fox 5 news at 9:00 starts now. this is a fox >> a huge apartment complex under construction goes up in flames. this is a our phones in the newsroom were ringing off the hook. video also came pouring on to our facebok page, this video posted by derado gomez. you can see the flames at guadalupe and gilbert road. if you think this looks familiar, it's because back on november 23rd, an apartment

went up in flames. this time, a three alarm blaze. we are live there with stefania okolie. stefania? >> i can tell you things right now are a little bit more calm than what we were about an hour and a halving a. i'm standing right in front of an apartment complex where i'm told four buildings went up in flai flames. we'll go of the viewer video that we got into the fox 10 newsroom. we are told that the fire started just after 7:00. i'm told that nearly or more than a hundred firefighters, it took more than a hundred of them to get those flames down. and i'm told that two buildings were evacuated that are adjacent to the four buildings that caught on fire, so about 25-30 people were forced out of their homes. we spoke to the battalion chief just a little while ago. he says that this is really just

>> it is citizens in the area. it's obviously very damaging to them. in downtown, a very vibrant district right here. we have shut down downtown gilbert road for folks in every direction. we have got a lot of guys and gals out there working to isolate this, but so far no report of injuries. >> yeah, and the battalion chief is exactly right. this is such an unfortunate situation, even for the families who had to evacuate. a lot of them are out here without any shoes on. they had their pets, their dogs and cats in their backseat. i was speaking to a couple of families earlier who said that they could feel the heat, smell the smoke. they said it was very, very

firefighters got them out of their homes in time to evacuate. the good news is that no one is hurt. the four buildings that caught on fire are brand-new apartment buildings that are going up. gilbert road right now is shut from guadalupe to juniper. you want to avoid this area. in all the battalion chief tells me it will be quite some time before they reopen the roads. investigators here are trying to figure out what caused this very massive blaze. we'll another blaze for you coming up on fox 10 news at 10:00. >> okay, stefania, we'll check back with you in about an hour. thank. another news alert tonight, it appears that a 27-year-old man and two children will recover but what a traumatic accident for them. they were all hit by a car. police say the three were crossing the street near a

driver stopped immediately. officers say there were no apparent signs of impairment. phoenix fire crews were called to the scene of a gas leak earlier this afternoon. now, this happened over near northern road and 25th avenue. police blocked 27th avenue to the i-17 on northern in both directions east and west. now, no one was hurt, but a few businesses in the area had been forced to close. we spoke with those businesses who had to close. she described the scene. >> when phoenix fire walked in the east door and told us that w had to get out and get now, we just rushed to get the customers out, and that was that. i mean, we were out within a couple of minutes. >> no word yet if those stores were allowed to reopen tonight. we'll keep you updated as we learn more. today marked the opening day

park, dolphinaris, but it was met with some protests. >> dolphin free, az! >> dozens of people with signs protesting the dolphins captivity at that amusement park. there were two protests throughout the day, one that started at 9:00 in the morning to coincide with the amusement park's grand opening. the other started at 4:00 this afternoon. one protester says that she doesn't want kids to learn about these animals wle captivity. >> we would like to educate children in another way and adults and try to teach the kid to respect the environment, the earth, the ocean, everything that we have here to keep our world for our children. >> well, peta worked with local organizations to hold those protests today. a closer look at two luxury cars, and it's a big bust for the border patrol. agents say two women were

smuggle more than $100,000 worth of marijuana. agents say a narcotic detection dog found more than 200 pounds of pot hidden in a cadillac driven by a 22-year-old douglas woman. later, deputies found more than 33 pounds of marijuana in a gas tank. both women were taken to homeland security for further investigation. police are asking for your help finding r two different cases. let's start with a phoenix home that got robbed just last month. several items were stolen from the home, including the victims' credit cards. police say a man used those credit cards at a toys "r" us and at a walmart in avondale. officers say they are hoping to find this woman because she was with the suspect when she used those credit cards. >> the male suspect was the one using the credit cards, and we are trying to identify and locate them.

investigative lead in the video, and all that means is we believe she has information about the crime or who the male is. >> police say the man has a tattoo of a cross on his left arm and another tattoo on his right shoulder. on to yet another robbery in the valley. police this time looking for a man who they say robbed two convenience stores in the same area. they say this suspect robbed the circle k near 39th street and broadway two weeks ago, and then a week later polic guy robbed a circle k store near 39th street and broadway. according to police, the suspect has tattoos on his right biceps and the left side of his neck. if you have any information on these robberies, you're asked to call silent witness. more than 100 volunteers helped replace smoke alarms for people in need earlier this afternoon. now, this was all part of the smoke alarm walk. volunteers went throughout the

elementary school. that's at 15th avenue and buckeye road. they installed new smoke alarms with a ten-year sealed battery. that means they won't have to worry about replacing those arms for a long time. well, almost a year after it went up in flames, the buffalo chip saloon in carefree reopened its doors. take a look at the repaired restaurant after the original was destroyed last year. this new structure is connected to parts of the building that people from the community donated historic items for a wall of relics that was lost in the fire. on thanksgiving day last year, the restaurant caught fire and nearly burned to the ground. crews breaking ground today on the light rail extension that will see it go all the way to gilbert road. people were invited to attend the ground breaking ceremony and fall festival that was held to

another release from wikileaks today, and what appears to be transcripts of hillary clinton 's paid speeches to financial heavy weight goldman sachs. as of now, the clinton campaign has not authenticity of these transcripts. fox news reporter jennifer griffin has the latest. >> reporter: wikileaks uploads the 8th round of e-mails from hillary clinton campaign chair john podesta. according to wikileaks, it includes three paid speeches to goldman sachs back in 2013.

