>> yesterday, demonstrators supporting the standing rock sioux tribe faced off with private security officers from dallas-based energy transfer partners. they are the ones who are building the pipeline. >> and protestors say they are worried that the massive pipeline, which is slated to run throughout four states could upset the reservation's sacred sites and also taint the land's drinking water. marcy jones as more on the history of the pipeline and local reaction. >> that's right, this is something that's been argued over for years, but once the u.s. army corps of engineers granted the permit to build the pipeline, several hundred protestors forced construction to halt. now it's up to a judge to make the final decision. russell beget, president of navajo nation says the fight against the pipeline is bigger than just the tribe. >> they were making the stand not just for the tribe, not just for other tribes that are in the area, but for people that live

>>reporter: he says even people who don't live near the massive pipeline shouldbe gravely concerned with the construction of it, especially if something doesn't go as planned. >> and if something like that were to happen with the size pipe that they're working on, it would have done incredible -- it would do incredible damage to the whole ecosystem. not only that, but the economy. >>reporter: even though this is a fight about the future, beget says it digs up an ugly history from the past. >> you see the fight that our put up trying to protect the buffalo, trying to protect the land that they lived on traditionally, trying to protect the natural resources even back then. >>reporter: while the clash continues to heat up between protestors and supporters of the pipeline, begay says the only silver lining is that a new generation is discovering a passion for their culture. >> young people are saying, you know, this is where we're

we don't understand our language, we don't speak our language, we live off the nation, we have jobs away from the reservation, but to come back here is that we're understanding what it means to be native americans. >> a federal judge will rule before september 9th whether construction can be halted on the pipeline. reporting live, marcy jones, fox 10 news. tense moments as a car sinks into the salt river canal. now, the driver was rescued just moments before t completely submerged. scottsdale police telling us that the driver was traveling on lincoln drive at about 76th street when he failed to stop for a stop sign there. they say he continued on a pedestrian path, hit a fence, and then crashed. well, you see him right there in the middle of the canal. scottsdale fire crews were able to rescue the driver from the vehicle. he was taken to the hospital with serious but

authorities tell us impairment is likely a factor in this crash. phoenix fire crews worked to put out some flames at a mobile home, but they had a tough time there because that structure was all boarded up. the fire sparked at the mobile home near 32nd street and greenway, and a witness was passing by the mobile home last night, called 911 after seeing those flames. by the time firefighters got there, the flames had spread to a second mobile home there and the woman who owns that home wasn't home when the fire started. luckily, nobody was injured. the cause of the fire remains under investigation tonight. it was a bit of a scare at the brand new odyssey aquarium in scottsdale this morning. firefighters responded to a call at the aquarium around 6:00 this morning on reports of seeing smoke. luckily, though, they found out it was just a minor electrical problem. people were in long lines waiting for the aquarium's grand opening just yesterday. developing story tonight. phoenix police still investigating a fire where they found a man's body burned inside an apartment.

43rd avenue and thunderbird, caught fire early yesterday morning. when firefighters got there, they discovered the body of a white male in his 30s. investigators are trying to piece together what led up to his death, but right now, they are calling it suspicious. authorities in mesa need your help tonight trying to find a teen who has been missing since yesterday. take a good look at this photo. this is dillon meyer. he's 15 years old, he's got brown hair. he's about now, we're told he has asberger's syndrome and is bipolar. if you think you know anything or if you have seen him, you're being asked to call police. it is labor day weekend and law enforcement agencies around the state are gearing up for a busy couple of days here. >> that's right. and several agencies are all teaming up holding dui task

for drivers who might be drunk or impaired. >> daniel miller joins us live with more on how they're helping people get home safely. >>reporter: marc and linda, nwadays, there is truly just no excuse to drink and drive, especially with all of the resources that we have. now, some of those resources do cost a little bit of money, but some are completely free. >> take you, your vehicle, and one passenger back to your house safely. >>reporter: that's exactly what aaa is planning to do for you this labor day weekend with its tipsy tow program. different law enforcement agencies will be holding dui task forces throughout the valley. police will be looking for those driving while impaired. >> we encourage drivers to already have a plan in place, but should your driver accidentally drink, or should your ride fall through, what have you, aaa tipsy tow is there to help you just in case. >>reporter: every year, aaa helps hundreds of drivers get home safely with tipsy tow.

team is on a mission to build as many bears as they can for sick children. but, they say they can't do it alone. the lady blackhawks from williamsfield high school have been building bears for three years. to date, they hand picked and have decorated 230 bears for the kids at cardans children's hospital and most of the donated bears have been played for with the players' own money. >> we started this my freshman do something to give back to the community. >> you can't really describe the feeling of when you see, like, the kid's face light up and you gave them the bears and it just makes you feel so warm inside. >> but the team is now asking for the community to rally. its goal is to give 400 bears within their four years at school. so, they set up a go fund me, and you can get to it on our web site. fox10phoenix.com.

