we start with a fox 10 and good evening. we start with a fox 10 news alert. fire crews on the scene of a deadly house fire in mesa. >> a man was trapped in that burning home and did not make it out alive. fox 10's marcy jones is live. >> it's a very eerie feeling. i'm very sad. you can see the scene here. just a units responded to this house fire here on east dra goon. they tell us when they first arrived on scene, the house right here was absolutely engulfed in flames. now, here's where things took a turn for the worse. there were several family members out here alerting fire fighters that there was one more family member inside. we're hearing that that m man ws trapped. now, unfortunately, we know that that man in his early 50s did not survive. neighbors out here say they're absolutely shocked.

>> nothing like this ever really happens around here. it's mostly calm stuff and nothing really. and to find out that he was deceased in there is crazy. >> reporter: now, as you can see, police and fire units still on the scene. they're still trying to piece together exactly what happened, what led up to this fire being started and they're not releasing the identity of this man just yet. they're waiting until all his family is properly -- notified. >> thanks, marcy. search crews are looking for missing jesse wilson tonight. here's a look in avondale. 10-year-old jesse wilson was last seen nearly three months ago. search crews combing the area for any sign of the little boy at the request of jesse's grandmother. the owners of arizona extreme terrain search and rescue pitching in tonight to help. >> closure for the family is

we're looking in areas that -- that the police and other search and rescues apparently chose to ignore. >> jesse was last scene july 17th. at his home in buckeye. investigators believe he may have climbed out of their home, through a bedroom window. if you have any information, you're asked to call buckeye p.d. a letter sent home to parents in surprise after reports of a man exposg himself near paradise honors high school. the incident happened friday morning around 11:45 outside the fence on the sidewalk near the southwest corner of the campus. police were called but the man was gone by the time officers arrived. he's described as a white man in his late teens to early 20s. more than aens and homes are evacuated after a gas leak in a chandler neighborhood. this happened near mcclintock and the 202. fire crews were called to this

bushfire. fire fighters say they knew it wasn't a normal fire when it kept reigniting after they put water out. crews spent the day looking for where that gas was coming from. >> we have crews and southwest gas roaming the neighborhood trying to figure out where the gas is coming from and we're basically metering house to house. >> families have now returned to their homes. fire fighters are still looking into the source of that gas leak. a fox 10 follow-up now. after two armed robberies at two phoenix-area gay barsz. the victims -- bars. the victims were robbed at gunpoint of their cell phones and wallets. this happened on tuesday night. a 2-year-old, 18-year-old -- 20-year-old, 18-year-old, and a 15-year-old boy have been booked on counts of armed robbery, aggravated assault and

both bars helped lead them to the suspects. investigators say the robberies took place about an hour apart tuesday night. one was in the area of 7th street and tourney. that's just north of indian school road. two victims were robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of the bunk house bar. the second robbery, just a few miles away, at 10th street and indian school road. police say the suspects walked in through an open robbed customers sitting on the bar's patio. and on to another armed robbery. police looking for a suspect in connection to an armed robbery of a jack in the box. this happened near 99th avenue and lower buckeye road. police say a child was actually standing at the counter when the armed robbery unfolded. the clerk gave the suspect the money and the suspect fired off one round at the cash register before leaving. >> but if you look at his clothing, this really stood out. someone in the neighborhood

clothing. we're fortunate the dad got that child out there of so they didn't get hurt, but now they have to catch the guy. >> if you have any information, you're urged to call silent witness. 480-witness. to chandler where two bicyclists were hit and one of them unfortunately has not survived. police say a distracted driver may be to blame here. this unfolded this morning on arizona avenue near ryan both bicyclists were taken to the hospital where one of them died from their injuries. the other bicyclist's condition is not known tonight. police are still looking into this crash. the caribbean is bracing for impact as one of the most powerful atlantic hurricanes in recent history continues along its path north. it's the strongest hurricane in the atlantic ocean since felix nine years ago. police are doing all they can to

