>> fox 10 news at nine starts now. >> good evening everybody. thanks for joining us. the cleveland indians starting out the world series with a bang tonight, starting out by winning game one. people in cleveland and around the win tonight. joe maddon was on the world stage tonight. he credits growing up in pennsylvania molding him into the man he is today. >> i'm getting a lot of texts from cleveland cousins right now who are ecstatic with game one. but getting back to joe maddon, some of you may remember early

a small-town scholarship. hazelton, pa, which made him the man and the manager he is today. pennsylvania, a big part of joe maddon. >> i think more than i do. when you come from a small city you probably have a strong family background and strong parents. if you screw up in that town, somebody has the authority to grab you by the scruff of the neck and discipline you. you couldn't do anything wrong. wonderful people, very kind people. i'm reminded of that every time i go back home.

cleveland wins 6-nothing. more on the series later on in this broadcast. >> being a cubs fan is never easy. it's been over a hundred years since a team won a world series, 70 years since they played in one. >> the cubs making it to the world series, a big deal this year. it's a huge deal. that means everything to fans, especially fans who have waited their entire lives for this moment. christie joins us with a in the valley. >> a tough night for cubs fans. still some people hanging around enjoying a beer saying there is still hope, this is only game one, we're just getting going. a few hours ago, we joined a special cubs fan in his own home. he is a 75-year-old man, grew up in chicago, and he did everything he could to get into

that included selling scorecards, picking up seat cushions, and sometimes he just snuck in. today his childhood dream came true, watching the cubs walk onto the field for game one of the world series. >> i didn't think the curse was ever going to win. >> reporter: he said he started crying when his beloved cubs won the pennant on saturday. school just blocks away from wrigley field. >> we get out of 3 o'clock and i literally run to the ballpark. and they would be in the 3rd or 4th inning, and sometimes they would let me in. sometimes i had to sneak in. but i go in. i see the rest of the game. >> reporter: dan's daughter danielle and grandson jack

watching the game he -- her mom had to shut the windows. >> i laugh at him watching the game because he loves the cubs so much that he has a hard time watching them that he will pace. >> man, they're just standing there taking the pitches! >> reporter: he nervously watches his beloved team cautiously optimistic that the cu >> i had two things i wanted to see in my life. the rose bowl, and i saw that in 1999. and the cubs in the world series, and now i got that. so it's good. life is good. >> reporter: let's hope that he's feeling the same way tonight. watching his team after the first game, he is confident that

he said even if they don't, he's happy he got to see the team make it to the world series. >> there is still a lot of baseball. >> we're talking a sweep from here on out. all right. for those who didn't want to sit at home and watch the game. there were a number of cubs fans in town. they say this series is a dream come true for them and many of their extended families who are back home in ill >> i'm just totally excited. i wish my dad was here and my family was here to see this. you know, the ones who have gone. >> we've been facebooking and texting all throughout the playoffs. i live in tucson. i said i'm going to drive up. i drove up to watch game one of the world series with her. a little time for the indians fan.

chance to watch the world series at the ballpark. some sat out in the grass. >> it was gorgeous out tonight, as well. >> if you didn't make it out to goodyear tonight, don't worry. the ballpark will be hosting this throughout the world series. >> game two of the world series has been moved up an hour tomorrow because of the threat of rain in cleveland. it will again at 4:08 p.m. instead. >> mark it down. dave muncee joins us for a look at tomorrow's weather in cleveland. there was some worry about what would happen. >> the forecast has a lot of rain in it. and the percentages go up as the game goes on. there is a storm kind of moving into the area. here's cleveland right here. you saw the storm coming out of minneapolis at this time. as we get a look at what's going on as far as they changed that,

daylight time. 15% chance of rain at the beginning of the game. by the time the game ends, there's going to be about a 70% chance of rain. so that's what they're a little worried about there. they got a break tonight. they had a little chance of rain, but nothing really materialized. tomorrow, going to be a lot of moisture in the area. we'll have more weather coming up. new tonight at nine, dozens of campaign signs stolen from around peoria. the crooks caught on camera, but not by police. >> these signs promoting a local proposition that will be on the ballot in november. the signs being stolen is costing the campaign a lot of money and manpower. it's a serious crime, isn't it? >> reporter: absolutely. it's for prop 400.

