coverage. >> today is the home opener at the university of phoenix stadium as the cardinals get set to take on the patriots. let's get to jude lacava for a preview. >> the season of high expectations starts right now what was the title of the cardinal's series all or nothing is what many believe the theme for this season. it all starts tonight in glendale and a huge part of this season success will depend on the performance of one carson palmer. no question about that. what he is able to an mvp-like season last year. he was fabulous at times. he has got every skilled position player returning. what does that mean? big plays, explosive plays like you see here to larry fitzgerald. think about number 31 david johnson, palmer was fabulous last year. can he do it again? can they duplicate it again? so many different weapons to go to. john brown, man, he make plays and open up that field with his speed downfield.

defense, the addition of chandler jones and big throws to the likes of michael floyd, so many options, so much high expectation. carson palmer realizes this group is as good as it gets for the arizona cardinals in a long, long time. >> people are right. we are pretty good. now we got to go out and play it and prove it and back that up. to be on the team that you know has a shot and the putting a circle around you on their schedule and a bullseye on you, everybody in our division is because we won it last year. it's a good thing. we were a focused group. a majority of the guys on team have been here for awhile so they understand the way things work as far as the way we prepare and the way we practice. we got a lot of veterans and a lot of guys that have been around. we got a lot of young talent.

soole -- a solemn day of remembrance. >> marking 15 years sin the september 11th attacks and the cardinals have a tie to the terror attacks that claimed so many lives. this was an event that inspired pat tillman to join the armed forces, of course it was a huge story when he did, to give up a career in the nfl to join the force. >> we remember the attention locally and nationally he got when he said i am walking away from the million dollar contract to go serve my he didn't just join the armed forces. he went for the army ranger. he went for that top notch incredible level. >> elite forces. >> that's right. and then you and i -- we worked together a long time and we all remember the day when we got the word that he had been killed in afghanistan. it was a blow to the community, to the country. >> that was one of those days i think similar to 9-11 we all kind of remember where we were when you heard that news. we are in a morning meeting when

and then the tributes started pouring in. >> the sculpture at university of phoenix stadium. >> and asu there is one there as well. again, out at university of phoenix stadium right there when you get there a tribute to pat tillman, number 41. danielle miller is live out there tonight with how the fans are. >> hundreds of people here excited at the tailgate ready to kick off this new cardinal season. one thing that you could not help but recognize is just how many people were out here wearing their pat tillman jersey and some of those people we spoke t to think of pat especially on a day like today. >> it's the season opener for the arizona cardinals, and fans are pumped. the tailgate packed with people grilling and getting ready for the big game against the patriots, one true patriot being remembered is pat tillman. many cards fans stopping by his statue to take a picture and reflect on his sacrifice.

>> yeah, it is hard to believe it's been 15 years now since the two planes hit the twin towers in new york and also the pentagon was attacked several events were held this morning. >> this morning the city of apache junction commemorating those who lost their lives in the attacks on 9-11. the veterans groups in apache junction in pinal county organized a wreath laying ceremony. >> and in goodyear, people paid their respects during a memorial service and traditional flag raising ceremony. these pictures show the flag suspended from a ladder truck and the presentation of colors ceremony. after that memorial, fire and police also invited the community to come together for a pancake breakfast. >> and a 9-11 memorial in place in surprise. the words "we will never forget" are engraved on top of the sculpture that sits outside of the public saturday auditorium

twisted steel from the world trade center. >> james lee connor. jonathan m. connors. >> at the tempe healing feel, the names of those who lost their lives in the attack were read out loud this morning starting at 7:00 a.m. at tempe beach park. a firefighter here says he appreciates the symbolism displayed in the memorial. >> i think this field is very important. i think it's a very dangable you could put your hands on the flags. there are flag biographies are on every flag. they go around the entire field protecting those within. >> there are also powder blue ribbons on flags that represent the flight attendants who died. military boots represent our men and women in the armed forces who died that day. and teddy bears by flags represent the children who died on that tragic day 15 years ago. >> even though new york is on

