fox 10 news at 9:00 starts now. hello and thank you for joining us tonight. a wild road rage incident at a busy intersection near downtown phoenix. >> and witnesses say an angry driver pulled out a gun and fired, nearly missing a toddler that was in the other car. the story that features exclusive video you'll only see on fox 10 tonight. stefania? >> reporter: that's right, marc and kari, for someone to pull a gun and start shooting in this area, as you said, right on the corner of 7th avenue and mcdowell, such a popular area, especially around the lunchtime hours that it happened, they have to be pretty bold. as police said, this bullet came

was sitting in the victim's backseat. >> eyewitnesses who didn't want to show their face on crime describe the moments a man hopped out of his car and started shooting at another car. >> talking smack to the guy that was still driving away while he fired the second shot. >> reporter: our cameras were rolling as police a had the suspected shooter in the handcuffs, his expression much different than the blank stare he had after the shooting. witnesses say he was driving this veyo got into some sort of argument with another driver, then got out of his car and started shooting. the other driver sped off and called 911 shortly after. one of the bullets came through the back window and close to hitting his 18-month-old child. >> just careless people out here. >> she could have got hit, i could have got hit. >> reporter: two phoenix officers having lunch inside

>> the officers stepped out of the restaurant and arrested him. >> reporter: yeah, definitely something that no one who was in this area expected to unfold at the time that it did. now we reached out to veyo, which is a medical transportation company. they did give us a statement basically saying that they are aware that this incident happened and they are saddened by it. they also told us that they are working to identify the driver. at this point they said that their drivers undergo very extensive background checks and it is part of their policy no weapons are allowed inside of that car. police have not released the name of that suspect. of course when we get that update we'll be sure to let you know. reporting live in phoenix, i'm stefania okolie, fox 10 news. >> stefania, thanks, scary situation out there. and take a look at this video caught on camera. it's a dramatic police chase involving a tempe police officer and a burglary suspect on foot. the officers were responding to a call near mcclintock and

spotted someone else carrying two duffle bugs, and in the video you see the officer chasing the man, leaping over fences, through backyards before finally cornering the guy, getting him on the ground and we are told no one was hurt. two valley teenagers remembered, teens from the valley fairfax high scho tonight, marcy. >> reporter: absolutely heartbreaking, marc and kari, and we are here at st. joe's where the third person in that car, the only survivor in that car is recovering tonight. our thoughts and our prayers are with her. but earlier we were talking to some of the students and the families of these victims, and they just had the nicest things to say about these two young lives. it's so tragic that they were cut short.

silence, more than a hundred people came to remember two lives taken too soon. the family of yohana georges says after losing their precious 16-year-old, they are just taking things day by day. >> i haven't actually swallowed what really happened. i have just been busy with ptak arranging with the family. >> she, her twin sister, and a student, slater, were in an accident, killing yohana and her sister. >> both of them were well-known here, and they brought a lot of spirit to people, and mostly because they're going to bring prayers for her sister also. it's a good thing to see like our community coming together and just getting together to support what happened.

alert to tell you about right now, and this is a pretty serious situation. d.p.s. is investigating a bad crash involving two motorcycles. this is along the westbound lanes of the i-10 at the mini stack as you head on into downtown phoenix. now, traffic right now is down to one lane while they investigate, but we are just being told that a.d.o.t. has tweeted out that they are going to actually close the entire freeway here, again, the

heading into the mini stack into downtown phoenix. so heads-up, this is backed up all the way right now to 24th street. so you'll want to avoid that sretch of i-10 heading into phoenix. use the loop 202 or the i-17 for the time being. weather alert, dry, hot, very windy, terrible combination and those are the conditions right now in southern california that are bringing an extreme fire danger to that red flag warnings have been issued, firefighters on alert. the los angeles area has already seen dangerous fire activity, typical for this time of year, santa ana winds, several brush fires have broken out in the area, evacuating homes, and adding to the problem, temperatures forecast for near record levels for the next few days. your exclusive accuweather

fox 10 news. >> and here's the situation. that's that high-pressure system, the rotation around it, the santa ana winds, they come around, they go down into the mountain. that warms them up. they start fanning these fires here. it gets very, very windy, and it gets very, very warm as well. in fact, hot today, 98 degrees in los angeles. we are normally at this time of year it is 78 degrees. it's 83 here right now, winds out of the east at nine hour. we have 86 in scottsdale, 82 in chandler, in deer valley 86 degrees, 76 in surprise right now, so those temperatures coming down fairly nicely. as the other high starts to move along, the warm conditions will continue, but that will move off and we do see some change probably coming. we are thinking sunday, but maybe late sunday around the state we are going to see some active weather, but in the valley probably monday or tuesday. this is the futurecast. we have moved it up to saturday

anything until that time, and then you can see late saturday a little something by tuscon. and then look what happens sunday. it really starts taking off with that moisture all around, and then probably some for the valley by monday, maybe even late sunday. 97 degrees for the high today. we had 93 at buckeye, 95 at deer valley, and 95 in chandler, 79 at payson, 68 at show low and 64 at flagstaff, 93 today at yuma and 94 in tuscon. here's your day, 97 on the high, 63 on the low, 87 and 63 normal high and low, record high 103, record low at 40 degrees. now as we look at the forecast highs for tomorrow, about what they were today. we see mid-90s in the valley, some upper 90s in the surrounding areas. it will be some 70s and 80s across the mountains, those 90s and close to 100 degrees across our desert areas. looking across the country, snow and rain, windy conditions up in the northwest.

