the resemblance is striking. on the left is the sketch of a sexual assault suspect and on the right is the mug shot. the sketch was created by the victim herself with the help of a new computer program. we are live with more on this new technology. >> yeah, the composite was done using a computer program that allows the victims to essentially design the composites themselves. the glendale police department is the only department in the state right now that is using it and police got a huge break in this that they released the sketch. it wasn't long after glendale police released this sketch of the suspect in sunday's brazen sexual assault that the tips came rolling in. which led to the arrest of 52-year-old jeffrey charles wilson. just two days after the incident. take a look at how spot on the victim generated sketch is compared to the actual mug shot of the suspect. >> we received more than one tip with that name.

>> the 19-year-old victim herself came up with the composite using a design system called sketch cop face ette. an interactive computer program that provides hundreds of different of identification markers that victims can browse and choose froms in it allows the stricktime to go in and use different characteristics. they can select different eyes, different ears, different nose. and that really is the best way to do it. >> een middle person allowing victims to directly translate their own memories. we put a demonstration version of the program to the test and had a fox 10 employee develop a composite after looking at a photograph of a man she has never met. this is what she came up with. glendale police say the sketch is generate with the program are more accurate and empowers the victim in this particular case, the victim was able to relay the uniqueness of the suspect's

had a lot of interaction on social media that was -- they thought it was almost cartoony, but it's those characteristics that stand out to our victims that ultimately led to the identification. >> now glendale police detectives have this program on their laptop computers and they are able to take that directly to the victims. they have been using this for the past five years and credit it for helping produce more tips. reporting live, nicole garcia, "fox 10 news." a woman is by a car during morning rush-hour traffic. she was crossing the street near 67th avenue and camelback when the car hit her. she died at the scene. police do not believe impairment was a factor in the crash. and there are obviously trying to get to the bottom of what happened this morning. sheriff joe arpaio loses a lawsuit over a broken shoulder he suffered three years ago. it was back in february of 2013. arpaio fell outside of a phoenix office building. his lawyer argued that walkway

did not comply with building codes so he sued hines properties and other owners for unspecified amount of damages but the judge ruled that arpaio should have been able to navigate 9 walkway -- the walkway without injury. it's been 41 years since a valley family saw their loved one who just vanished and has never been seen since. her name is chris perkins. she was just 23 years old when she vanished. troy hayden spoke to chris' like since then. >> in 1975, chris perkins was a 23-year-old dental assistant living near 19th avenue and thunderbird. all of these years later her family still holding out hope that they will find out what happened to her. >> it's kind of hard to go back and talk about it because as i got older, she didn't. >> even though she is now in her late 50s, laura anderson's

in september of 1975, chris disappeared from her phoenix apartment. her car was found a couple of miles away in what was then a remote desert area. 51 avenue and bell. little sister laura was just 17 years old and remembers her family's pain and efforts to find chris. >> they hired private detectives. it's just -- it's awful. you don't know where she is. you don'tno >> suspicion almost immediately turned to chris' ex-husband, russell perkins who laura said told the family that chris would never be found. >> i have always thought that chris and i never got to actually grow up together. we never got to go through the sister things that sisters do. and that's been the hardest. just not having her around. >> chris' ex-husband russell perkins was investigated by police but no arrest was ever

away. troy hayden, "fox 10 news." chris' family sadly just one of thousands of arizona families who are missing loved ones with no answers. in november, the phoenix police department is holding its second annual missing in arizona day where missing families, people with missing family members, they can meet with law enforcement agencies and get some answers or renew interest in the case. nine missing persons cases were resolved following last year's event. the city of phoenix is their opinions on city politics. the city council voting unanimously to allow employees to publicly state their opinions about candidates who are running for city office that means they can sound off on social media and sign recall petitions, put up signs in their yards. what they cannot do it engage in political activities while wearing a city uniform and they cannot initiate or gather signatures on recall and nominating petitions. those changes will take effect

where donald trump is speaking at a rally right now. we were streaming this speech live on fox news now on our facebook page and again donald trump will be in prescott valley for another campaign rally on tuesday october 4. in tonight's business watch, three u.s. senators are asking for an investigation into epipen maker mylan. they sent a letter to the justice department. looking into the launch of a generic version of the epipen. the senators believe the company may be that change. mylan came under fire earlier this year for the skyrocketing price of the epipen. blackberry is no longer making phones. the cell phone maker has been struggling for years as users ditch their blackberries for the iphone and other smartphones on the market. blackberry ceo said one year ago the company had until this month to make its phone business as profitable and that did not happen. and the website nerd wallet is out with what you should buy

a new page of controversy for sheriff paul babeu. sources tell us the fbi has subpoenaed records related to how babeu's office used seized criminal money critics have said pcso's use of the foundation is like money laundering. and they've also accused babeu of using the funds to fuel his campaign. it may already be illegal campaigning with government resources. or if they're just being used to make the sheriff look good, as he runs for congress.

from new york city this morning where the young girl just had surgery. her mother says her recovery is going well and this carefree two-year-old continues to smile even after the fight of her life. >> doing good. she is tired right now but she is good. you want to pick your cousins up? >> natalie and her family have a special bond with the phoenix police department. neighborhood officers held a prayer circle outside of phoenix children's hospital with the family nearly three months ago. so it's only fitting t ten and a half hours of surgery, 14 radiation sessions and a round of chemo, those same officers were there to welcome natalie back home. police continue to support her during each part of the battle including the end of a long flight home. >> really long. we are ready to just be normal for a little bit. >> natalie loves the police. so being surrounded by members of this squad gives her a little extra protection and extra protection for natalie is the

for joining us for fox10 news thank you for joining us tonight at 6:00. we begin with a prajic story a five-year-old boy somehow gets his hands on a gun and accidentally shoots and kills himself. steve krafft spent the day in avondale and has the latest. >> this is something we've seen all too many times here in the valley. a young child gets his hands on a gun with tragic consequences.

learn the five-year-old boy who shot himself had died. avondale police say it happened in this townhouse between 9:30 and 10:00 this morning. the investigation is in its early stages so there is a lot they are not telling us. police not saying what type of gun was used by the little boy. how many shot maze have been fired. where the little boy was hit. >> i rushed home because i have a five-year-old son myself that plays with him. just rushing home to like know that it was actually my neighbor's son. it was really heart >> a neighbor told us this complex is filled with single moms who have between three and five children. she believed that little boy who died was one of five kids, all of them young. the grim question, hanging over this tragic scene, how was it a five-year-old boy was able to get his hands on a loaded gun. >> unfortunately when you know when weapons are involved you have to be sure you are more safe with those type of things because these incidents happen.
