an airplane? >> what is that? >> it is, it is. it's an airplane! >> get dad out here! oh, my gosh. >> that's an airplane, dude. that's an ai down, it's going down. >> oh, my god! >> true panic last night for a lot of people who saw that fireball in the sky, as a small plane that was being used to carry sky divers caught fire and then crashed into a home in gilbert, just incredible. >> yeah, and there were two people inside that home watching tv. somehow, miraculously they were

were also okay. only the pilot has injuries in this. >> marcy jones joins us live from gilbert >> reporter: that's right, guys. it's 27 hours after this happened, and it's really interesting, the pungent smell of a freshly put out fire. total loss here says the fire captain of gilbert. but nobody was killed. just that pilot had burns all over his body. they are calling it nothing short of a miracle. >> i have often thought about, you know, why this had to happen, and i don't know. i guess that's for everybody's own conclusions. but i believe in miracles, and this was one of them. >> barbara isn't the only one calling what happened last night a miracle, after a small plane previously carrying four

into this home. it's miraculous no one lost their life. neighbors say it's a horrific scene. >> we walked outside to our backyard, and we saw the ball of fire up in the sky. so we knew it was an airplane on fire, and then we just saw it coming down. >> barbara says at first no one knew exactly what was going on when a crowd of 8,000 at the gilbert civic center watched the fire fall from the sky. >> at that time we didn't know what it was. we just saw a flame going the sky. we did see the sky divers, and they did land, all of them, so we didn't really know at that point what was going on. >> a couple was inside of the home watching tv at the time of the crash. thankfully, they escaped before the home was engulfed in flames. barbara says the skyhawk divers are all okay but still shocked at what happened. >> they are shook up. they are seeing the whole

their concern is for the family that the plane went into their house you, and they're very, very, very sorry about that. of course, it was out of their control, but they're all doing okay. >> you can just imagine how terrifying it must have been for those sky divers to jump out, knowing that something was wrong with that plane. now, ntsb is launching a full lgislation into exactly what led up to this crash. reporting live, marcy jones, fox 10 news. tempe police beefing up security tomorrow at corona del sol high school. police are investigating a rumor about threat there, and while officers say they don't believe these rumors are credible, they also don't want to take any chances. the man suspected of running his car into three phoenix police officers has been taken to the hospital. marc payne was held on charges of attempted to first-degree

among other charges. now, he sped across the parking lot of a qt store early tuesday morning. all three officers have since been hospitalized and released. the maricopa county sheriff's office says payne was taken to the hospital wednesday. so far no word on what payne is being treated for. fire crews are working to put out the san jim fire about 30 miles northwest of he's video from our own photo journalist, tom fergus. fire crews on the side of the road working to put that out, the flames have now burned through more than 500 acres since this fire started. it was nearly two weeks ago that it was sparked by lightning. as of today, that fire is still not contained. fire crews putting out a fire at an old church, this time in buckeye. the flames sparked at this

verde road in pima. when crews got there, fire had already spread to most of the buildings. crews are calling the fire suspicious because the church doesn't have any power to the building. no word on how it started yet, the maricopa county sheriff's office is investigating. a record making home run making an exciting night for a baseball player, but for one woman, a fan, it meant the hospital. >> this happened in the game against the dodgers. >> a very lucky bat and home run by this los angeles dodgers baseball player, but not so lucky for this diamondbacks fan. this woman sitting in an area where home run balls typically did not get to, but unfortunately on saturday night, one did and hit her right in the head. >> that's a feeling i will never, ever forget, when that ball hit me in the head.

long >> patly lucas sick at home recovering after her trip to the dbacks game saturday night turned into a hospital visit, this after petersen hit a record home run in the fourth inning. >> before you knew it, i see tim going up to i'll get it, but before he could even do anything it hit me right in the forehead. >> that she had to get 17 stitches. she was sitting in the handicapped section and happens to be handicapped herself. she's still shocked about how the typically fun and peaceful baseball game turned out. >> that's when i was sitting there in the hospital, sitting there thinking how many seats there are in chase field, and we were online looking, that this was like the third longest home

