kept on going. it's not clear if the driver even knew what happened here. witnesses say it was a white semi-truck with a red flatbed trailer. anyone with information is being asked to call police. they would like to talk to that driver. that road will be closed for several hours tonight. again, 43rd avenue and grand. another big story in the valley tonight, a man arrested after he posted a link on social media that would ghost call 911 over and over again whenever somebody clicked on it. well, that cyber attack nearly crashed the 911 phoenix, dispatch centers in other states were also reporting similar problems. stefania okolie is live at the fourth avenue jail tonight with more on the stunt that really could have put people in danger. stefania? >> yeah, exactly, mark, an 18-year-old suspect who police say created this bug which was the link that forced the calls to 911 said it was a prank. as you know, 911 service calls, it's very serious. it's potentially lifesaving, which is why investigators are

all. >> with the simple touch of a link on twitter, maricopa county calling 911 with no control over it. this was the man behind the prank, 18-year-old desai. a 911 dispatch center in surprise started receiving hundreds of 911 hang-up calls. michelle bush is a 911 operator. >> we have a board that us for 911. it was ongoing, nonstop. >> hundreds of people say they clicked a link that was being shared on twitter. that link was traced back to desai's twitter account, as well as his website. >> when they clicked, it put a bug into their phone, actually causing their phone to automatically dispatch, call 911. >> it kind of looked like a youtube video, so i clicked on it, and all of a sudden -- it

my phone just went black. it started calling 911 and wouldn't stop. >> desai says he created the bug but did not mean to push it out on twitter. he says he created a separate bug, one that was funny and did not create the force calls to 911 services sxand meant to pus out that one. >> it was a big stress because somebody could be needing an actual emergency. >> and we should mention that desai told the cyber detectives that creating these bugs would get him more recognition or cool points in the cyber hacking community. he is now facing very serious charges. we are talking three felonies for computer tampering. as you said earlier mark, we know that other agencies across the country dealt with the same

same bug. live in phoenix this evening, stefania okolie, fox 10 news. >> all right, stefania, thank you for that. a man is behind bars after police say he kidnapped a couple from their phoenix home and then demanded money from them. officers say tony jackson forced that couple into a car, drove a short distance, and then let the woman out, demanded she get cash or he would have h killed. authorities were able to arrest jackson and arrested him without incident. the man was unharmed. leslie merritt, jr. back in headlines again. he was the man once charged in the i-10 freeway shooting and he is now back behind bars. he was arrested by glendale police accused of violating a domestic protection order and also making threats towards a woman. merritt spent seven months in jail last year, accused in several freeway shootings.

over questions about the reward now up to $6,000. detectives say on october 21st, a man wearing black shorts and a dark green shirt shot three foal at pirate's island near the pebble beach recreation one of the foals was killed. if you have any information, call the maricopa county sheriff's office. tuscon police released video of an officer-involved shooting that happened on monday, and this is one where a bullet grazed an officer's head. >> shots fired, shot fired, shots fired! >> well, you see the video, and you hear the bullets being

special operation when they saw a 33-year-old man on a motorized bike breaking traffic laws on monday. officers tried to pull him over, but he dropped his bike and took off. at some point he exchanged gunfire with officers. the video shows an officer laying in the middle of the road. he was grazed on the side of his head. he is going to be fine. della times but is in stable condition. >> 48 pounds of marijuana found in a car stopped at a checkpoint just east of yuma when agents say a canine alerted them. the driver was in the u.s. illegally and had previously been deported. well, if you are outside today, you know it was a record setting day here in the valley. today was the latest 100-degree day recorded in history in

halloween right now. we set up a small experiment today. we wanted to see how long candy would last before it would melt out in the blistering sun. we streamed this live, by the way, and we had a lot of people watching itment more than 2000 people watched live on our facebook page. people were debating whether the reese's or the hershey's kisses would be the first to melt. in the heat, it can feel great for people out and about to get we headed out to fear farm tonight where people are braving the heat for some frights. danielle, i saw you got quite a scare at the end of the 9:00. hopefully you're all safe now. >> i hope so. i'm going to have to check my surroundings here marc to make sure that nobody is behind me. it's not that bad out here right now, but as you can imagine, earlier today, people dressed up in costumes with masks and sweatshirts and things like

again. we did set a record again today. let's get over to dave to find out if the heat will stick around. >> we are going to get a little break here from the warm temperatures, but today has been quite a day as far as temperatures and weather in phoenix goes. as we get a look at what's going on here, the sunshine was shining, it is the latest 100-degree temp ever, october 23rd, 2003, the october date. as we look at the record, 100 today, the 99th time that we have hit 100 degrees or better in 2016. the old record, 98, that in 2001. looking to the future, looking to the weekend, friday, 92 with a few clouds, sunny on saturday, and 92. 90 on sunday as it stays in the 90s, but don't forget halloween on monday. and what's happening then?

this is really needed rain right here. you see how it gets into the states. it's not getting into southern california, but it is getting into the los angeles area and north of there and kind of feeding up into the northwest as well. this is a hurricane falling apart, seymour, kind of falling apart, sending its cloud cover into arizona sending is its moisture into california. so we get the cloud cover over here is what we get. 100 degrees on the high today, 93 in buckeye, we had 96 degrees in deer valley. 70 in flagstaff, 86 in sedona, 93 at gila bend today. as we look at our numbers, 100 on the high, 70 on the low, 84 and 60 would be the thoroughly high and low. there's your record high at 90, record low at 39. temperatures forecasting today, you see 92 at sky harbor, mid

live from fox studios, fox 10 news is back. >> a female astronaut making history again by being chosen to command an international space station mission for a second time. veteran astronaut peggy witson and her crew will take off on the 15th. while there, she will serve as commander until february. she talked about the historic mi >> i actually think it's just a coincidence that i happen to be the first one to command twice, but what i do think is important is that our young ladies continue to expand their roles in different areas of scientific research. >> witson made history back in 2007 when she became the first woman to ever command the station. some big technology news today, first, google will open a hub for its self-driving cars here in the valley, in chandler.
