now at 9:00, we're tracking hurricane newton as it heads towards arizona as a tropical storm. when it is expected to hit us and how much rain we could be seeing. a high-speed chase through the valley ends one of the suspects shot and she is accused of running an unlicensed dental office out of her phoenix apartment and now police say she is on the run. plus, the new dog park that caters only to the dogs of the rich and famous. it is later in the buzz. first on fox, a major blow to thousands of students across the country. i.t.t. technical institute has

this coming. >> it was one of the largest for profit campuses and four of the campuses was here in arizona. >> reporter: take a look at this sign. it says i.t.t. technical institute will be closed for the labor day holiday. these doors will not be reopening leaving loots -- lots of students concerned about their educational >> the doors are locked. >> reporter: the student who didn't want us to identify him came to the campus today to try to get answers. >> i got an e-mail there is some type of situation going on. reporter: the e-mail stating that the college that has 130 campuses across the nation was banned by the u.s. department of education from enrolling students who use final aid. i.t.t. was making most of its money from that aid. the school says it will not offer its september quarter and

round of hurricane newton. this is a storm that keeps on giving. the storm first hit the country's baja peninsula bringing heavy rain. you're looking at the aftermath and minor damage to the resort-town region. the hurricane blamed for at least three deaths. the storm is moving north and will make a second landfall in mexico. >> dave munsey is tracking the storm for us and it could bring rain and flooding to arizona. >> r possibility. we're going to get a lot of rain, not necessarily a lot of rain in phoenix. most of the rain is going to be south of us. if you notice something about the way this is entering the state, it is more to the south and to the east. we were expecting it to come straight up but it is taking a bend at the present time. 75 miles an hour so it is still a category one. as you can see, the path it is going to take, it takes the

that point. we will track it here as we get another look at that 75 miles an hour spin it has. by the time it gets in here wednesday, it will be into the state by wednesday. you can see it is south of phoenix but it will only have 35 miles an hour winds. this is thursday at 5:00. as we put that into progress that zooms through here. that system whips through here rapidly and it ison it works its way through. also, we have flood watches from the central portion of the state southward and through the east as well. we'll have more on this storm and a look around the country coming up. >> southern arizona is expected to get the brunt of the storm. people in tucson are lining up to get sandbags to prevent flooding. the national weather service

strength to hit arizona. reminisces from hurricane newton could be the sixth storm. >> just a reminder, especially in the next 24-48 hour, you will want this. check out the forecast and referee weather alerts. i have this on my phone and it is great. it is free. you can find more information on our website, fox10phoenix.com. a wild police chase unfolding in the valley this a suspect eluding officers for nearly 45 minutes after a robbery at a west valley bank. the suspect pulled into the alley, threw something into the backyard of the home before taking off again. the chase came to an end right here when the officers spun the vehicle and jumped out with their guns drawn and opened fire on the suspect. yeah, the bank robber was later pronounced dead at the scene. two other people in custody and

detectives are still trying to piece together at this hour. >> we are learning new information behind the wheel in this speeding s.u.v. andrew has more on this tonight. >> reporter: marc, this started with the bank robbery in avondale and ended on the i-10 eastbound. when officers stop this fleeing s.u.v., undercover officers opened fire within seconds. police on the scene well into the investigators combing over the area where the chase ended in a barrage of gunfire. police stopped the fleeing s.u.v. opening fire killing the man who led them on a val-wide chase. >> they were coming from all four corners. >> reporter: the chase ended at the i-10 eastbound onramp at baseline road but it began near

the suspect was driving away when police arrived. during the chase, shots were fired at responding officers. >> it is ridiculous what police are doing. >> reporter: when the chase entered phoenix, phoenix p.d. took over. he threw something out the window. we saw police going through the evidence, which included piles of cash. >> he made a mistake and the consequences was losing his life. >> reporter: two of the suspects bailed from the s.u.v. and quickly picked up near 67th avenue and thomas. the driver did not give up. >> he was going through an ordeal of his own. i tried to speak to him and help him and lead him in the right direction but i don't think he was too much for it because i think some men do change and

tried to get on the i-10 from baseline road that is when undercover teams moved in. >> it was like, it kept going off and it shook me a little bit. >> reporter: as you can see, police are still out here on the scene. f.b.i., avondale p.d. and phoenix p.d. are all investigating. they have baseline road closed to east of the i-10 onramps and offramps are also closed at this hour. police are not saying exactly what led their officers to open fire so quickly. reporting live in tempe, i'm andrew hasbun, fox 10 news. 18-year-old man arrested until san tan valley on attempted murder and arson charges. authorities say luther cruz tried to burn down his house with his three family members

from lighting a propane tank on fire until sheriff deputies could arrive and save the day. a woman accused of posing as a dentist and treating patients without a license is a fugitive of the law after she failed to show up for the pretrial conference. authorities believe this woman may have fled the country, possibly to mexico that is where she is from. she was running a dental practice out of near mcdowell. she was charged with fraudulent scheme and operating without a license. a navajo code talker has died at the age of 95. he was a code talker in the first marine division of world war ii. he trained at the code talker school and was the recipient of the silver medal for his

the battle between arizona senator jeff flake and donald trump continues. over the weekend, flake said he would not vote for trump and trump took to twitter calling flake a weak and ineffective senator. today, flake is firing back in a statement he said hillary clinton think she is can win arizona because donald trump is unwilling to propose serious solutions to the problems facing our state. trum women, mock the disabled, impugn the character of p.o.w.'s and go after the gold star parents of a fallen u.s. soldier. flake went on to say, i'm not ok with that and i'm going to keep speaking out until he changes the tone of his campaign. with a little over two months to go before the election, there is no rest for the presidential candidates. this is go time. both donald trump and hillary clinton hitting the key battleground states today. trump held events in north

>> reporter: hi, everybody. the winds have picked up a little bit out of the west at 17. it is 93 degrees outside right now. 92 in deer valley.

