we begin with a fox 10 news alert. phoenix police say a suspect who was caught by police was forced to eat marijuana by those police officers. >> and they reportedly told him if he ate the would avoid going to jail. we have some of the information for you right there. there is an investigation that is started into this case that's take place here. the police chief says once the investigation is complete, he'll take action to make sure the people responsible are in fact held accountable. >> it happened earlier this month during a traffic stop. police say the suspect had marijuana in his vehicle, and

told to eat pot right there. police are looking into there and there may be misconduct charges. another story today, firefighters from phoenix and glendale battling flames. >> intense explosions broke out, rattling the neighbors, as you can imagine. >> crews from the phoenix fire department remained on scene throughout the morning making sure all of the hot spots here at the fire were out. they were called out her this morning after there were several reports of explosion. take a look at cell phone video shot by a neighbor. the entire property engulfed in the bright orange flames, shooting as high as 30 feet in the sky. neighbors report hearing as many as ten different explosions. take a listen. >> as soon as we opened our door, first we heard a loud bang and explosion. it shook our mobile home. we opened the door and there was

bunch of flames, probably 30 feet, maybe taller, a bunch of smoke, and just my neighbors scrambling to try to get their animals out. >> there was a horse in the backyard. the neighbors were awesome. they ripped the fence down. they got the horse out. his dog was running loose in their yard. we had to grab the dog and get the degree out of the way. >> the cause of fire under investigation, the phoenix fire department captain says that appears the owner was out of town, but she says it is very unlikely anyone would have survived the fire or the explosion had they been inside. >> that was anita roman out there for us in the field with that big story. new on fox, peoria fire crews battle a house fire near 95th avenue and olive. we have got some video. boy, look at that smoke going out of there. it's not clear what started the fire that ripped through the

it has been a busy day, a house fire near 26th avenue and mcdowell road, leaving five people without a place to stay, crews responding a little bit after 5:30 this morning, all five people who lived there are now displaced. one person hurt when flames broke out at a salvage yard near 51st avenue and lower buckeye. someone living in a trailer there reportedly spotted a debris fire and then that spread a man tried to put it out with a water house, suffered minor burns to his handment he was treated at the scene. a total loss, the cause is under investigation. maybe if you're up north or even in the downtown area, you have got some rain today, maybe even a little bit of visibility, dark clouds. skyfox getting scots of university of phoenix stadium. nice dousing of rain, good for the field, coming up in a couple of weeks.

downtown phoenix, a pretty wet day so far. is this hurricane paine? i'm only asking that so i can get a look. >> the tail end is over. that really does sound like a professional wrestler, doesn't it? maybe from the late '50s, or perhaps a boxer, a struggler, you know, john hurricane paine. i don't know. i'm probably going too far afield here, but what we are getting at is it is still raining out here. we would love to see it. here's a closer look. as we expected to see, one last gasp from this tropical event. sure enough, that's the case. once these clouds and showers are gone, we are going to break out the sunshine for the end of the day and bring on the good times as we heard toward the weekend. if you are out on the 60 or the 202 from guadalupe eastward, it's going to be a little bit wet. nothing too terrible coming

very, very heavy rainfall at the moment. also pushing up forwards carefree. if you are heading up the 17, traveling to and from flagstaff, you may be heading in and out of showers during that period of time. we'll have a full tour of radar coming up in a few minutes. fox follow-up now, new information about a wrong-way driver op u.s. 60 last night, d.p.s. says an elderly woman made a u-turn on the near p.o.w. and butte roads. it's not -- power and butte roads. it's not clear why she turned. there was a big crash, three people hurt, injuries remaining from minor to serious. they are all expected to survive. the westbound lanes of u.s. 60 reopening earlier this morning, shut down for most of the night. man in glendale trying to get a man off the streets,

she is on for a work. >> investigators say he became behind the victim, lifted her skirt, and then grabbed her and ran off. if you have any information, possibly recognize who this could be, please call glendale police. you decide 2016, the 2016 presidential campaign hits arizona again today. republican vice presidential nominee mike pence is here in the valley at an event tonight in mesa. indiana governor mike pence will be here at the living word bible visit yesterday afternoon. we are told the public is invited, but there is not a link to get tickets on the official campaign website. before heading to arizona today, pence is expected to make an appearance in colorado springs this afternoon. pence is expected to hold a qa session and give a speech, the rally begins at 6:30. counting the days to the first presidential debate

only at casino arizona and talking stick resort! welcome back. in court today, cassie sack rider pleads not guilty during her arraignment. she's accused of causing a fatal crash killing two people in the east valley last month. police say admitted to drinking and taking drugs beforehand. they say she consumed alcohol, marijuana, xanax and cocaine before she eventually got bhooind behind the wheel. her next court date is set for november. the national guard now patrolling the streets in charlotte, north carolina after a second night of violent protest there. the governor is declaring a sfrmz. the chaos erupting last night after a man was shot during the protest. police say the victim was shot by somebody in the crowd, not police. but demonstrators say no it was

