d man. i'm just extremely grateful they were here giving them some encouragement- that's something that these kids are going to remember for a lifetime. did you see his big old feet? look. whoa. thank you for joining us for fox10 news at 5. a plane crashes directly into a gilbert home -- but fox 10 news at 5:00.
5:01 pm
a plane crashes directly into a gilbert home. miraculously, everyone involved makes it out alive. >> today fox 10's courtney griffin went back to the scene and spoke with neighbors who say the crash sounded like a bomb. >> this is what's left of a cessna 182 after it crashed into this gilbert home saturday night. >> you could hear the engine. that's how close to the ground it was. >> it went flat for a little bit, and then started nose diving. it was so close, we thought that it was going to come in our house. so when it came down, it made a big noise. i took the truck, and i tried to come over here. when i see this house, it's already on fire. >> reporter: the aircraft with four skydivers and a pilot inside was part of gilbert's annual constitution fair.
5:02 pm
skydivers already were out when the pilot realized he was having trouble and knew he was needing to get out. >> that was the last communication before impact. my understanding the pilot parachuted just before impact, and he landed approximately a half mile from probably to the east of us. >> reporter: the small aircraft was left unmanned and sent crashing into this home, where two people were inside watching tv. >> kind rear of the house, and then just kind of fell forward. so part of the plane is actually in the house, and part of it is in the backyard. >> hildebrand says the homeowners were able to run out of the home before it caught fire. >> they're doing good. obviously, they're shaken up, but they're doing very well. >> reporter: neighbors say the crash sounded like loud fireworks and say they felt the vibration when the plane hit the home. >> very scared and very lucky
5:03 pm
nighborhood. >> you can replace everything, but you can't replace a life. so thank god nobody got hurt. that's the main important thing. >> reporter: gilbert fire and police have been on scene throughout the day talking to neighbors and go through the home, as well as an ntsb investigator, who's going through the wreckage trying to figure out the exact cause of the plane crash. reporting in gilbert, courtney griffin, fox 10 news. >> and we've learned those skydivers were actually part of the arizona sky hawks. once again, to the ground safely. >> and today we're also hearing from the event organizer of the constitution week where those skydivers landed. fox 10's marcy jones is live out there where the organizers were busy cleaning up and talking about what happened last night. marcy? >> reporter: that's right, mark and linda. equipment still out here from last night. people still in shock from what transpired. they say they saw this flash of light go by, but they just didn't know what was happening, and they really couldn't have
5:04 pm
just such a blessing that nobody was killed. >> at that time, we didn't know what it was. we just saw a flame going across the sky. we did see the skydivers, and they did land, all of them. so we didn't really know at that point, what was going on. >> reporter: barbara stoll, the organizer of constitution week said, they landed at the civic center. at that only ones aware of trouble on their plane. shortly after 7:20, word began to spread. >> we did get feedback the plane had gone down. my husband came and found me. i was backstage. we had our emcee offer a moment of silence. everybody stood, and we did have a moment of silence. >> reporter: the plane crashed into a home with a couple watching tv in their living
5:05 pm
like many, barbara says she's grateful that only property was damaged and that there was no loss of life. >> i've of often thought about why this had to happen, and i don't know. i guess that's for everybody's own conclusions. but i believe in miracles, and this was one of them. >> reporter: absolutely. and barbara said she spoke to the skydivers earlier. they're all okay but still pretty shaken up imagine. the pilot still recovering from burns to his face and to his arms. the ntsb is actually launching a full investigation to find out exactly what happened. reporting live, marcy jones, fox 10 news. >> thanks, marcy. here's the other big news in the valley. it was out at university of phoenix stadium, where the arizona cardinals faced off against the buccaneers. what a game. >> such a great game to watch. let's get over to jude right now with a recap of today's action. jude? >> i'll tell you what, when you look at it, mark, one of the interesting parts of this game
5:06 pm
