brings them to dr. oz. thank you for joining us at 10:00. this was a terrible accident in surprise that ended up taking a woman's life today, and tonight we are finding out this actually was no accident. the act of a young man who was trying to take his own life instead takes that of an innocent driver. fox 10's danielle miller is live tonight with more details on what we are learning. danielle? >> yeah, marc. police say that man who caused this accident is now here at the fourth avenue jail being charged with several things out here. he is 19-year-old keith johnson, and this accident happened in the intersection of litchfield road and peoria avenue around 8:00 this morning. police telling us that eight cars total were involved, and all four drivers of those vehicles were transported to valley hospitals for various injuries this morning.

19-year-old keith johnson was the man who caused this accident. he was actually trying to kill himself, and that's the reason why he rammed into several of these vehicles. he himself did survive, but unfortunately one woman did die from her injuries. that woman, we are being told, is 46-year-old margie mellows. we spoke with some of her neighbors tonight, and they tell us that margie was a wonderful woman. she had two she was actually just recently went through a divorce. she was a advocate for child cancer and research. they tell us she was a sweet woman and always had a smile on her face. >> we would just chitchat, normal neighborly stuff, and i'm just really shocked at what happened. >> yeah. >> just really sad. >> she was a sweet lady. she, you know, my son would always want to go there and play, and she would always

when they were moving, she was just very generous and, you know, always willing to help. it just makes me so upset that people -- it's one thing to want to take your own life, but to just be so negligent of other peoples, you know, and it's not just her -- her life is gone, but so many people are going to be affected, and her poor kids, they have had a really rough year. just a lot of, you know, family changes and then they just moved and things like that, and then for this to happens at the hands of someone that didn't care. >> and marc, once again here is the man police say caused this accident. 19-year-old keith johnson. they say he intentionally caused it while he was trying to take his own life. now, after being treated himself for his injuries, he was taken here to the fourth avenue jail. he is being charged now with one count of second degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault. reporting live, danielle miller, fox 10 news. danielle, thank you.

last of three officers injured when a car plowed into them outside of a convenience store has now been released from the hospital. it's a rookie officer. it was his first day on the job. he suffered a concussion, and he returned home this evening to recover from this. another officer who suffered a broken leg was released earlier, and a third officer only suffered minor injuries. he was able to get out of the way. police say the three officers were taking a break when 44-year-old marc laquon payne tried to run them over. payne is now being bond on attempted first-degree murder charges. an update now on the valley freeway shootings case. leslie merritt, jr. who was the former prime suspect in the shootings is suing the state and county officials. merritt's suit claims false arrest and false imprisonment. he spent 222 days behind bars for this case before it was dismissed. merritt's attorneys argue the state's own experts said there was no link between merritt's

is no evidence whatsoever to suggest that leslie merritt, jr. was the i-10 shooter, that he ever has been or that he ever will be. phoenix is absolutely no safer than it was at the time of merritt's arrest. >> the lawsuit does not contain a demand for a specific amount of money, but again, the amount that we had heard before was possibly up to $10 million. the county says it is aware of the lawsuit but has not decided whether it will handle the suit itself or will hire an outside agency. i'm just incredibly happy it's over. thank god. >> a scottsdale yoga teacher found not guilty of flashing teenage boys at a bar mitzvah. 33-year-old lindsey radomski was arrested last year. she was accused of getting drunk and then letting boys touch her breasts.

rendered its verdict. radomski sobbed quietly and hugged her attorneys after the verdicts were read, clearing her of all ten charges of decent exposure and sexual misconduct. >> her image was tarnished, based on how the charges came out. >> some of the charges allegedly stemmed from flashing her breasts to adults and boys at the party. other charges she allegedly was sleeping in one of the boy's rooms. radomski's attorney says she will return to teaching yoga. congress is moving ahead on a bill that is aimed at making it easier for the department of veterans affairs to fire its employees. g.o.p. lawmakers have been urging the va to fire more workers to begin to improve the scandal that started at the va

asked to call the surprise police department. well, neighbors are upset about a new house for felons in their north phoenix community. despite the department of corrections word there would be no sex offenders, people are still upset about this, and they gathered tonight to talk about any criminals that may be living in their neighborhood. marcy jones attended that meeting and has the story for us. >> i would say tense but very productive were the words that i would use to describe this meeting. a lot of parents and concerned community leaders coming together. there was actually a note greetinghe please leave your pitch forks at the door. they say that's what this was all about, not a witch hunt but coming together to find solutions for safety in this community. their number one solution that they have that they want to implement very, very soon is getting the maricopa reentry center back to being a locked facility. many in the community expressed that they do believe in a reentry program that this is not the appropriate area for a facility of that kind.

accommodate about a hundred offenders, growing to 200 as the facility expands. the d.o.c. announced last week that the facility will no longer accept any sex offenders, but it does include offenders convicted of burglary, assault, and manslaughter. parents don't believe this is the best area for it. >> our main goal is to have it moved. i know that there are probably more appropriate places for it to be. not to have it so close to a community wher t school less than a mile away. i definitely feel like it's something that is probably a good step forward in trying to move these offenders into the community, but it's really not a necessarily appropriate place for it. >> our representatives address the lack of transportation, because these people need resources. they need food, soup kitchens, homeless shelters,

fox 10 news is back. a new survey shows the republican hold on mormon voters has slipped significantly with donald trump as the party's presidential nominee. the pew research center found 48% of registered mormon voters say they are republicans. that is down though from 61% just four years ago. the majority of the former republican mormons now consider themselves to be independent. donald trump and hillary

live from fox studios, fox 10 news is back. well, south carolina gets another good soaking today less than two weeks after hermine blew through the state. tropical storm julia could mean four to eight inches of rain right along the south carolina coast through friday as it moves slowly northeast, and drivers are warned to be aware of flash flooding and not to try to drive through those flooded roads. your elu forecast with dave munsey on fox 10 news. dave you were saying that julia is going to stick around and cause some problems. >> kind of singulcircle around ocean and stick around for three days, maybe as long as five days. there is already some flooding but this situation is going to get worse as the week wears on. it's 85 degrees here right now,