those are set to go off at 7:45 tonight, so there's still plenty of time to head out and catch that show. well, it's turned out to be quite a nice weekend out there and hopefully most of you have tomorrow off as well so you're enjoying this. we're right at the century mark right now and you can see we got some light winds out of the northwest at 3 miles per hour right now. take a look at our tower cam looking over the valley right now. wow. looking great out there. enjoying the pool right over here, the palomar hotel, maybe. there's some parties going on over there, probably across the valley as well, so a nice day for it. taking a look at our satellite and radar, we've got a high pressure system that's really keeping moisture out of our state and really surrounding states as well. take a look at california and nevada. up in utah as well. we've just got these dry conditions that are going to last throughout most of the week. we'll see a change in that. that's coming up in your ten-day forecast. but for now, we're not expecting any chances of monsoon activity.

look at our dew points. they are low right now. we're not seeing any dew points getting up to where we would see some monsoon moisture, monsoon activity, the 55 or so that we normally see that fires off those monsoon storms. so that's the conditions we'll be experiencing for the next few days. here we are looking at the valley right now. mid to upper 90s and hundreds really across the board for us here in the valley right now. up north, i know a lot of people went up there to try to escape the heat or maybe go camping for a get-away. temps looking very nice up there. if you 70?. the rim, country right now is really nice up there. perfect temperature. in fact, you probably need a jacket, especially as we get into the evening hours. kingman, 85? for you. prescott at 78?, and if you're at bullhead city or lake havasu, maybe doing some boating, you're at 99?, probably about the same temperature right now for bullhead city, although we're not getting a return from them. 99? for you in gila bend and 82 at payson right now. here's a look at our record right now. we did hit 101 degrees in

degrees below. 112 was our record high. that was set back in 1945. record low, 60? back in 1921, and the normal is 80? for this time of year. the rest of the country, we do have some active weather going on in the houston area. we could see in the gulf -- really, the gulf has seen a lot of action in the past couple of days, and there's still some going on there as well. some really heavy rain making its way on up through the panhandle area of texas, and you could see also as we move on toward florida, some very heavy active weather that is making its way on through and then moving off into the but it's been a really busy couple of weeks for them in that part of the country with those really, really heavy storms. for our forecast lows tonight, our evenings are really kind of cooling off. 72? for us here in phoenix. 53? for you in prescott. 41? in the grand canyon. show low is at 53, casa grande is at 68 and nogales will be at 61?. tomorrow, 99 in phoenix, kingman 89. yuma at 99?, paige 87, window

at 90?. globe is at 94?. here's a look at what we got going on for tonight. 72? for our overnight low. clear skies out there. tomorrow it's going to be really nice in the morning. 75? and then warming up throughout the day but not too bad. we expect to top out right around 99?. here's a look at your ten-day forecast. and this is where we got some nice things in store for you. nothing over 100 degrees on our ten-day forecast. we haven't had that for quite some time, and we've got a chance of showers returning to you on wednesday, thursday, a good chance, about 20%, those dew points are getting back up there so this will be monsoon type of activity, not a storm system coming in because we don't really have anything out there so that's all going to really depend on the dew points and see how that goes, but it looks like we could be in for it. >> the monsoon should be winding down. it sends september 30th. it has been such an interesting spotty year, you know, different areas of the valley would just get that deluge, that classic monsoon storm and other people woke up thinking what storm, so it was hit and miss.

organization is helping veterans not just this labor day weekend, but a local organization is helping veterans not just this labor day weekend but all year long by helping them furnish their homes. fox 10's courtney griffin has that story. >>reporter: for the last seven years, barbara has dedicated her time to helping veterans furnish their new home, all for free. >> the most veterans come in with nothing more than the clothes on their back. they need everything.

room table to sit down and eat a meal, to help them get a fresh start. >>reporter: it's a quick process to get started. >> we have a veteran come in with a new lease dated within the last 30 days, proof of military service, coming from homelessness, so it's usually through a referral through the v.a. >>reporter: and then the veterans fill out some forms and write down the items they need, and their furniture wishes are granted. >> there's no veteran should be going without. none. they sacrificed too much for our country. they should not have to go without now. >>reporter: the program, united for change, could not go on without helping from the public who donate their own furniture, but they are in need of more money to keep the warehouse open. >> the biggest need is money to be able to buy the things that we don't get in in donations. >>reporter: sesate says dropping off furniture to a veteran and helping make their house a home
