three women run into difficulty on camelback mountain today. they are safe. a helicopter rescue crew plucked the hikers from the cholla trail in steep and difficult terrain. danielle miller has the story tonight. >> luckily there were no injuries during this mountain rescue. we have so many of these stories every year. we cover them and they have such different endings than this one did. this one ended positively and firefighters tell us this now take a look here. we have skyfox video of this rescue. fire crews are telling us that three women in their 40s, they were from out of town and they had been hiking since around 9:15 this morning. they were lost right around noon today. they say that the women became lost after coming over the top of camelback from the echo canyon trail. when they got into the cholla side, that's when they became lost. they tell us that women were about 200 to 300 feet off the

to find them on that trail. they actually used a cell phone ping to locate the women and once they did they did discover that terrain was very slippery and very dangerous for the women and for the fire crews. this is when they decided to air lift the women off the mountain. >> initially we took one person off on the screamer suit and we came and dropped her off at the landing zone and then went back and took the other two hikers as we burned off fuel and made room for the weight if -- and they were both on that second round of mountain. >> once again luckily nobody was hurt during this mountain rescue and fire crews want to remind people even though the weather is cooling down, a lot of people are going to be heading up to the mountain. you still need to be just as prepared as if we are having triple digit temperatures. have plenty of water and take those same precautions and remind people that even if you are hiking at night, it's definitely never a good idea to hike at night. they are telling us that they are receiving several calls of

these women became lost in the broad daylight if you can get lost in the day you can definitely lost at night. danielle miller, "fox 10 news." people may be spending more time outdoors. the weather is really nice. it's cooling down and the national weather service says the low temperature this morning was 70 degrees. the coolest since may 31. dave munsey up live now with the forecast. well, and as we look at these numbers here, great ok and you can see here, look at flagstaff at 31 degrees. we had 57 in designa. 50 down in nogales. 63 in casa grande. so good looking temperatures all the way around. and this is what we are forecasting. a lot of 60s in fact some upper 60s but a lot of low and mid-60s in that forecast as well. so it's a nice looking temps at night and nice way to get things going and tomorrow morning this is what we are forecasting.

four degrees. forecasting 35, 34 at the grand canyon. 69 in gila bend and 64 in casa grande. so some good looking temperatures. one of the thing we wanted to point out and that's next thursday. this coming thursday first day of fall. fall will start at 10:21 a.m. so we are looking forward to some nice temperatures. however, as we head into the weekend, things are warming up. i will have that for you coming up. teenager busted at a southern arizona port of entry and tried to smuggle three pounds of meth according to authorities hidden inside an xbox. customs officials say a canine detected the drugs inside the gaming console at the morally pedestrian crossing. they turned over the 16-year-old boy to i.c.e. they say he is from nogales, mexico and tried to bring the meth into arizona. some tense homes early this morning after a wrong way driver

way. the driver narrowly missed other drivers who were calling 911 reporting it. the driver was heading westbound in the eastbound lanes for nearly eight miles.& dps identified the man as 26-year-old fernando lopez martinez. dps says the driver and his passenger even managed to switch seats. >> now the corner of his eye he saw what he thought was the vehicle that made a urned turn on the freeway and then went eastbound in the eastbound lanes. >> the driver was taken into custody on suspicion of dui and could face additional charges of endangerment for putting the other drivers at rick. >> a massive fire on the us-60 closed down the freeway backing up traffic for miles. this fire began when a dump truck heading westbound crashed in the east bound lanes of the freeway near alma school. you can see right through the median wall there. the driver, the cars hit the dump truck causing it to catch