97 in glendale. as we get a look at it here, you can see the moisture coming up. a lot of it going into new mexico. some of it taking a shot at the valley as we see it roll in. this is, of course, newton, which is a class one hurricane at 75 miles an hour. you can see newton stopping right here that is going to be about 11:00 in the morning tomorrow. we will see newton work its way into the state. look at the purring up in the front and you can see the moisture heads off to the east. a little bit shoots up to the valley but a lot of it is taking off to the east and staying in the southern portion of the state as well as it hangs around for a day or so. let's look at the futurecast and see what is happening. here is phoenix right here. we put it into mtion and you see here about 6:45 in the morning, you can see that moisture being pushed up in

a lot of that moisture comes around and hangs in the area but most of it heads off to the east or stays south of us. you look at the rest of the futurecast here and you can see not a lot of moisture finding its way in here. in fact, they have taken this area out of the watch area at the present time with the flash-flood watches. we're seeing a lot of this stuff staying south or going off to the east. we had 101 degrees for the hh today. one thing the moisture is doing and the cloud cover, bringing the temps down a little bit. 99 at goodyear. 97 at deer valley. 99 at gateway on the day today. we had 73 degrees at flagstaff. 82 at prescott. 79 at show low. 102 at gila bend. this is your day. 101 on the high. 78 on the low. you can see the normal highs are higher than what we hit and

111 is the record high for the day. 63, record low for the day. we are forecasting 90 degrees but we see temperatures that get close to the mid 90's. we see 80's out there throughout the valley. it is going to be a mix bag tomorrow. heading to the mountains, low 70's showing up. looking across the country, a little bit of action up in the northwest heading to montana. bi heading through minneapolis. you can see the panhandle of texas gets hit. this is a low pressure system and there are no more advisories being given on the former hurricane, former tropical storm and now low. you can see the temperatures were affected a little bit up in that area of the northeast. 86 overnight.

county sheriff's office. steve krafft, fox 10 news. firefighters rescue an injured hiker from camelback mountain. the man was about two-thirds up the way of the choya trail. he was flown off of the trail and taken to the hospital in stable condition. in tucson, a barking dog alerts a sleeping family to a fire in their home. a woman opened the door to see the carport engulfed in flames. she woke up three of her family members. they got out safely. the flames caused extensive damage to the home and a propane gas tank exploded during the fire. the red cross is helping the family find a new place to live. the cause is under investigation. a former scottsdale yoga teacher accused of having sexual relations with boys less than

her trial. police say march 21,2015, she was at a bar mitzvah at her boss's house. her boss paid for her breast inaugmentation. she flashed her breasts twice. after many of the guests left, she allegedly let some of the boys at the bar mitzvah touch her breasts and fondle a grand jury did not indict her but now this trial is taking place in scottsdale city court. she is facing 18 charges, including public sexual indecency. closing arguments in the case expected to happen tomorrow. it was a cold case mystery that haunted minnesota for 30 years. >> i was living in minnesota when it took place.

remained so. finally, last week, his remains were found. >> a man who previously denied any involvement in the case admitted to abducting and killing the young boy. >> i would love to talk to you all but i'm just not ready yet. for us, jacob was alive until we found him. we need to heal. >> reporter: after 27 years, jacob's parents know the truth about what son. in a minnesota classroom, a 53-year-old admitted to sexually assaulting and shooting the boy. he was kidnapped while riding bikes with a friend. he confronted them with a gun, after asking their ages, he asked the other two boys to run away. jacob asked what he did wrong. >> the unthinkable admissions that we heard in court should make all of us angry.

and there is no good answer. the crimes should increase our collective resolve to protect our youth and bring predators to justice. >> reporter: last october, he was named a person of interest to the case and last week, he brought authorities to where he buried jacob's body. they are not pursuing charges in child porn charges and faces 20 years in prison. >> i want to say jacob, i am so sorry. it is pain to feel know his last days, last minute, last hours. >> his mother became a national advocate for missing children. a federal law was named for jacob. it required states to establish sex offender registries.

his punishment. today, he registered as a sex offender in ohio where he is living with his parents. turner was convicted in march for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman at a frat party last year. he was sentenced to only six months in jail and only served three months of it. >> i can't let it interfere with my life or my daughter's life. we have to be cautious of what lives. >> jacob's law is why turner will have to register with local authorities after 90 days. he will be registered as a sex offender for the rest of his life. he plans to appeal his conviction. a judge wants bill cosby's sexual assault case to go to
