crime tape surrounding a valley apartment after a gruesome discovery is made. police say a burned body was found in the rubble. a lot of people are out having fun this holiday weekend and police are also out in full force looking for drunk drivers. aaa has a way you can avoid day weekend. donald trump stumping in detroit. reaches out to the motor city's african-american community. thank you for joining us tonight. first on fox, phoenix police investigating an apartment fire where one victim was found at the scene. >> they're calling this a suspicious death. marcy jones has the latest. marcy? >> reporter: that's right.

but neighbors describe him as a white man in his 30s. now as investigators try to piece together exactly what led up to the death, neighbors say they're concerned. >> i just saw a lot of cops and a lot of sirens and things like that. and i was pretty curious of what was going on. >> just before 2:00 this morning, police were called to an apartment fire on 43rd avenue and thunderbird road. neighbors say it was an alarming sight. >> woke up this morning and there was a bunch of -- the police command and stuff here. so i kind of asked them, you know, i got kids and stuff, so i asked them, i'm kind of concerned what's going on. they have it roped off and it's obvious that they're going in one specific apartment. >> reporter: police say one person is dead. neighbors describing the rtd as a white male in his -- the resident as a while male in his 30s. >> he said the guy is dead obviously and his body was burned. so -- >> interesting. >> beyond recognition, he said, his face. >> reporter: still waiting for more details on exactly what happened. neighbors say they feel for the

>> yeah, it's not something that you want to see anywhere, but especially at your house and walking out to that type of thing is never fun for anybody. but hopefully the family gets some type of answers pretty quickly. and justice will be served. that's all we can really hope for. >> reporter: police say they don't expect another update until tomorrow morning to gove gove -- give the family enough time to nerve loved ones -- notify police investigating a shooting tonight. officers say a man was shot in the chest right outside his home. this is near 35th avenue and baseline road. this unfolded this morning at about 4:30 when they say the man got into an argument with two people. one of the suspects opened fire, hitting that man once. he was rushed to the hospital. his condition is unknown at this time. police haven't said if they've arrested any suspects. the family of a man who was shot and killed two years ago is

put that suspect behind bars. kevin orr was shot and killed while he was walking to his house. police say that he was last seen working at the roadrunner bar near 7th street and northern avenue. his family says they want the suspect behind bars so that person cannot hurt anyone else. >> and -- and until we know or until, you know, there's an arrest or -- whoever did this is out walking around, and can do that to your >> if you think you might have some informtion that may help in this case, you're being asked to call silent witness at 480-witness. more violence as a man is stabbed while sleeping in his pickup truck. police say that he was parked near this convenience store on 16th street and roosevelt. the suspect ran away from the scene after stabbing the victim. the victim was able to drive just a few blocks before collapsing. he's expected to be okay.

made any arrests. and police also asking for your help in finding two men who robbed a convenience stores. police say that two men entered the circle k. this is the one near i-17 and glendale. one of the men held up the clerk at gunpoint and the other started taken cigarettes and beer. the man with with the gun hit te clerk in the head and ran with that bag of cigarettes and peer. >> we certainly don't want them fighting over property and that's video, the clerk is just standing there doing his job when they cut him. when they held him at gunpoint and they hit him with the gun, too. >> if you have any information, call police. labor day weekend is here and law enforcement officials, they're out working to keep the streets safe from impaired drivers. police are cracking down on drunk and impaired drivers across the valley. departments statewide have additional officers on the roads and several checkpoints that are starting tonight at 6:00 p.m.

driver this labor day weekend, you've got a lot of choices between uber and lyft and cab companies and now again, aaa. they do this pretty much every big holiday. the tipsy tow service is being offered at 6:00 monday night through 6:00 a.m. tuesday morning. a tow truck driver will load up your car, take you and the passenger up to 10 miles for free. drivers or passengers can call 1-800-aaa on monday. this is one of the largest an may conventions -- animay conventions in the country. >> it featured voice actors from popular japanese shows and gaming designers. the convention continues to get bigger as they expect 9,000 people this year. people say they want to make it here that animay are not car soons. >> it's more of a -- kind of

unofficial well, wung the election was tuesday, but unofficial election results were released today for two pretty close races. >> and those results showing maricopa county recorder helen purcell ahead by about 200 votes against aaron flannery. >> a much closer race for congressional district 5.

votes. >> and fox 10's danielle miller joins us live with more on why this race will now need a recount. danielle? >> reporter: nine votes between the two candidates is virtually a tie and automatically triggers a recount. we spoke with the political analyst today and tetells us that although both candidates have claimed victory, the only one who can officially call the race is an election officil. >> christine jones claimed victory on election night. an now. it's a political thing do. >> reporter: the race for the republican nomination for district 5 neck and neck, that according to unofficial results released today putting biggs ahead by just nine votes. >> we never have an election this close at the congressional level in arizona. this is really close. really close. so once again, we can say does every vote matter? yes. >> reporter: political consultant stan barns says this

tropical stotm hermine is intensifying... tropical storm hermine is intensifying. packing up to 70-mile-per-hour winds as well as heavy rains. the aftermath still being felt in parts of north carolina and virginia. fox news reporter joel waltman has the latest from the outer banks. >> reporte high tides still lingering along the outer banks, a day after hermine slammed into north carolina. hermine is picking up steam as it moves north. once again nearing hurricane strength. this storm system drenching dozens of communities across north carolina friday night. >> some of those gusts were probably 50-mile-an-hour, because it was blowing me from one side of the road to the other. >> reporter: strong whipping winds continuing into the afternoon saturday, leaving many