performance by larry fitzgerald. let's send it out to richard saenz at university of phoenix stadium, standing by with more from fitz. richard, what have you got for us? >> reporter: jude, that's what i'm talking about. the cardinals playing much better this weekend, the boys clicking on all cylinders. i'm not surprised. the cardinals always play better when they play on fox. as head coach bruce arians said all week long, the good teams don't lose two weeks in a row. both b.a. lot different this weekend. >> what did we have, four turnovers? five, i'm sorry. when you have a defense that can go out and create five turnovers, seven in two games, i know coach was upset we only had one in the preseason in four games. the guys have just been really opportunistic, and it was great to be on defenses flying around and getting the short fields and more positions. that's going to lead to wins. >> you and carson seem to be
5:07 pm
these days. is that over time you have a rapport going? >> when you have a quarterback as talented as carson and as accurate as carson, you just need to get on his page. i finally got on his page. that's really what it's been. he doesn't force the ball. he spreads it out to everybody, whoever's open, from darren to david to mike to smoke, jaron. he does a great job of evaluating and seeing what the defense is giving to us and finds the open man. everybody. >> are you thinking of kurt this year too? >> i hate doing the comparison thing, but in my opinion, both those guys are special players. the reason they've been able to play as long as they've been able to play and put the numbers they're able to put up is because they're special players. >> and how about that defense? you heard larry fitzgerald talk about the defense forcing turnovers, four turnovers, to be exact. and marcus cooper, the new defensive back, with two
5:08 pm
gm steve chyme does it again, picking up cooper from the chiefs, giving up just a seventh round pick. not a bad deal and not a bad day for the cardinals. i'm richard saenz for fox 10 sports. >> and a lot more to come from richard. stay with us for that. patrick peterson, very confident before the game and very confident early in the game on this play. jameis winston going deep, intended for mike evans. there's number 21 with the patrick peterson, as max starks said, ran a better route than evans. pointed up to the crowd and said, take that. that was a real tone setter from the defense early on. you heard fitz talk about the turnovers. a little play fake, carson palmer slant to larry fitzgerald, up 7-0 arizona. hitting on every phase of the game. trips left, watch palmer, plenty of time. safe pocket there. he finds michael floyd back of the end zone, touchdown. again, we've talked about the
5:09 pm
carson palmer. you saw it today, second and one. under a minute left. jaron brown, 51 yards, touchdown. you go into halftime, and you're in the locker room up 24-0. then early third quarter, watch this run after the catch, the stiff-arm, the speed, and the downfield running of david johnson, impressive again. d.j., very, very strong performance this afternoon against the buccaneers. and when you look at the turnovers, josh mauro, the deflection of the winston pass, sims bobbles it, and there's marcus cooper taking it to the house. how about that? 40-7 the final. we've got so much more to come on our coverage of the cardinals win. that includes max starks tonight on sports night. he'll break down some of the big plays and take you inside what happened, the how and the why, and our post-game coverage with richard saenz as well. plus the big upsets and stunners, and there was one

way. nfl week number two, mark us down. join us tonight. more cards coverage tonight on sports night. we'll see you at 10:30. staying in the sports world, when you go to see a baseball game, you probably see the warnings in the stadium about the dangers of foul balls flying through the air. most people don't think it's going to happen to you. >> and the print is really tiny. you do think that's a one in a million chance. a record setting up ruining one fan's night. this woman was hit in the head by a baseball while watching the d'backs take on the dodgers during last night's game. her name is patty lukasic. she was sitting in the handicapped section and is handicapped herself. she was hit in the head by what turned out to be the third longest home run ball ever hit. patty had to get 17 stitches because of the accident. she says she can't believe that
5:11 pm
>> think how many seats there are in chase field, and we were online looking that this was like the third longest home run for the week or however, and it connected to me. >> wow, that's scary stuff. she looks like she's making an okay recovery there. she certainly has a story now. she says she likes to see the d'backs play onc month. we will have more on this story tonight on fox 10 news at 9:00 and 10:00. two potential terror attacks in the united states in the last 24 hours. we'll bring you the latest from new york and minnesota. nice and clear out there today, but the chance for rain is back in our forecast. i'll tell you when you might expect to see some of those raindrops coming up in just a