tonight. matthew weakened a little bit as it drenched coastal colombia. >> this powerful storm is roaring across the caribbean on a course that still puts jamaica, haiti, and cuba in the path of potentially devastating winds and heavy rain. fox's janice dean has that story. >> reporter: hurricane matthew strengthened to an extremely powerful and rare category 5 storm last night, with winds sustained at 160 miles per hour before this was the first category 5 storm since hurricane felix in 2007. the storm is projected to hit jamaica and cause flooding krout the caribbean. -- throughout caribbean. officials and residents are doing everything they can to prepare for impact. >> we call on everyone to go to these shelters if necessary if in a dangerous swairks. >> reporter: residents living in

earthquake in 2010 are fearing for their homes and safety. >> we have no other place to live. the children are crying because they're hungry. we don't know what to do. the tents have been destroyed. we're waiting to see what they're going to do for juice in jake where the storm could -- for us. >> reporter: in jamaica where the storm could hit, residents aren't taking any chances. >> we got some ply boards because i'm from the east and because of the windows, we have to get plyboard to button water, lanterns, kerosene oil, the whole works. expected to move north over the next 24 hours. it's unclear whether the storm will make a direct landfall in the u.s. or move more eastward in the atlantic. stay tuned. in new york, janice dean, fox news. >> so much going with this storm. where is it heading now? what places are at risk? >> ty brennan is here with a look at the projected path of matthew. good evening, ty. >> good evening.

and right now it's really just been hanging out just north of colombia in the caribbean. you can see barely moving, coming out of the north-northwest at seven miles an hour. you can see the winds very strong. currently clocking at 150 miles an hour. this is the projected path of matthew. and as you can see, it is in a direct path right now of hitting jamaica, haiti, as well as cuba. so they are already preparing as you saw in that last news story. now, they're going to start to see the effects of that sunday night. the direct hit will come monday. but again, the big question is where this will go from here. a lot of the models are showing that it's going to continue up the coastline, possibly hitting florida here. but again, a lot of the experts are saying that it's too hard right now to measure when and where matthew will continue to go this far out. you can see tuesday, 8:00 p.m., those winds dying down slightly. that's what it is downgraded to

you may have heard it. a loud boom earlier this morning in the west valley. it was all because apps im -- imploded a piece of arizona history. >> we're a young state. we don't have a lot of things we should be blowing up. but technically -- but there's a water tower and two , and this is part of an old powerpoint, apps, that has -- power plant, apps, that has been around for 8 a years. -- 80 years. >> and quickly. >> courtney griffin was there. >> reporter: 80 years ago, the two aps stacks and water tower were part of an old steam unit. 15 years ago, it stopped operating. [sounds of explosion] >> reporter: today, it was imploded.

kicking up dust that was quickly washed away with water. and just like that, it's gone. all that's left now is rubble that will soon be hauled away and recycled. a bittersweet day for one former employee. >> it's kind of hard in one respect to see it torn down and to know you were part of that. and to have that disappear. at the same time i understand why. >> reporter: mike worked on the plant for 31 years. and eventually became a supervisor. he's seen a lot of change over the decades. are you surprised by how loud it was? >> i was. yeah, it kind of surprised me. i didn't know what to to expect. >> reporter: civil engineers were standing just about 1,000 feet from the towers. >> i know this is a change. you won't be able to see the towers and the stacks in the horizon, but it's a step in the right direction. we've made sure this is as safe

as possible. they're positioned at the base of the structure, so they should be able to fall on themselves. >> reporter: the implosion happened just after 7:00 a.m. near 43rd avenue and buckeye. >> this is probably the last big structures to go down, which was quite exciting, frankly. >> reporter: now what's left is a different view. courtney griffin, fox 10 news. >> i agree. quite exciting, frankly. aps says they do not currently haveny projects on that property. new at 9:00 tonight, phoenix police along with other law enforcement agencies announced the second annual missing in arizona today. the day will take place on november 5th this year. the goal is to raise awareness and support those with loved ones who have gone missing. last year's easement resulted in nine cases -- eecht event resulted in nine days -- nine cases being solved. one woman who went to the event

