and as we got toward the fountain hills area. we really start to see heavy rain. i was taking a look at the rainfall totals from flood control a few minutes ago. fountain hills in the past half hour getting close to .3 of an inch of rain in some locations. at shay around 124th. temperatures feel temperatures dropped into the 70s. it is a great way to start the first day of fall. looks like it got a little bit af break now but i know other pockets of the valley that got the rain like we did. >> let's take a look at where the rain is falling. >> this is a big view of the west coast. but look at that. look how big the cell that went through fountain hills.

through scottsdale, through mesa, it's fizzling out as the rush hour is getting under way. and as we widen out, there's still stormy weather to the north, but most of the stormy stuff is not over areas where we are seeing a lot of people living. they are not over neighborhoods this is out in the national forest. and when you head a little further to the north, flag staff got hit with some rain. it looks like cells are moving ro and we have a little bit of rain moving through the kcolorado river. >> officers behaving badly. it's led to a misconduct investigation at the phoenix police department. three phoenix police officers have quit and lieutenant has been demoted. >> it stems from a traffic stop last week where a man says officers forced him to eat

jail. this sounds like they have zero tolerance over at phoenix p.d. >> that's right. i have never seen the chief this upset as he was today during a news conference. he told us those three officers would have been fired if they had not resigned. this stems from an incident where the officers are accused of forcing an 18-year-old man eating marijuana at a traffic stop possession. here they are. richard, jason and michael are in the first year on the force. but mcfadden transferred from chicago after spending so 10 years there. >> it happened around 3:30 in

found pot in the car. the 19-year-old driver said if he ate the pot he would avoid going to jail. so he did. all three officers turned off their body cams that would have provided evidence in this case. he was very upset about that. but even without that evidence he has enough information to have fired the officers if they did not quit on their own. >> because i can tell you based on the information that i have termination was inevitable. it was coming. so i'm with their activities and i was going to fire them based on the information i have right now. >> so they chose to resign. that's their call. they are not phoenix police department employees any more. and the lieutenant was demoted. he did not act fast enough to take care of the situation once he became aware of it.

there are two investigations going on here. an internal investigation and criminal investigation. two of the officers are named as suspects so they could be facing criminal charges. marc martinez, fox 10 news. >> a detention offer sir is under arrest -- officer is under arrest charged with having sex with an inmate. he admitted to having sexual contact with a female inmate in 2013. he is off the job while the investigation goes on. >> the third night of unrest in charlotte, north carolina. we are taking you live there. a little more peaceful tonight hopefully. last night demonstrators clashed with police in riot gear and the protest, it turned violent. five officers and nine protesters were hurt. more than 40 people were arrested.

they were in huge numbers and it's something we can't anticipate. >> the national guard's role will be to protect businesses from additional looting. you can watch additional coverage on fox 10 news now. head to fox10phoenix.com, we have a link there. >> and we are learning the police officer that shot and killed an unarmed man in tulsa, oklahoma is now being charged with first degree manslaughter. betty shelby terrence crutcher as officers were investigating his stalled vehicle in the road. shelby's attorney says crutcher was not following police commands and began to reach into his suv window. his family says video shows the window was rolled up. police say he did not have a gun on him or in his vehicle. >> another protest set to happen here in the valley. they plan to block the bridge at 9:00 a.m. on monday to protest

this incident was caught on camera and the owner is hoping someone would put a would-be pig napper behind bars. nicole garcia on the story tonight. tell us about it. >> john and kari, look at this guy. the little guy was almost stolen during a home burglary but this piglet was not having it. the owner was relieved he was not taken with t inside the house. but she's worried they may come back for him. >> thieves broke into the maryville house. you can hear the dog barking and you can see sprinkles, the micro pig roaming around. it's not long before one of the thieves discovers sprinkles. >> come here. >> he calls for one of the other guys and attempts to grab the piglet, but sprinkles was able

would-be pig napper gave up. >> he's pretty fast and he got away. and i'm giving him extra love since he's here. >> before she left for a doctor's appointment she put on a surveillance camera. just minutes after she left it shows the thieves in the home. they made off with a 60 inch tv, video game console and several drones among other but the one thing she can't replace, sprinkles, they left behind. she was on a waiting list for a year and-a-half before she was able to adopt the mini pig. sprinkles is 10 months old. >> this is my baby. i waited a long time for him. it's just been me and him for about 10 months now since he was born and i'm super attached. that would have been the worst thing for me to lose in this house. >> the neighbor that witnessed

they drove off in a white suv. if you have information call phoenix police. meanwhile, sprinkles owner says she's taking him to a relatives house in fear the thieves may come back for the piglet. >> they better not do that, nicole. that's war. if they come back for sprinkles, that's war. all right. fox follow up tonight. a dog that was rescue interested a phoenix canal has found her forever home with the police officers that this shepherd mix known as ginger fell into the 17 foot canal last month. the officer spotted her and called the humane society. crews rescued ginger and she was adopted by the officer who first spotted her. >> that's awesome. >> that's good stuff. >> look at this picture. can you believe a couple of hours ago we were dealing with hardcore heavy rain showers and thunderstorms? and now it's moved through. i think you are going to love

activity. but this was a cold front moving through the state and with a little tropical moisture feeding into it, that brought us the storms today, and look how they moved through. i will back up and take a look here. look how it starts up in buckeye, avondale into scottsdale, north and south scottsdale got hit pretty hard. mesa, as we look what's left it is fizzling out you can see more storms popping up especially along as you move across the colorado river. very strong storms south of mesquite, north of peach springs. flag staff got hit as well. dew point still incredibly high. especially here in phoenix. we are not out of the woods totally with the rain tonight. but they are starting to come down across the state. anything where you see 55 or so

little storm activity for the evening. i wanted to share with you some folks having a good time in the rain. and take a look at these scary storm clouds as they dissend. -- descend. rain totals anywhere from a trace of an inch to a quarter of an inch since midnight here. over of a third sedona. the grand canyon, almost a full inch up there. future cast showing rain moving out of the state by tomorrow morning it's going to be a gorgeous day. the forecast is looking so good tomorrow. we are looking for a temperature around 84 here. 68 in prescott. this is the 10 day. sunny, cooler, a little breezy. the cool front moves through. we have breezy conditions on the other side of it. lots of sunshine. 84 degrees.