>> and patty says everybody with the diamondbacks, including the medical staff, was extremely nice. everybody helped her out, and oddly enough she has tickets to a diamondbacks game here in about two weeks. she's going to be sitting in the exact same seats. she says she wouldn't miss it. reporting live, danielle miller, fox 10 news. >> thanks, danielle. family spent quality time with their kids in a fun and friendly competition this weekend. >> the children's cancer is holding a fort building competition. this is to bring cancer survivors and their families together and have some fun. te fort building competition taking place near chandler boulevard, part of an organization's second annual superhero sunday fort build. these families were given boxes, sheets, pool noodles and told to get creative and make a fort, the organizers saying it hopes to bring together the family.

you're watching fox 10 news with linda williams and marc martinez in hd. agents investigate issing an act of terror. an off-duty police officer kills a knife wielding attacker. this all unfolded at mall. fox news correspondent dan springer has more. >> investigators are now reviewing a stabbing attack at a minnesota mall as a possible act of terrorism. >> we are currently investigating this as a potential act of terrorism. we do not at this point in time know whether the subject was in contact with, had connections with, was inspired by a foreign terrorist organization. >> reporter: the chaos unfolded at around 8:00 p.m. at the cross

uniform, the attacker began stabbing people, nine people. an off-duty police officer killed the attacker. >> he clearly prevented potential injuries and loss of life. his heroic actions are exemplary. >> police say the attacker mentioned allah, and asked at least one victim i muslim. >> we have executed at least two search warrants. we did discover the suspect's vehicle in the mall parking lot. that vehicle was cleared and impounded, and, in other words, there is no eminent threat. >> i.s.i.s. claimed responsibility for the violence, calling the attacker a soldier of the islamic state. community leaders in the islamic group are condemning the

relationship with i.s.i.s. islam is peace. >> it's not known if i.s.i.s. planned the attack or inspired it as another lone wolf attack in the united states. >> and we have just confirmed that five people have been taken into custody in connection with last night's explosion in new york city. in the meantime, the fbi is still on scene investigating the blast. almost 30 people were sent to the hospital, as we heard. was an intentional act, and again i.s.i.s. is taking responsibility for it. a second device was found on 22nd street three hours after that explosion. >> we don't know if there was any political or social motivation, but we definitely had a bombing last night on 23rd street and we had a suspicious device on 22nd street. >> that suspicious device was

of the injured were treated at a hospital. beaches in the jersey shore town of seaside park where a pipe bomb exploded have now reopened. that bomb blew up shortly before thousands of runners were to participate in a 5k race to benefit marines and sailors. investigators won't say if this explosion explosion was terror-related or had connection to that bomb blast in new york city. new york city's governor says police have promising leads but no suspects. arming students with personal alarms all in an effort to stop campus sexual assaults and robberies. they are called sound grenades, being issued at east bay university. they will go for 30 minutes or until two pieces of the device

fox 10 news is back. an event to celebrate the world's largest title bore. when i heard that, i thought, what is a title bore? it's a world renowned phenomena caused by the gravitation and pull thousands gathered to appreciate the largest title bore, saying the best time to observe it is between the 18th and 15th day on the 8th month on the chinese lunar calendar. hope you've all enjoyed your weekend. warm temperatures out there, pretty nice out this evening. we are looking at low 90s in most spots across the valley,

shot from our tower cam. we are already seeing some indications of that by the cloud cover to the south and west of us. while we are clear outside tonight, we are going to tap into a little bit of subtropical moisture, meaning the chance for activity in california in addition to arizona. the reason for this activity, tropical cyclone payne, which hurricane as it continues to make its way towards the baja peninsula, can he we will continue to see rain showers and the big push of moisture, which means a potential for rain in our neck of the woods. timing out the potential rainfall, we'll start to see most of that activity tuesday morning. we'll continue to keep a chance for rain, particularly in eastern arizona, as we get into the later evening hours. as we get into wednesday, the system really falls apart and any activity that we'll see will pretty much be scattered.

