there. however, within the next couple of years we should have a new system that should help detect dust storms. danielle miller is live with the story. >> reporter: as many people know there is no way to determine a dust storm is coming for drivers until unfortunately it actually hits the area. the good news here is that adot is trying to fix that problem. now it's the design phase of these new dust detection and warning systems and is it it's technology is being installed on the i-10 between eloy and picacho peak. this is where many accidents happen because of the dust storms. we have seen them there extremely dangerous. drivers cannot see anything in front of them. this new system will be able to detect a dust storm and alert drivers before it hits. adot saying that is extremely beneficial because instead of getting stranded on the highway when one of these dust storms hit, you will be able to bull

that early warning. adot will be installing new cameras, new message boards and variable speed limit signs. >> we are looking now at several different kinds of sensors. including sensors that are used in the middle east in the deserts over there. to try to find the exact right equipment for us that will pick up the presence of dust particles in the air and will measure the wind in the air and let us know of the possibility of a dust storm. part of what we will have here are variable speed lit 75 miles per hour in this area will slow it down from 75, 56 all the way down to 35 so that people can slow down and be safer. >> and all it this equipment and new technology is said to be up and fully operational in about two years now. adot sold us here today that they are looking for other locations along many other freeways to install this same exact technology in the near future. reporting live, danielle miller, "fox 10 news."

one-year-old boy has died after police say he drown at his buckeye home. crews were called out to the scene last night near watson and yuma. the boy died at the hospital. we were told that there is no pool in the back yard. so police are still investigating exactly how this drowning happened. new at 5:00 a tucson woman arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle meth through the port of nogales. border protection officer 16 pounds of meth under the center console of the 58-year-old woman's nissan sedan. the drugs are worth 50 grand on the streets. officers seized the drugs and the car and they turned the woman over to i.c.e. state of arizona has one of the highest population of black bears in the nation. and several recent bear sightings in the tucson area has hikers on high alert. anita roman has more.
