fox 10 news at 10:00 starts now. this is a fox news alert. thanks for joining us. we do begin with that news alert, a massive fire tears through an under construction apartment complex. this is in gilbert. this viewer video shows just how fiercely, how hotly that fire was burning. now, this is the second fire that has erupted in an under-development apartment complex in that area in the past six months. this complex is located near guadalupe and gilbert roads. that is where fox 10's stefania okolie joins us live with the latest. stefania? >> reporter: well, yeah, linda, nearly three hours after this fire started, i can tell you crews are still hard at work here. we are in a plaza that's pretty much adjacent to where these

on fire. you can still see they have those aerials going, lots of water, about 1500 gallons of water being spewed about a minute right now. i can tell you within the last ten minutes, we have seen small fires still sparking in these buildings, a lot of smoldering going on, and the crews are still working from the outside because the structure is not safe for them to go inside. but i can tell you, this is a drastic -- it's drastically definite from what we initially saw. we'll go ahead and show you some video that was sen i fox 10 news room that shows these buildings in flames. again, the battalion chief tells me about four buildings caught on fire here. during that time, two buildings also near these apartment buildings also had to be evacuated due to the heat that was coming from this fire and a lot of smoke, about 25-30 people were forced out of their homes.

is going to be a total loss. they are working to get everyone out of the buildings surrounding this area. >> what we do in these cases is try to protect occupied territory, so the surrounding agencies. we have got businesses that are right up against these apartment buildings you see behind me that are still burning, in fact. we also have finished apartment adjacent to these that we really try to focus our efforts on. oftentimes that's where people are animals and belongings. the focus isn't always on the part that is burning but the adjoining areas. >> and unfortunately this is really unfortunate for everyone who lives in the area and these firefighters that have been here for three hours. when we got here, there were pets here, their pets and backseats, their cats and dogs, kids out here with no shoes. they are obviously very thankful that the firefighters got them

the fire that was spreading very quickly spread to these other buildings, but fortunately it did not. we know that gilbert is still shut down from guadalupe to juniper and some surrounding roads, so you want to avoid this area. as i said, the buildings are still smoldering. they still have three aerials up to fight the flames, and investigators still have to go in and find out what caused these the buildings are starting to collapse. we'll keep you updated, and you can look for another update on fox10phoenix.com. live in gilbert this evening, i'm stefania okolie, fox 10 news. thanks, stefania. a man and two young children were rushed to the hospital after being hit by a car in phoenix this evening. police say the 27-year-old man and an 8-year-old and two-year-old were crossing the

avenue when they were hit. thankfully all three are expected to recover and be okay. the driver did stop immediately. it's not clear what led to the accidents, but police say there are no signs of impairment. today, the dolphinaris aquarium in scottsdale opened its doors, dolphinaris has been called a next generation facility, offering visitors a hands-on experience with dolphins. however, the facility has been drawing some controversy. several protests have been held during t project. today, dozens of demonstrators turned up saying the mammals shouldn't be kept in captivity at this facility. two protests were held throughout the day. >> we would like to educate children in another way and adults and try to teach the kids to respect the environment, the earth, the ocean, everything that we have here to keep our world for our children. >> the company says the dolphins

they also say they are taken care of in a very good manner. on to a developing story, we are getting a look at the man accused of stabbing and killing a man in phoenix last night. officers say 38-year-old olen coho killed 36-year-old robin pruitt. this happened peoria. police say the two did know each other. coho has been booked on charges of second-degree murder. in the border battle, two women were arrested this week trying to smuggle nearly $125,000 worth of marijuana into the u.s. agents say a narcotics detection dog found 216 pounds of pot hidden in a cadillac that was being driven by a 22-year-old

of marijuana this the gas tank of a mercedes driven by a 34-year-old huachuca city woman. both were turned over to homeland security for further investigation. in a follow-up, family and friends gathered to remember the life of jess sixkiller, this as police continue to search for the person responsible for his murder. sixkiller was murdered in his me broke into his house and shot and killed him. he was the first native american on the chicago police force. friends from around the country flew to phoenix today to honor jess's memory, including mike gayle. he flew in from california. >> i came back to honor jess's memory and to comfort the family in some ways with some stories. some of them are pretty funny.

$1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. police are asking for help in catching a man they say robbed two convenience stores near 39th street and southern. according to police, the suspect held the employees at gunpoint. police are hoping that the public might recognize this guy. >> this particular suspect has a tattoo of someone's name on the left side of his neck and a tattoo on his right biceps, so memory, but the fact that he is hitting at the same time and the same location probably means he lives close to the area too. >> if you have any information on the circle k robberies or on the avondale robbery, you are urged to call silent witness. that number is 480-witness. up next, the lathe in the campaign for president, what donald trump wants hillary clinton to do before the next
