>> he took a pretty big hit out there. >> reporter: 29-year-old joseph tanner was surfing near a state park yesterday afternoon when he was attacked by a shark. >> the injuries extended up from the ankle to the hip on the right leg. >> reporter: surfer jeff rose says he helped tanner when he came out of the water and the surfer knew what to do. he knew his blood type and he needed. we kept him active. >> reporter: rose met tanner before and says he is a strong man and a good surfer. >> he handled this so well. after emergency responders warned other surfers not to go back into the water. >> he was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. the attack is still under investigation.

i learned as a police officer and a businessman you should never abuse people's trust. unfortunately, today too many politicians either serve their party or themselves, and arizona families suffer. the arizona republic called paul babeu a disgrace. babeu spent $28,000 of taxpayer money at a five-star resort and was questioned by the fbi for using public money to promote himself.

thank you for joining us. first at 6:00, we have a fox 10 news alert in the east valley that's where traffic is really slowing down right now. it is causing quite a bit of problems for the evening commute at the loop 202 and loop 101. there was a vehicle on the eastbound onramp from the 202 and it burst into flames. firefighters were on the scene pretty quickly to put out the fire. no word you can see it looks like the s.u.v. was flipped around somehow going the wrong direction so maybe a collision of some sort. we're working to find out that information. we're not sure if anybody was hurt but it is causing quite a bit of problems out in the east valley. in ahwatukee, traffic is shut down where crews are investigating a deadly crash. sky fox over the scene.

the man behind the wheel died in the collision. chandler and marketplace are expected to be closed for several hours. federal prosecutors announce sheriff joe arpaio will face criminal contempt of court charges after his always failed to follow a judge's orders to end immigration profiling stops. this comes after arpaio is seeking a seventh term in office. this was >> reporter: marc, federal prosecutors will file a criminal complaint against the sheriff accusing him of contempt of court and that is going to happen by tomorrow. this officially begins the criminal proceedings against the sheriff and at the end of all of this, he could possibly land himself behind bars up to six months. sheriff joe arpaio was not in court at today's hearing but a