lake havasu to 70 for kingman, mid-50s right now for st. john's, mid-60s for winslow, upper 70s for globe, about 70 degrees in safford. valley numbers not only in the 90s, but already some spots cooling and the 80s and 70s. florence at 70, buckeye low 80s, upper 80s for deer valley, and for fountain hills and cave creek you're currently at 82 degrees. today quite a few degrees warmer than the seasonal norm. we weren't too far off from the record temperature, hit this afternoon, six degrees warmer that where we ought to be. the downward trend continuing, music to a lot of people's ears. some activity to the southeast, stretching up into new england on the front side of this cold front, very good news for parts of the northeast, which several sections of that are in drought territory. much needed rain there. we did see severe thunderstorm activity earlier this evening tracking into parts of arkansas

overnight, 57 for payson, 76 degrees for lake havasu, 57 for douglas, about ten degrees cooler than that for winslow, 62 in page, 30 degrees for the grand canyon and 35 expected for window rock. still picking up a little bit of the pink, red how do you on our contour map, meaning triple digits still in the picture for far western arizona, a little bit cooler in sedona at 91, pleasant in st. john's at 81, 100 for casa grande and 94 degrees for mostly clear skies out there tonight. but tomorrow you will notice that increasing cloud cover, temperatures creeping towards the upper nineties, perhaps toward that century mark. and then we'll see a big cooldown as we get into your tuesday. this looks like a best chance right now, as indicated by the models, about when we'll see the rain, but there's a lot of disagreement between the models about the timing exactly on that day and the amount of rain. so we'll keep the umbrella in the forecast for that day. wednesday, guys, it looks like we'll dry out.

a new page of controversy for sheriff paul babeu. sources tell us the fbi has subpoenaed records related to how babeu's office used seized criminal money also known as rico funds. critics have said pcso's use of the foundation is like money laundering. and they've also accused babeu of using the funds to fuel his campaign. it may already be illegal campaigning with government resources. or if they're just being used to make the sheriff look good, as he runs for congress.

anita roman, fox 10 news. >> she will be speaking tuesday inside the hospital's gym. the man responsible for the accident that caused her to lose her leg is charged with driving while impaired. a sad update on a man the pima county sheriff's office had been looking for, the 75-year-old found dead a few hours ago. they found his car in area near i 199. the sheriff's office says there are no signs of foul play. police are asking for your help this finding two suspects connected with an armed robbery of a church's chicken. take a look. police are hoping that somebody knows where the suspects are. >> if someone knows the suspect or the clothing the suspect was wearing, he had a shirt that said i am hip-hop, it is possible that they have seen them in their neighborhood or

the latest on the fox 10 news is back. the latest now on the cease fire in the syrian war that seems to be unravelling. >> the u.s. and russia put the deal together, but fighting is once again increasing in syria. > fox 10 news correspondent connor powell has the latest from the middle east. >> u.s. and russian cease fire in syria seems to be crumbling as violence there is increasing. the agreement had reduced violence across the country significantly since the truce went into effect sunday night, but the pentagon admitted that u.s. jets mistakenly bombed a syrian outpost, killing more than 60 syrian troops. the pentagon says the u.s. jets thought they were attacking

russians dismissed the excuse. as part of the international agreement and in a sign of the growing cooperation between the u.s. and russia, the two countries were supposed to set up a joint intelligence center in geneva. with the cease fire crumbling, that looks in jeopardy. in jerusalem, connor powell, fo the united states is condemning north korea's recent nuclear test. secretary of state john kerry met with world leaders at the u.n. general assembly earlier today, japan and south korea joining the united states in calls for tougher measures on north korea. the united states is working with other countries to prevent future nuclear tests. >> and the united states remains deeply committed to our treaty obligations, to our mutual defense obligations, and to

you're watching fox 10 sports with jude lacava in hd. given the last week, everybody kind of knew it, but nobody wanted to actually say it. you can't lose your first two games at home and expect to do great things this season, right? there was a sense of urgency for the arizona cardinals going into this game this afternoon against the tampa bay buccaneers. and man, did they play with a sense of urgency. it started with patrick peterson before the in the game, jameis winston going deep, going long, and going right into the hands of patrick peterson. he was looking for mike evans. this was a big interception earlier in that first quarter, patrick pointing to the stands and saying, let's get it done. and that was a tone seter for the arizona defense. first and goal, a little play fake, and there's carson palmer to larry fitzgerald, 7-0, arizona cardinals, fitz another strong performance, third and