nice temps and all of this very dry weather over the last several days. you can see weather trying to bust into our world, across northern california and into oregon and washington, but no dice. this is a pretty strong high and it will stay in place the next couple of days. i don't think it will have enough punch to get through. mid-50s in flata in gila bend, and across the valley. our numbers all look terrific, mostly 70s out there now, sky harbor the warm spot at 85. we have got 79 out wickenburg way, and here's a look at your record book, typical high today 89, so we did a little bit worse than that, warmer temps than that this afternoon, but we'll get there eventually. sun rise tomorrow morning at 6:33 so let's go ahead and move

again, the worst weather is here, coming out of the gulf of alaska. this major storm has been really pounding folks here on the northwestern corner of the nation. winds gusting at times to as much as 100 miles an hour, steady winds in the 50-60 miles an hour range along the koe. this is a toughy, and there's still more to come. this is wave one. still more left offshore, all of this will be powering into the northwest, b enough punch to drop us down into the high pressure that's been keeping us so nice and clear. a quick look at your numbers, 71 at lake havasu city, 59 in kingman, about 40 or so in flagstaff, and 52 down in nogales and naco. tomorrow much like today, 90s in the deserts, 70s in the mountains, and we'll top out at about 67 or so degrees in flagstaff. here's the rest of the forecast as we push ourself through the

can remain anonymous. police also asking for the community's help in tracking down a suspect who stabbed and killed a man a year and a half ago. now, this happened at the road runner bar near black canyon highway and new river road. police say roman fernandez was stabbed and killed at the bar after a huge bar fight there. they say he was among those injured during the fight, but was able to make it to the parking lot before the family says they know somebody out there knows who killed fernandez. and they really want them to come forward and tell police. >> i wish that someone would come forward and tell us what they know because there were a lot of people there that night, and something tells me that somebody does know something. they are just afraid to talkment. >> if you have any information in this case, you're asked to call police. meanwhile, phoenix police have caught the suspect in a

last night. officers say 36-year-old robert pruitt was stabbed and killed near 19th avenue and peoria. police identified the suspect as 38-year-old olen coho. they say they arrested him earlier today. according to witnesses, coho cute pruitt with a knife after they got into some sort of argument. coho has been booked on second-degree murder. well, the guardian angels took to the streets to raise awareness for missing and domestic violence today. this group of volunteers held signs near 35th avenue and baseline earlier this afternoon. the signs called for people to honk their horns to show support for ending domestic violence. the group also wanted to bring awareness to missing persons and their families. one of the volunteers says there's still a lot of work left to be done when it comes to ending domestic violence. >> it's just domestic violence

united states, and something needs to be addressed, something needs to be prevented, and also the victims of domestic violence need to be supported. >> october marks domestic awareness month. police in prescott searching for this man, missing 66-year-old david. officers say he disappeared sometime this morning. police say they are worried about his well-being because he has dementia, heart problems, and he suffered a head injury he's about 5'6", weighs about 170 pounds. he was last seen wearing blue jeans and white shoes. if you think you have seen this man, his name is david, you are asked to call police. well, here's some sad and shocking news. former nfl linebacker quentin groves died in his sleep this weekend while visiting trinidad.

groves had two seasons in jacksonville before making stops in oak creek canyon, arizona, cleveland, tennessee, and buffalo. new video of the brutal assault of a chicago police officer who was trying to arrest a man high on pcp. it shows just what police are up against when deciding whether to use deadly force. fox's craig wall has the story. >> get down, get down on the ground! get down on the ground! >> officer veronica murillo didn't know it at the time, but 28-year-old parta huff was high on pcp when he crashed his car and walked away. >> ride him, ride him, ride him. >> get down on the ground, dude! get down on the ground! get down on the ground! >> as the officers struggled to get huff cuffed, he got a hold of murillo's hair.

fox 10 news is back. behold, the enactment of the battle of hastings. it's taking place in the uk this weekend. their reenactment taking place on the same field where the battle was fought in 1066. this year marks the 950th anniversary of the battle of hastings between england. it changed the course of english history. >> i've done archaeology at york. as soon as i got there, a reenactment was just available, so i went straight in. and it is also nice to just look nice like this and to follow in the footsteps of the people in the past, basically. >> last year, there were about 500 reenacters. tis year, it's well past 2000, and tickets to the event were
