelers when this happened. we were a dozen cars back when this happened. as you said, it started as a flatbed trailer truck started on fire then it went into the brush starting a the reason why the freeway was shut down. when we were sitting there, there was thick, black heavy smoke. people were getting out of their cars and givingers water. we were sitting there for 30 minutes. we talked to u. of a. soccer

n.a.u. for a soccer game. as you guys mentioned, we did speak with the owner of the trailer that caught fire. he is telling us he is glad nobody was hut. -- hurt. he wants to say a big thank you to samaritans who helped take things off of the flatbed trailer. if they wouldn't have helped them, he would have lost everything. >> i had to get it off of the main part of the highway soar people were not involved. i got it off of the highway. when that is on fire, it is not a little fire. >> reporter: one lane of the i-17 northbound is open at this time.

4% from last year. >> we're getting word that both lanes on i-17 just reopened so that is good news. adot says there are no construction closures and they want drivers to focus on safe driving. the warning says dumb drivers and smartphones don't mix. if you don't have a designated driver, you can a safe ride and a free ride home on labor day. aaa is offering its tipsy tow service. it starts 6:00 p.m. monday night and runs through tuesday morning. it will take a driver, passenger, and a vehicle up to 10 miles for free. drivers or passengers can call 1-800-aaa for service. will the weather cooperate

>> reporter: we'll get more cooperation with weather than traffic. that is a mess up there. a lot of people like to hop in the car and head out for the weekend. boy, this is something that folks are going to like and that is the lows are coming down. look at those 70's around the valley and the nice-looking lows. we got 40's and 50's and 60's up in the take your jacket. the lows in the desert look good as well. we look at the highs, we have 70's and 80's across the mountains. look at show low, 77. the desert is warm as we see the triple digits down in there. day by day, let's look at it. 102 on saturday. the record is 112. sunday, 98 degrees with lots of sunshine. here's labor day, 99 degrees.

class protesting in the center of williams field campus upset the school's principal. >> a lot of people are angry and i don't think this is going to stop until the district hears us. >> reporter: the students say they got the word today that the principal turned in their resignation. students were not given an official explanation. >> p know the kind of person she is and she stands up for what is right. >> reporter: the walkout was quickly organized by a text message. >> i said wait until this time and i said go and everyone in my class and everyone in their classes went and it was 600 kids. >> teachers did not stand in the way. >> we decided to do it as a school, it was all or nothing.

here. 103 as we mentioned. 102 in glendale. 99 in scottsdale. 98 at apache junction. 103 in ahwatukee. as we look across the state here, you can see a little bit of active weather out there. not much threatening the valley at this time. we have had a few flood advisories throughout the day today. as we look at it, bagdad area north, a little bit of weather heading across the north. you can see some from prescott up into flagstaff and north of there. more active weather. we're going to get you a look at the eastern portion of the state looking back into the flagstaff area. where we do see a few showers and some of them picking up a little bit of -- picking up heavy rain in a few different areas but a lot of stuff is dying down. we continue to have a few