raise money for public parks and city streets. it would also go towards adding more police officers and firefighters. supporters of the prop say since early voting started, dozens of signs have gone missing. they tried to find out who is behind it. >> it got frustrating so we decided to form our own little sting operation, and maybe it worked out. >> reporter: over the last few weeks have gone missing. >> they're just in this community. i think in the city of peoria we've had about 50 prop 400 signs go missing. >> john, who put upmost of the signs got so fed up, he decided to set up several game cameras throughout the city to catch the person or persons responsible. on friday he set up a sign and within hours one of those cameras caught this person taking it.

damaging the signs and ducking when a car drives by. >> it shows you what kind of people we're dealing with. whether they believe in the prop 400 or not. do your research and you come up with you don't support it, that's your opinion. vote no. that's okay. but don't go around breaking the law. >> reporter: damaging, defacing, our stealing a campaign s in fact breaking the law. attorney patrick cunningham says it's a class two misdemeanor, but it could be another offense. >> if you steal enough of them, then there is a criminal damage statute, which is a felony. >> reporter: we're told these signs can cost upwards of $50 each, but that is not including the manpower it takes to put them up.

imagine how you could ever move forward and create something lasting and beautiful and kind. using bells, a tucson mom did that in loving memory of her son ben. he died suddenly from a viral infection in 2002. he was just two years old. as ben's family grieved in the darkest of places, ben'som noticed something, the kindness of strangers. >> they were surprised by how kind the things that strangers were doing for them, as well. >> the ben's bells project was created in their tucson garage where jenette would craft small, colorful ceramic bells, launching a movement in honor of her son amovement with a stunningly simple message. >> it's all about spreading kindness, building communities

intentional kindness. so really taking those moments to make an effort to be kind in your daily interactions. >> reporter: what began in tucson 14 years ago has now spread. there are two ben's bells projects studios in tucson. one in connecticut and one in phoenix. this 500-square foot building in volunteers to help paint and assemble the bells. some bells are sold in the studio, along with other trinkets, spreading the message, be kind. volunteers then take some of the bells and hang them in random spots around the valley. bus grounds, parks, hiking trails. if you see one you're encouraged to take it. it's yours. >> it has a message that will says you found a ben's bell.

spread kindness. >> reporter: one of the many volunteers who helps to paint and distribute ben's bells, kathy, she has made it a family affair. >> i've taken my grandchildren out with me to hang the bells. they've come in and painted. it kind of spreads the whole idea of kindness. >> she agrees that right now many people are living at a fever pitch and so many voices seam loud and angry, but she communities closer and stronger one kind gesture at a time. >> and it can be just opening a door or, you know, picking up somebody's books that fell. but if you stop and think about the nice things you do for people, and people do for you, it becomes a much nicer world. >> reporter: linda williams, fox 10 news. >> boy, the world needs that right now, doesn't it?

trash on the ground. >> the man who found the information say this is a breach of patient privacy. >> reporter: a man took this video of the sensitive information he spotted in the trash across the street from horizon thc, a medical marijuana dispensary in downtown phoenix. >> there was a bunch of sensitive id numbers, what kind of meds they get. >> reporter: he alerted the dispensary. he said a couple of employees went out to collect the items. >> he didn't really seem like he cared too much about it. these are people's lives that have their information. and if it gets in the wrong hands, it could be very detrimental. i don't know how many days it's been out here until i came across it. >> a man at the dispensary has

breaking into their trash bins. they ordered a special ben i. -- bin. >> if they're not shredding it, how many other times has this happened before? >> the attorney for the dispensary says it's policy to shred information before it's thrown out. >> he's been called the toughest sheriff in america, but he could be sent to jail. joe arpaio, charged with criminal contempt of court. ordered to stop his immigration raids back in 2011, but he didn't. he defied the order and now it could land him behind bars. now the sheriff says these charges from the justice department are politically motivated. and today his campaign issued the statement says the

30 days before the election are further attempts to sabotage his attempt for a 7th unprecedented term as maricopa county sheriff. he says it's evidence of a corrupted administration. he could face up to 6 months in jail if convicted. an award has been raised to $6,000 leading to the arr the person who killed a wild horse and mutilated it. the foul was just six months old when it was shot and murdered. at least two other wild horses were wounded. if you have any other information on this case, you're asked to call the maricopa county sheriff's office. new renovations at sky
