alert and this is just a tragic scene playing out tonight. a woman is shot in her car while driving on the state route 51 northbound. the northbound lanes now have been shut down near mcdowell. >> that closure is causing a massive traffic backup as police investigate there along with d.p.s. we're told they are looking for the shooter who they say is driving a white work truck with latarax on the truck. >> ty, we're hearing this woman's condition is extremely grave and she may not make it? >> reporter: yeah, that is what we're hearing, kari. that woman fighting for her life in a valley hospital as she is shot on the 51 northbound. this is taking place behind me. we're told it is happening near the 51 and mcdowell exit. i want to show you what sky fox

the head, again, she was taken to the hospital. she is listed in extremely critical condition. there is also another woman taken to the hospital in stable condition from the subsequent crash after the shooting happened. police right now are scouring this area. we saw the chopper up here earlier with the white light looking for the truck. they want to talk to in connection of the shooting.& we were told by police that two other collisions occurred on the 51 because of the crash. traffic is backed up for miles in the northbound lanes here at the 51. if you can avoid the area, friends, family and trying to go northbound are best to avoid this area. we're waiting for more

informational officer from the phoenix police department. no word when the 51 may reopen. we're waiting any second to get more information. as soon as we do, we'll break in and bring that to you. reporting live in phoenix, ty brennan, fox 10 news. >> we will check back in with you tonight. let's break down where this is happening. this is the 51 here and as we zoom in closer, you see the 51 and mcdowell road. mcdowell i shooting happening right here and the traffic backup is intense on the northbound lanes of the 51. i passed this area tonight. i was in the southbound lanes. i have never seen so many emergency vehicles, police, and so many stranded drivers on a section of the road. people were getting out of their cars, standing on the freeway waiting. they are stuck on the freeway and this investigation is going to go on for hours. the shooting happening in the

mcdowell and the area is closed indefinitely. the ramps on to the 51 from the i-10 to loop 202 those are closed as well. >> so many people stuck in this in the evening rush hour. take a look at this video from sky fox. you can see all of the folks and they are turning them around and heading them in the wrong direction to get them off of the freeway. they couldn't get passed spot where d.p.s. and phoenix police are investigating the shooting. the trooper is there trying to help those folks get to the exit off of the road and turning around and getting them clear from the area. we saw live pictures of a huge amount of people that are still stuck there. they have been there for a few hours. ty brennan is out there. we're waiting an update from police on the scene. we'll let you know when that is available. a sheriff's office

being stabbed several times by inmates. the lieutenant was attacked by three inmates at the pinal county jail. the lieutenant was airlifted to the hospital. we're told his condition has stabilize. it is not clear what led to the attack or what additional charges the inmates will be facing. the briefcase full of bring stolen from drake's tour bus has been found and the man who is accused of found. >> drake performing here in the valley and millions of dollars in jewels stolen from a tour bus. this briefcase contained $3 million worth of jewelry and it was taken while drake was performing in downtown phoenix. >> marcy jones is live from fourth avenue jail to explain how investigators tracked down

hours after this crime was committed, a suspect sits behind bars in the fourth avenue jail. before you call it a clear-cut case, officers say it is more complicated than you might think. through working with performers, the talking stick arena and surveillance, phoenix police say they were able to track down the 21-year-old suspected of robbing drake's tour bus last night in downtown phoenix. >> the suspect was able to walk remove a briefcase that contained $3 million worth of property and jewelry and leave. >> reporter: they were able to get a look at the suspect from surveillance video but he was being booked by another department. >> he was trespassing on tempe's main campus. he was arrested and in the process of being transferred and booked into maricopa county jail. >> reporter: king could have

the getaway driver was killed when they say he pointed a weapon at them when they tried to arrest him at baseline road when the chase came to an end. these two other men and del rio were accused of robbing the bank. tonight. facing serious charges sergio escobedo and ruben rodriguez when the chase started. court paperwork shows that escobedo was firing at officers during the chase. earlier today, a judge handed down his bail amount. escobedo told the court he would have a tough time getting that much cash and he wanted to get out and see his dying mother. >> honestly, i'm struggling to get the money for my mom for her chemotherapy and she is on stage

won't see her again. >> a judge wasn't showing sympathy for that guy. he ordered escobedo and his accomplice on $25 million bond. >> ruben rodriguez, court paperwork shows he bailed from the getaway car during this and tried to break into a home to try to escape and hide out but that is when he came face-to-face with a homeowner who pointed a gun at her. but by then officers were already surrounding the house. >> i ran to the police and said help me and the guy is in the backyard and he said it is ok, you're safe. >> thankfully, she was not hurt but shaken up by this whole thing. rodriguez told detectives he robbed the bank to "pay for a drug debt." pinal county will continue

under president obama's health care act. blue cross blue shield thought about pulling out of the county. more than 8,000 people in pinal county get health insurance through the exchanges. the company says rate will go up by 51% next year but much of the increase will be offset by subcy subsidies for residents. about recreational pot. according to a new arizona a.s.u. poll, half of arizonans are in favor of prop 205 while 39% are against it, 10% are not sure. there is confusion about what would pass. the man who ran arizona's medical marijuana program gave a free lecture to help clear up

story. we have new information coming in on the tragic shooting during hush your northbound on the 51. let's listen in right now. ty? >> reporter: yeah, kari, we're getting a sad update that the woman has passed away from her injuries after being shot in the northbound direction of the 51. i want to bring in sergeant jonathan howard from phoenix police. she was on the phone with out. >> 911 received calls about an aggressive driver. she believed the men were following her and it was went she was on the phone that the dispatcher heard the shots and the call was ended. >> reporter: you guys are scouring the city looking for a white work truck. what can you tell me about the truck? >> witnesses have described it as a work-style pickup truck with a tool box in the bed.

up, they can pick anything up. >> reporter: a miniature horse can be trained to do everything these service dogs can do and it will serve their owner for many years. >> miniature horses, their life expectancy is 35 years to over 40 years so that puts the service ability close to 40 years where a dog is eight to 12 years. >> reporter: president of the horse council says miniature horses can 170-pounds and will train for 18 months to become certified. >> all the way around. >> someone who has a balance problem, you can grab ahold of the horse and pull yourself up much better. you can grab a hold of the horse and hold on. they have a special harness for someone who has that type of a problem that they can hang on

police shoot and kill a man phoenix police shoot and kill a man after they say he charged at them with a large knife. >> yesterday, officers responded to his mother's home twice. she reported her son was threatening to her and after refusing to come out, he lunged at police with a hunting-style knife. they used stun bags and then they were forced to shoot ankiel the -- and kill the man. >> you can see his hands above his head and turned and eight or nine officers in a horseshoe in front of the door as they were going in opened fire on this kid. >> i know he had the blade in his hand.