last night after cleaning the home accidentally left the door open. after a frantic search for hours, quintero took to social media asking for help. >> we received a phone call from facebook, a lady saying they saw the same dogs on the pictures over at 67th avenue and campbell. i didn't believe it. they said there was small truck came and dumped the dogs early in the morning between 7:00 and 9:00 a.m. and the lady asked them, why did they come and dump the dogs over there, and the person says it's not your business. >> the family went to the area today and luckily spotted wrinkles. >> when i saw my baby, i started calling wrinkles, and he didn't want to come closer to me. he was afraid. he was in shock. >> reporter: unfortunately,

after contacting animal care and control they said they had her but she was badly injured. quintero says cha-cha was hit by a car while running from people trying to get her to safety. >> right now cha-cha is with the really bad injuries on the head, and she's not able to stand up. >> reporter: and cha-cha also has a swollen eye and many bumps and bruises. she does have quite a long road to recovery ahead of luckily she is expected to make a full recovery and they are asking thin with information on this case to call police. reporting live, danielle miller, fox 10 news. >> thank you so much. i would have been devastated without him. >> this woman feeling so grateful to the phoenix firefighters who rescued her dog from a house fire. you're looking at the dog there. the flames sparked this morning, and dolly houser and her roommate grabbed two of their dogs and they got out but a third dog, carter, was stuck inside.

barely breathing inside. the crews grabbed the dog, and they grabbed the fido bag, as they call it, and were able to give the dog oxygen. >> you can tell the owner was distraught. any of us would be, over the dog. thinking we had the fido bag in the truck, i ran and got it, and with the assistance of 33 we got the oxygen on the dog's snout. >> carter, the dog, is expecte he's already in prison and she could be headed there too, an inmate and his wife accused of plotting to blow up a building in buckeye. police say she was sent articles from al qaeda magazine, found in his cell.

neighborhood are upset about a reentry facility for felons nearby. today the protesters marched on the state capitol and met with doug ducey to discuss the issue, saying the facility is simply too close to their homes and they want it to be somewhere else. >> take this and locate it somewhere else. there's no resources for these people all the way up on pinnacle peak and i-17. once they are graduated from the to go? they are just going through a 90-day program, which is a great program. it's just in the wrong location. >> the facility near pinnacle peak and the i-17 provides counseling, housing, and job services to felons just released from prison. an 18-year-old pleads not guilty to making an online threat against a high school in avondale one that he used to attend. police say the threat had a picture of a clown and a message that said students and teachers

hurt. alonzo vargas is his name. he was arrested a few days after that was posted. police say vargas told them it was just a joke and he didn't think anyone would take him seriously. if you think you had a tough day, this was actually very dangerous. a worker at the gila bend power station gets trapped while inspecting some damage on a transform transformer. the man got stuck inside the transformer right here in a place that was difficult for rescue there was a place where pipes had fallen and were blocking the way of rescuers getting to that man safely. after some very tricky maneuvering, firefighter were able to get to the man. they pulled him from the transformer safely. the rescue operation though took about three hours. >> it was a bit of a challenge. there was a lot of weight from the mechanism that had fallen and pinned him in there. it had to be lifted -- well, not so much lifted,but they wanted

the auto maker is not aware of any crashes or injuries because of the effect, but the company has received multiple reports of sunroofs detaching. dealers will make repair at no costs to customers. >> it seems workers calling out sick need to work harder on their excuses. a new survey finds that more than a third of employees admit calling out when they were just feeling fine. that's slightly lower than last year, and the same report also revealing some of the craziest excuses. one employee said sick but their llama was. another claimed they couldn't make it in because they were bowling the game of their life, and one worker just said they had better things to do. got to love it. well, nintendo is giving people something fun to do when they call out sick, the company unveiling a new game system called nintendo switch, expected to go on sale in march. and it's a september to remember for the housing market.

westbound lanes of the i-10 right at the mini stack. this is a live look from the a.d.o.t. camera. you can see the flashing police lights there, the backup stretching from the mini stack all the way back to near 24th street, and here is it a picture of the crash that was sent to us by the fire department out there tonight. you could see the bikes, three of them, across the highway. all three people we are told, two men and a woman, in serious condition. a fourth person was checked out at the scene but was not taken tohe it's still a mess out there as they investigate, and a.d.o.t. asks people to avoid that area as it's not clear exactly when that highway will reopen. thank you for joining us tonight at fox 10 news at 10:00. there was a terrifying situation today on valley streets after witnesses say a man hops out of his car and opens fire on another car with a toddler in the backseat after what appears to be an act of road rage. fox 10's stefania okolie was live at that scene earlier, and she spoke with people who saw
