a heartbreaking discovery in peoria tonight... a heartbreaking discovery in peoria earlier tonight. a weekend in a parked car at an apartment complex has died. >> and police say it appears the baby had been in the car for an extended period of time. danielle miller is live at the sce station with the latest on the investigation. hey, danielle. >> such a tragic incident that happened here in peoria. peoria police are still investigating exactly what happened. but they're telling us that this 5-month-old. boy could have possibly been in that car for several hours before he was found. they're telling us that two caretakers for that little boy were brought into custody. they're actually here right now at the peoria police department being questioned. >> we are just hearing people

the hot car for like three hours. >> peoria police responding to an apartment complex near 85th avenue and peoria around 2:45 this afternoon for a report of an infant not breathing. when they arrived they found a 5-month-old boy in an apartment. >> upon arrival the child was found to not be breathing. the child was transported in critical condition. it was pronounced deseized at the hospital -- deceased at the hospital. been left in the car for several hours. a man and woman who police say are caretakers were taken that custody for questioning. >> it was not the parents who were caring for the child at this time. >> and who initially found the child and also who called the police? >> i believe it was a combination of the neighbor and one of the caretakers had called us. >> it's devastating for a life to be taken at 5 months old. it's just so soon. >> just keep an eye on your

>> and we're thought sure at this time if charges will be filed against these two caretakers. also not sure the identity of this-month-old old little boy. if we get updated information, we'll pass it along. >> thanks, danielle. a wrong-way crash has closed loop 303 at northern. the crash involves a car and a motorcycle, we're told. adot says long delays are possible. drivers should considersi using loop 101. there is no estimated time to re-open the highway right now. no details of the -- about the crash or if there are any injuries. crews are still investigating right now. a hit-and-run investigation the maricopa county sheriff's office says a man was walking eastbound on paiche trail near 79th place when he was hit by a car. this happened at about 1:30 this

bones but is expected to recover. witnesses say the suspect's vehicle was possibly a small white hatchback. it may have damage to the passenger side. developing at 9:00, one of the four children injured in a car crash in phoenix has died. phoenix police say the driver of that truck slammed into them. that slammed into them appears to have been impaired. the driver is facing possible manslaughter chargers. marcy jones is here now with e good evening, marcy. >> good evening. this was just a horrific crash. a dodge pickup colliding with a ford ranger. now, according to police that ford truck was carrying three children in the bed of it. and one 2-year-old who was not in a car seat. tonight we know sadly that the 6-year-old boy has died. three others are fighting for their lives. >> it's too early in the event to even understand who was related, if they're friends or what. you know, the events sounding.

and they were all transported to level 1 hospital. >> phoenix fire and police units responded to a serious collision this morning on broadway and 40th street. first responders say four children and an adult were taken in critical condition. sadly, one 6-year-old boy passed away from his injuries. >> the police officers, they have their -- you know, they have a long process of going through the investigative portion of this and everything is taped off. so it's really hard to see and to going on. >> while the cause is still unknown, phoenix fire captain says it's a reminder that driving is such a huge responsibility, and especially to be cautious with young passengers. cautioning all to eliminate all distractions before getting behind the wheel. >> we see this stuff every day. and we care for our community so much, and that's why we're always championing the messaging of, you know, wear your seat belts, don't text and drive. pay attention.

and not saying any of these were a factor, but this is just stuff that happens often and it's a bad deal. >> thankfully there were a few good samaritans who helped the victims before crews arrived on scene. >> there was a group of people from the air force that were immediately on scene. and helped to extricate the occupants of the signed of that truck. so of the inside of that truck. so they did what they could to help those people get out of that truck. s are recommending -- police say investigators are recommending charges of aggravated assault and manslaughter for the driver of the truck. reporting live, marcy jones, fox 10 news. >> thanks, marcy. the search for a missing buckeye boy continued today in aven -- avondale. heights been nearly three months since jesse disappeared from his home. heavy rain delayed the search

but the searchers resumed this afternoon. volunteers include members of the arizona extreme terrain search and rescue. jesse's biological grandmother organized the effort. >> this particular terrain is actually -- it's actually not too bad. i would say it's probably maybe mild to moderate. the worst terrain so far that we've been in was up at jacobs lake searching for. gerald from last that was some really rough terrain. >> jesse was last seen on july 17th. police think he slipped out of his bedroom window. still unclear what happened to him after that. a man found dead in a mesa house fire has been identified as manuel garcia. the fire happened near broadway and val vista. witnesses say garcia was trying to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher.