thousands of residents losing power in both inland and coastal areas. >> still on my porch out on the back here. big gust of wind. you could hear some popping and sizzling and kind of a loud explosion. >> reporter: parts of neighboring virginia also feeling the effects of hermine. thousands of homeowners waking up to downed trees and major power outages. one thing is for sure. residents are looking forward to a much quieter second half of the labor day holiday weekend. >> it's going to be nice. this there's always great weather after hurricanes. >> reporter: as hermine comments north, severe weather warnings are now in effect in coastal areas from virginia all the way up to connecticut. in the outer bearings of north carolina, joe waldman, fox news. well, it's shaping up to be a really nice weekend for us, especially with the labor day weekend here. a lot of people are enjoying the outdoors, heading up north. pretty much perfect conditions for that. you can see right now we got 94 degrees for with you winds out

miles per hour. taking a look over the valley, looks like a very nice clear night out there. you can see why when we look at the satellite and radar. we don't have a lot of any kind of cloud cover or moisture in our area right now. we're not going to see that for several days. a high pressure system that's keeping all of that away. so here's what we've got. looks very nice and clear for us. pretty much for the entire state. just a few stray showers that were popping up earlier today. those have now moved on out and so here we are. just a really nice conditions for us. the dew points are very low. that's why we're monsoon storms firing up. no chance of that for the next several days. these are going to be low. the low the dew points we need to see any monsoon type of activity. 91 in surprise, also for goodyear. cave creek 86 degrees and fountain hills 92. apache junction 87. the rest of the state, you are at 76 for you in kingman right now. 55 in flagstaff.

74 in page. in the southern part, 87 in tucson, 91 gila bend, and 86 in safford right now. for the record, we were at 106 degrees for our high today. 106. that is above normal by three degrees. the record was set back in 1983 at 112 degrees and we'll be around normal. 83 degrees tonight. for the rest of the country, we have some weather making its way up into the denver in montana as well. and then down in the gulf they're still getting a lot of moisture that caused so many problems there with the tropical storms and the hurricane hermtz has made its way through. that is mainly passing through heading up the eastern seaboard. still some weather off the coast of new york and washington, boston up there. so they're still seeing some active weather but it's moving its way through the atlantic and should be out of there hopefully in the next couple of days. the radar, you can see the activity that's going on over there. forecast lows for us, nice

born without arms says she was discriminated against by staff at universal orlando. jessica cox says she was not allowed on to any rides during a recent visit to the florida theme park. she says he was given a pamphlet that states that the rider must be able to grasp with at least one natural upper extremity. cox flies airports. she has -- airplanes. she has a black belt and as amotional variable speaker. -- a motivational speaker. american airlines will offer direct flies from santa fe and phoenix. a flight will depart once a day from phoenix to santa fe in the morning and head back in the other direction later in the evening. the flight will only offer 70 seats. tickets go on sale monday. and thousands of people gathering in santa fe, new mexico, to burn their worries away at the 92nd

back in june, but many britons have been expressing voter remorse since that vote. thousands gathered at today's demonstration to oppose brexit. there are additional protests planned in cities across the country. pope francis holding a prayer vigil for mother teresa at the vatican. will be canonized by the pope tomorrow. the event is expected to be attended by tens of thousands of people. mother treata is known for her -- teresa is work caring for the poor in india. the pope praised the work of volunteers and said those suffering is a modern sin, a sin of today. thousands in oklahoma jarred out of a sound sleep by this. it's a 5.9 -- 5.6 earthquake. surveillance video shows the force of the tremors. the u.s. geological survey says the quick hit at about 7:00 this morning.

from northwest pawnee, oklahoma. no injuries were reported. but several buildings were damaged. reports indicate the quake was felt as far away as nebraska and into texas. an accident at the delta fair in memphis sends several people to the hospital. a ride suddenly stopped. it's believed that ride detected a malfunction and then stopped on its own. the right operator then mistakenly released the safety belts and several rides were either center of the right. there are no-no injuries but several passengers said that ordeal was very scary. >> it was really scary. i was trying to stay calm. i was telling her to calm down. and it was just really scary. everybody was crying on the floor. they didn't know what to do. screaming moms were telling everyone to come on and it was really scary. >> and the delta fair is still open but the moon raker ride that this happened on is closed

investigators in this central minnesota say the remains of jacob wetterling have been found. the sheriff's office says jacob's remains were identified today. jacob was 11 when he was kidnapped from a rural road near his home back in 1989. 53-year-old danny heinrich was named as a person of it just last year. heinrich was charged with multiple counts of child pornography, but denies former nfl player lawrence taylor is now facing d.u.i. charges in florida. troopers from the florida highway patrol says the 57-year-old was involved in an accident yesterday evening. he reportedly changed lanes, hit a motor home, and sideswiped a patrol car. taylor playing 13 seasons with the new york giants, helping the team win the super bowl titles in 1987 and '91. in 2011 he was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty

we finally get to watch some football finally, we fill not a scrimmage, not a practice. but real college football. well, the pros kick off next weekend. but as i mementszed, the college kids got it all started tonight. and that includes the arizona state sun devils. asu hosting the lumberjacks. manny wilkins gets the start as quarterback. this is the opening kickoff. he goes with the pooch kick. not a good idea. caleb says thank you very much. nice return right here.