injuries. traffic narrowed down to one lane. it made the morning commute a crawl. fortunately no one killed. that's a miracle. arizona state senate president andy biggs has won the recount in district 5 for the congressional race. this isthet republican primary. bigdz pulling ahead with 27 votes. giving him a victory over challenger christine jones. it took almost two weeks. little over an hour ago jones conceded the race and spoke to fox 10's marcy jones christine jones came down here a little bit ago smiling but a little defeated. she said it took her so long to talk to us because she wanted to call andy biggs and offer her congratulations. here is what happened earlier in a courtroom. judge joshua rogers read the recount. the results being biggs at 25,244. and christine jones coming in at 25,217 votes. this time a difference of 27 votes. judge rogers had yet to rule on

overvote ballots. now those were originally excluded by county election officials because the machines picked up marks for more than one candidate. the argument from jones' camp is they should be examined to determine if the voters intent was obvious. now jones says her and her camp are laying down their swords and accepting a loss. >> i called andy biggs and congratulated him and offered my full support. we want a republican to be elected in this district. we feel fairly confident that will happen but we offered our support to him and congratulations on a hard fought race. >> jones says she is not ruling out running again for any type of position. right now she can't really wrap her head again on being another ballot. she says come november 8 she is voting republican all the way. in phoenix, marcy jones, "fox 10 news." in the race for the white house it was considered by many to be a thing of the past until now. the president barack obama birther issue resurfaced in the presidential race as donald

affordable housing options in palo alto. pricey palo alto. city leaders want to keep it that way and are threatening to use imminent domain to stop a long time owner from turning it into condos, high priced condos. >> the turf war over this low renmobile home park in the heart of silicon valley pits owner and his family who want to close it and build condos here against government officials who are doing everything they can to keep palo alto's housing right where it is. >> the city and the county's actions have postponed the closure of the park for four years now and still there is really no end in sight. >> that's because city and county officials have partnered with the local housing authority to acquire the property through remnant domain. >> remnant domain is actually an elegant solution. it acknowledges the owners right to just compensation if the

use his property for this public purpose. >> she argues the public purpose is the welfare of some 400 tenants who say they can't afford to move out. >> we have nowhere else to go. there is no way for 95% of us to be able to live in this county. let alone silicon valley. >> the lack of affordable housing isn't his fault and he should be able to redevelop his own property. but to close the park, the city says the family must pay tenant's moving costs and in pricey palo alto an appraisal calculated the costs at $8 million. his lawyer calls that extortion and doesn't buy the government's public good argument either. >> it's one thing to take property for a school or a road or a firehouse. here they are taking the private property for the benefit of other private individuals. that's flatly unconstitutional. >> he says if the government can use remnant domain here, then no property owner is safe.

we are forecasting. as we have these forecasts lows up here. yeah, look at that. 69 at sky harbor. the 70 this morning. lowest low temperature we've had since may 31. so they are coming down this ways we are forecasting for tomorrow. real close to 100. might step over the line at 99 degrees. there are some triple digits in that valley forecast. forecasting 85 in sedona. 78 at the grand canyon. 102 at gila bend. across the country big storms in look at them moving into st. louis. also down in the gulf states seeing some stormy weather as well. and julia, well, not gone, not forgotten, but certainly wondering if we will have another date. we will see here what happens. overnight we are looking at 69 degrees. 99 degrees for tomorrow with some sunshine here comes your weekend. at 99 on saturday. 104 on sunday. and you can see that fall starts on thursday.

surroundings and stuff like that. just being in a different place we will have to adjust and focus and play football. we supersize the football and check in on the big boys of the nfl. the cardinals looking for their first win of the season. week one not the great start the cardinals and fans were expecting. the patriots come to town and steal one to start the year. wow! the rookie williams had a rough day missing a signal on defense and led to an easy touchdown. carson palmer on the offense had palmer missing guys and getting sacked. in all not the cardinal football we are used to seeing. head coach bruce arians wants to make sure his guys get their minds right before this game. >> we failed a little bit last week is from friday afternoon to sunday night before the game mentally preparing more for our game. and we focusing on hopefully doing more mental preparation between now and game time. >> all right, don't feel like fighting traffic to get out
