credit union. two people got out of the s.u.v. and detained by deputies and phoenix police. the driver got involved in this pursuit. at one point, investigators say evidence was tossed out of the s.u.v. and into an alley. he made contact with a family member where unmarked vehicles boxed him in and offices opened fire killing the suspect. multiple agency, f.b.i. are investigating and andrew hasbun has the latest from the scene. andrew? >> reporter: marc, at this point, it is not clear, or police are not telling us shortly after why they were able to stop the suspect. we don't know if the suspect had a weapon and that is why they opened fire. it is not clear and that is what police are piecing together right now. as soon as police started the

was over in a matter of seconds. >> reporter: the chase ended in a barrage of gunfire. police killing the man accused of leading them on a valley-wide chase. >> it took quick, like less than a minute and the whole scene was covered by cops. they were coming from all four corners and just stopped right there. >> reporter: the chase ended at the i-10 east onramp at baseline road but it began near litchfield and van buren in avondale. police responded to a robbery call there. when they arrived, the suspect was driving away. shots were fired at the responding officers. >> it is ridiculous what these people are doing. reporter: when the pursuit entered phoenix, phoenix p.d. took over. he appeared to stop at one home and talk to someone. two of the suspects bailed out of the s.u.v. and quickly picked

deputy but the driver did not give up. >> we know the suspect was on the phone with people during the chase and he could have been receiving updates from someone watching tv. >> reporter: when the suspects tried to get on i-10 that is when phoenix p.d. moved in. >> i went outside to see what is happening, it is c.i.a. it shook me a little bit. >> reporter: right now, baseline road is closed from 48th street east to the i-10. east is where the road opens back up from i-10 eastbound is also closed and will remain closed while police continue to investigate the case into the evening. reporting live in tempe, fox 10 news.

tequila on a 20-gallon propane tank in the home in san tan valley and tried to light it on fire. cruz's brother and father pushed him away and restrained him until police took him into custody. they say that he showed signs of being mentally unstable. a boater has disappeared the missing man's family is trying not to give up hope. the maricopa county sheriff's lake patrol searching for the manchin tan shah. they are using a robot and sonar technology to try to find the missing man. meanwhile, his family can only wait. >> chintan is a medical student. he graduated from st. louis

and will miss him. a barking dog saves a tucson family from a mobile home fire. they heard the dog barking and saw the carport was in flames. the fire damaged a car in the driveway. at one point, a propane gas tank exploded. the family is looking for a new place to stay. it is not clear what caused the fire. a weather alert in arizona. we are expected to be in for hey as hurricane newton reaches our state as a tropical storm. lucas toppling trees and knocking out power. it made landfall at the tip as a category one hurricane. some areas south of the border could get up to a foot of rain. arizona is bracing for weather

tropical storm. >> reporter: moisture is entering the state far ahead of newton before newton gets here. newton is a category one hurricane right now. by the time it gets here, it will be a tropical storm or low pressure system with winds anywhere from 20-40 miles an hour. it is going to bring moisture along with it. you can see moisture coming in to the southeastern and the so that is the track that newton is going to take. it is going to take a little bit to get him up but that moisture is in place with 75 miles an hour winds right now. we open the door and take a look at newton on the move and put it into motion. it stays a category one for quite a while. tuesday at 11:00 p.m., 75-mile

hour and newton is south of phoenix at that time. look at the moisture and how quickly it comes through. most of the moisture finding its way through the southern part of the state and the eastern portion of the state. there we are wednesday at 11:00 p.m. with winds at 25 miles an hour. of course, with all of that, we do have watches out there for flooding both across the central portion of the state and the southern portion of the state as well. we do have a will give us more of a precise look at that moisture coming up. i'll give you a look at that coming up. we have a traffic alert. one of the busiest roads in surprise will be closed overnight wednesday. we're talking about grand avenue between litchfield road and dysart road. you want to be aware of that. the closure starts wednesday at 9:00 and will reopen thursday morning at 5:00 a.m. the closure is to work on the

it will make things nicer once it is done. in the meantime, you may want to avoid that section of grand avenue. with the fate of arizona's republican primary and the fifth congressional race still in the air, christine jones files a lawsuit today. the unofficial ballot count shows andy biggs in the lead with nine votes. in her complaint, jones alleges that 300 votes have not been counted for various reasons, including signatures o ballots incorrectly rejected. jones wants processing of unofficial results to be halted until possible errors are corrected. in the race for the white house, donald trump and hillary clinton campaigning in key battleground states. joel waldman has more from washington. >> reporter: it is the fourth quarter of the election cycle and it appearance the race is tightening with donald trump

11-year-old boy nearly 27 years ago. the 53-year-old confessed to abducting jacob on october 22, 1989. d.n.a. evidence also linked him to the sexual assault of a 12-year-old boy, which happened nine months before jacob's disappearance. the statute of limit takes -- limitations passed to charge in that case but he was charged with child pornography. >> to us, jacob was alive until we found him. we need to help. i want to say jacob, i'm so sorry. it is incredibly painful to know his last days, last hour, last minutes. >> again, he led police to the remains. under a plea deal, he will spend 20 years behind bars but will not face state murder charges.

for us. we're going to see rain. i think most of it will be south and east of us as the system takes a little bit of a turn. we have rain in the forecast and could see rain out of that. 98 degrees right now. the winds out of the northwest at 10 miles an hour. it is also 98 degrees in mesa. 94 at cave creek. surprise, 95 degrees right now. get a look at it. you can see the moisture being pushed ahead of newton and you can see taking by the way the moisture is coming in and the track it is coming in. 75 miles an hour winds and a category one. here it is coming into arizona wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with 40 miles an hour winds south of phoenix. you can see pretty good moisture. you see some south of us and it is moving rapidly.

here rapidly with that. these are areas of flash-flood watches so take a lot of counties are taken up in that as well. 101 degrees for the high today. we had 99 degrees in buckeye. 99 in glendale. scottsdale, it was 98 degrees on the day today. 73 in flagstaff. 86 in sedona. we had 90 at kingman. 100 at yuma this is your day. 101 on the high. normally we see 103 there. 73 on the low, normally we see 80 there. this is what we're forecasting. 90 degrees for tomorrow. you see a lot of 90's around that 90-degree temperature. nice-looking temperatures as far as the mountains are concerned.