the cause of the fire but they do not suspect foul play. families forced to leave their chandler homes due to a gas leak are back home tonight. more than a dozen homes were evacuated this neighborhood near mcclintock and the 202. fire crews respond to a call of a small bush that was burning. and it wouldn't go out when water was put on it. that's when they discovered they were actually dealing with a gas leak. people were allowed back into their homes this the monsoon ended on friday. but apparently nobody told mother nature. it was a wet and cloudy day for parts of the valley this sunday. and i felt like after a hot day on saturday, this kind of snuck in overnigh. >> it was perfect. >> this was the scene driving along i-17 this morning. you can see some standing water on the road. made for a bit of a tough commute for some drivers. take a look at this view from the west valley. more rain showers this morning and again this afternoon. a lot of wet streets, windshield wipers on.

hurricane matthew. it will continue to advance into the caribbean. looks like the main victim in this is going to be haiti. we're looking at a huge storm surge. right now winds over 100 miles an hour. over a foot of rain possible with this system. so i'll certainly be tracking this and looking at the effects on florida. we'll be talking about that later on in the show. >> thank you. the first bands of hurricane matthew flooded roads in jamaica and it's only going to get worse. >> hurricane warningsre for jamaica, haiti, and parts of cuba. that region braces for the powerful storm. the center for hurricane matthew could pass over the southwestern tip of haiti late tomorrow. then head toward cuba and the bahamas. people in florida and along the east coast are also keeping a close eye on this storm. in jamaica cars are already being stranded in flooded streets as inland waterways quickly overflow. look at that.

today's storms a good reminder that we're making our way into fall. tonight it's just gorgeous outside. a little bit sticky but the temperatures on the school side. 72 degrees at sky harbor. the winds about nine miles an hour. they were gustier earlier this afternoon. the valley pretty quiet. we're continuing to see the showers move to the north and east of us. certainly some scig gant rainfall total --ig our time lapse you'll see a decent bout of rain rolling through parts of southeastern arizona. earlier tonight as well. we had some pockets of moderate to heavy rain, tracking up into parts of show low and into northeastern arizona, spilling over into new mexico. the showers there as well. so we're tapping into some moisture off the california coastline. that made for the rain that we saw earlier. in addition to the muggy conditions out there tonight or

that we're seeing. on the front side of that system, the winds kicking up and the backside of that system nice cool air settling in over the state. speaking of winds, take a look at these max gusts from earlier today. gila bend, a gust at 47 miles an hour. gust at 35 in kingman. more than that for bullhead city and even some wents for window rock and st. johns. tonight gusty winds through northern arizona. kingman in the page, the grand canyon, and flagstaff gusts in the 20s tonight. upper 90s for winslow and saint johns. 69 for nogales and douglas 66. yuma 81 and here in the valley, 70s. but we are starting to see some 60s popping up on the map. apache junction, out into buckeye 73 degrees. same for goodyear and 73 for surprise as well. with that rain moving through,

temperature change, particularly right now through part of central and southwestern arizona. this is a comparison yesterday's temps to tonight and you'll notice pretty significant for a few cities on that map. today we came in well below the seasonal norm. 86 will is what we hit this afternoon. typical we're in the mid 90s. back in 1980, 107 degrees for the afternoon high. this storm system that's moving through parts of idaho and montana, we're going to se track that the northern plains tomorrow. we could see some severe thunderstorm activity through north and south dakota. gusty winds and hail as well. back to arizona, though, here's a look at the overnight temps. 50 in show low. 51 for payson. tomorrow our contour t colors aren't changing very much. we're going to see the nice conditions there tomorrow. 84 for safford. 67 for window rock and 61 degrees for flagstaff. so tonight a chance of