affects have been fell all over the world. right here in the valley we have an incredible display. >> it's day that most people will hardly ever forget. those who were around -- it's hard to believe freshmen in high school weren't alive on 9-11. so there -- >> we will know it as a history lesson. when i heard that, it blew my mind. >> there is always again great to remember the victims and the heros and families who are affected by this horrific tragedy and marcy jones has one >> if you ask anyone chances are they remember exactly what they were doing the morning of september 11th, 2001. especially if they were a new york city first responder. >> william hennessy at the time a lieutenant for the new york city fire department says he was off duty that day. but as soon as he saw what was happening like so many, he jumped into action. >> we grabbed all of our gear, our helmets and bunker coats, rope, gasoline, medical supplies

york city transit bus that happened to be running right by our firehouse and we asked the bus driver if he wouldn't mind taking us down there and so he helped us load up our gear. >> even though they were some of the closest in devastation, at first it was hard to comprehend what was going on. >> you can call me naive. i thought it was an accident. i just -- i didn't believe anybody would do something that evil. i assumed it was an accident and i assumed probably like every other firefighter in that we were going to go in and rescue everyone from the building and put the fire out. >> will quickly learned this wasn't just another day it was a terror attack that would be the end to almost 3,000 lives. lives now honored at memorials around the country. there are images of that day he will never forget. like the office workers covered in dust and blood. or the look on his captain's face. >> i just remember seeing him and his face was pancaked with

i-10 early this morning and saw a man and a woman standing in the median. the people inside the car say the man had a gun and as they drove by their windshield was shot out. luckily nobody was hurt. police were able to find that man nearby. they are still looking for the woman that was seen with him. house party filled with teenagers near 83 avenue and lower buckeye road is now the center of a shooting investigation. >> courtney griffin spoke with one teenager who says he went home right before that shooting >> several young adults were at a house party when suddenly gunshots started going off. >> these kids are young. probably like 16 or 17, like around my age. >> the 19-year-old allen peres was at a birthday party when he decided to go home around 1:00 a.m. his home is just down the street. >> i came outside and i guess i seen two girls fighting. so i just decided i will go home. and out of nowhere i get home and out of nowhere shots going

fired. >> once the shots -- once they stopped i came outside and all you can see is all of these kids running. >> his mom woke up to the gunfire and kids yelling. >> i see a lot of cars driving. i don't know what's wrong. >> police say a black mercedes sedan and a tan suv drove by the party and began firing shots. police say people at the party fired back. officers detained one shooter the party. >> here for 16 years. and it's quiet. there is a nice place. it's just scared. >> to teens ash male and female pressuring injured in the -- teens, male and female, are expected to be okay. >> and police are still looking for the black mercedes as well as the people who were inside it. you know something about this case, you asked to call phoenix

right now. as you can see from our satellite and radar, we are taking a look at the west coast here and the desert southwest. we don't have too much going on out here as far as moisture goes. there was some earlier in the state that has been clearing off. we have a low pressure system off the coast of california. that's going to be bringing in a chances of moisture for tomorrow. we are seeing the chances drop from about 20% to now 10% for monday. so we are talking about isolated storms and thunderstorms and some showers as well. higher terrain areas to the south and to the east of phoenix. so we are not quite expecting it will get into the valley but again always a chance of isolated showers when we see that moisture moving on in. and as you can see the dew point temps are not too high and not going to be bringing in anything for us right now today as far as any chance of moisture or pop-up showers, but that could be a different story tomorrow and also in through tuesday as we get that low pressure bringing that moisture in from the california area. right now our temps you can see

across the board here we have 102 at sky harbor and at glendale. 100 in deer valley and 99 in cave creek. for the rest of the state, pretty warm up north. 92 for kingman. 74 flagstaff. nice place to be right now. and 78 in the grand canyon. and winslow is at 88 degrees. down south, 102 in gila bend and 97 in tucson right now. for the night, here is what we got going on. we have 105 degrees and three degrees below normal and record was in 1990 at 11 we aren't too far off where we should be. for the rest of the country, not much going on out here, but there is a lot of activity going on in the gulf states. a lot of moisture moving through areas. alabama, mississippi, georgia. they are getting hit hard by this storm system that is coming in from the gulf and bringing a lot of rain through there as you can see from sunday's returns. here is what we have going on for tonight for our forecast. low will be a pleasant night. 60s and 70s predominantly but get up north and see 45 in the grand canyon.