find a support group of others who are missing loved ones. >> meet people and know kind of give them the chance to see that putt a love of -- a lot of them are still fresh. so even after these years, you can survive. you don't get over it. but you can make it. >> every year there are more than 600,000 people reported missing. there are nearly 2,000 people reported missing in arizona. gas prices this p were pretty low. in fact, they were the cheapest in more than a decade. however, they could soon be on the rise. opec has reached a deal to scale back in its oil production. so oil prices expected to go up. and that means gas prices will, too. so here's a look at where we stand at the pump. according to gasbuddy.com, the average price of gas ringing in right now at $2.08. that's here in phoenix.

performances and crafts. there was a pond and a 12-foot waterfall. it was an absolutely beautiful day to get out and enjoy all that arizona has to offer. things were absolutely gorgeous. currently out there, 89 degrees. just a light breeze out of the north at three miles an hour. these are the temperatures around the valley. if you want to go take a jog around the neighborhood at this 9:00 hour, 84 in 77 in cave creek. fountain hills at 78. the northern part of the state, things really cooling down. flagstaff current temperature around 50. sedona 68. payson, 64. lake havasu at 86. phoenix 89 and casa grande 81 degrees. the satellite and radar. seeing maybe just a possibility of a few scattered showers in the northern part of our state. but nothing much. and those are starting to clear out as the evening progresses, making for a beautiful evening.

something changes tomorrow. this was a snapshot of your day. 97 degrees today. our normal right around 94. but we didn't hit anywhere near our record that was set back in 1980 when it hit 107 degrees. these are your forecasted lows for tonight. 72 for phoenix. 53 in prescott. flagstaff there at 41. sedona 59. winslow 51. grand canyon around 44 degrees for your overnight low. casa grande 67. and tucsoas tomorrow, things looking absolutely beautiful. a little bit cooler than what we were experiencing today. so 90 in phoenix. 94 in gila bend. sedona 76. flagstaff at 64. grand canyon at 69. and kingman 83. we'll start to see the clouds start to move in tomorrow morning and also the possibilities of maybe a stray hour here or there. the national -- stray shower here or there. the national weather service is giving us a 20% chance.

see the cloud cover around 90 degrees. but i do want to show you your 10-day forecast. we have some big changes. monday, those temperatures really take a nosedive. only 84 degrees. and then look down at your overnight lows. we're talking overnight lows in the upper 50s. we haven't seen that in quite some time. but warming right back up for next weekend. >> sounds good, thank you. hundreds of people packing the phoenix airrt this afternoon for a rally with libertarian presidential candidate gary johnson. >> supporters from all different areas were fired up about his appearance. fox 10's danielle miller was there and she joins us live. >> reporter: there was actually about 300 people at the rally today and a lot of passionate supporters and johnson tells us even if he doesn't win, he feels successful about his campaign and he hopes it will lead to the demise of a two-party system.

phenomenon is honesty and integrity and telling the truth. >> reporter: johnson says in order for him to win, he needs to get on the debate stage. he has to get a 15% vote in the national polls in order to do so. >> the presidential debate commission is made up of republicans and democrats that have no intention whatsoever of seeing anyone other than a republican or a democrat on stage. and when you recognize that right now, 50% of americans that are going to register to vote are registering as where is that representation? >> reporter: and another thing, johnson supports which hits close to home for here in arizona, is legalizing recreational marijuana. he does believe it will be legalized in every state and he told us that the last time he smoked it was about five months ago. another ballot measure johnson is not supporting is raising the minimum wage. reporting live, danielle miller, fox 10 news.