>> we are reviewing video, and we are assessing our people who were there as well because an allegation was made that one of our officers might have been involved. as i said before, guys, we are here to seek the truth. >> the police chief released new information on keith lamont scott's death. now, that's the man who was shot originally by a police officer that sparked this whole thing. he says the, the chief says that he has seen video of the shooting. he says he did not see visual evidence that a person pointing a gun at police officers before they then shot. the video does back up the police version of events in many other instances, so it will be released at some point. scott's family has not seen the tape. meanwhile, the scene of another police shooting, a vigil held for terrence crutcher. people who attended said they were working to heal racial relations and spark some change in their community. crutcher was killed by an

fox 10 news is back. heavy rain bringing flash flooding to storms dumped as much as four and a half inches of rain in parts of the state. school actually had to be cancelled because of reports of rain and flooding. there were also reports of mudslide, which you don't hear about very often in wisconsin. >> dells? >> what is a dell? >> where a farmer lives. >> the farmer in the dell.

marry-o? >> close to the marry-o, more of a low lying area. i know i'm going to talk myself right out of my own time. i'm going to get right to it. we have got showers moving west to east across the state, and i think you're going to love the way it all pans out. i think we'll take first of all a quick look at the tower cam, and boy, we have got a lot of low hanging clouds out there. i think, for a little while longer. you can see even these rain shafts as you look south to north across the valley, all of it is moving east. as we talked about yesterday, we might see one last gasp from that tropical event, and this is it. once we get to the late afternoon hours, the sunshine start breaking out. it's going to be a real beautiful change from what we are seeing. here's the way we'll look now, about 85 as we wrap things up,

but then as we head through tonight, everything is whisked away. we'll see about 65 degrees. it's going to be a beautiful way to usher in the best way of the week, which will be tomorrow. here's the way we'll stand again, north to south. we have got this one long line of showers and thunderstorms that kind of keep popping up here in the western half of the state, and they're going to kind of keep rolling themselves east ward. but they are redeveloping, you know, as the whole mess pushes in that direction, so we'll for probably another couple of hours of this activity before everything starts to clear up here in the valley. but let's take a closer look at how it's all going. again, if you're going to be riding up the 17 today, it is going to be busy. you'll be in and out of the showers really the whole time. here's the way the rain is marching, west to east, scattered light rain here along i-8. we have also seen scattered showers along the 202 and east, if you are headed towards tempe

along north scottsdale, up around gainey ranch they have seen rainfall as well. that's going to continue on to the west side of the mcdowells, over the top to fountain hills, desert highlands, cave creek. and then farther north, really hugging the 17 right now and pushing northward towards flagstaff. so it's going to be a wet ride all the way up there. some of these showers are a little bit more mod at than the drizzle that we have no one is getting anything too terribly heavy right now, all along i-40, east to west, to flagstaff, you're going to catch a lot of the rainfall. it stretches all the way up to utah. yeah. and then as we head on down to the west end of the 40, a couple of showers there. but it looks like everything will start to clear out pretty well before we get to din time, at least here in the valley.

mountains, you may still be dealing with with some of these rainfall by 6:00 -- so as we get on toward your weekend, you're going to love it. here's the way everything is going to roll. today we'll call it, again, the mid-80s out there. by tomorrow, though, back into the bright yellow sunshine. it's going to be gorgeous. and then the weekend looks good too. all of next week as well. we have broken the back of the monsoon. >> oh. >> tomorrow will be the f full day of autumn. troy was on it. as soon as he got into the study today. >> yeah. >> he said, hey, doesn't fall begin today? you were just in time. >> it's my favorite time of the year here in the valley, for sure. it's like our spring, right? because we are entering our season that's great outside. >> so are you like a pumpkin spice latte guy? >> i don't drink a lot of pumpkin stuff.

live from fox studios, fox 10 news back. tesla owners should be discovering some updated auto pilot software in vehicles today. the company's ceo tweeted yesterday that the automatic updates were set to begin overnight, with an increased reliance on radar, meaning the vehicle will likely be able to better detect some objects. blue bell with another likely recall because of listeria again, including cookie dough, two step and chocolate chip cookie dough.
