we'll explain. and a lot of kids are out there right now trick or treating, keeping them safe is a top priority. we'll tell you what members of law enforcement are doing this halloween. thank you for joining us tonight, parents of course out keeping a close eye on their kids as they have been doing the one thing they have been told not to do, taking candy from strangers. some of those strangers could be predators. danielle miller rode along live with operation safe treat. >> there were thousands of children out here trick or treating. right now it's pretty quiet out here. while all of these kids were trick or treating, as you mentioned, marc, the u.s. marshals service was going around knocking on sex offender's doors making sure they are complying. thousands of kids from around the valley are trick or treating, showing off costumes, cashing in on candy.

about trick or treating? >> to get free candy. >> to get candy. >> hi, cutie. >> i'm bat girl! >> you're bat girl? >> yeah. >> you are so cute. show us your costume. show the camera. >> reporter: while these kids are having fun, the u.s. marshals service is making sure they stay safe, all part of an operation called safe treat, six teams of probation officerses and u.s. marshals going around, knocking on the rik sex offenders. >> we are checking for compliance making sure they are doing what they are supposed to. individuals who are on probation have been told that they can't have their opens at their house, lights on. they can't be answering the door. they can't be contacting children, things like that. so we are going to go out and

that they are following the rules. >> reporter: and marc, tonight's operation was strictly compliance, but throughout the entire month they have been doing operations just like this. now, that was more for enforcement. that was for fugitive sex offenders as well as child predators with outstanding warrants. the good news here throughout the entire month, there were 73 arrests made and also 84 warrants that were cleared. reporting live, danielle miller, fox 10 news. >> the about some of the rules that the sex offenders have to follow. do they typically comply with these, or what's the rate of that? >> he was telling me that typically for the most part the sex offenders are complying with those rules. but here is the deal. these people go into the sex offenders' homes, and if any other type of illegal activity, any type of drug activity, anything like that, they will

complying. >> danielle, thank you very much for us tonight. law enforcement are also trying to keep our street safe with a multiagency dui task force. those checkpoints went up around the valley earlier this evening and will be in force throughout the night. a winslow officer who shot and killed a woman outside a shipley says the native american woman was posing a threat at the time. activists protested that shooting, saying it was excessive. chandler police tell us they have an arsonist on their hands. officers say somebody intentionally set two homes on fire over the weekend. preparations are under way

a.d.o.t. is removing more than a thousand trees, plants, and cacti, which will be stored at a nursery nearby while under construction, and then they will be transplanted. it the freeway is scheduled to be opened in 2019. a suit filed in federal court in phoenix today, it wants the g.o.p. poll watchers not to harass people. arizona's republican party says it's sending registered observers to silently watch the voting but that is legal. >> i don't think it will go anywhere. i mean, the relief they request is extreme in terms of what they would ask the court to do, to basically tell people not to do

getting people out of the plane during an emergency requires more flight crew training but it also comes with a price. kristy siefkin explains. >> panicked passengers struggling to exit this american airlines plane. the right engine went up in flames on friday on the chicago o'hare tarmac. >> oh, my god! >> this emergency exit delayed by passengers reaching for their bags and taking video on cell phones. andy hershman is the former director of inflight services for northwest airlines. he says that flight attendats can only do so much to force passengers to exit. >> they should have been shouting the command to leave everything. they are not going to become cops and knock bags out of people's hands. >> going by the book, all passengers should be able to deplane in an emergency in 90 seconds. but in a recent article, airline experts said it really takes

fox 10 news is back. a 62-year-old drug smuggler gets creative. border agents say he tried to bring meth packed in hollowed out tortillas. you see the pictures there. a man was walking into nogales, arizona, when a canine smelled more than the tortillas he was carrying. agents seize the drugs and turned the man over to i.c.e. mcdonald's agreed to pay $3.5 million in a federal lawsuit alleging that workers were cheated out of overtime. the lawsuit came out of a san francisco mcdonald's franchise. mcdonald's says they reached that settlement to avoid

in mesa, 75 in chandler as well, so a beautiful evening out there, a little bit of moisture that we are seeing. you can see right here, a little low-pressure system kind of moving into the west, and it's pushing moisture through that whole area. a little bit of cloud cover down here is all that's picking up at this time. now, we have the futurecast moving here. we are going to take it right through wednesday, and then look at what happens early thursday, big batch of mois into motion again, get into late thursday, and it's getting awfully close to the phoenix area right here, a little chance of rain early thursday friday. 86 the high today, 82 in glendale. we had another 82 in buckeye, 83 at scottsdale, and out at gateway it was at 82 as well.

in sedona, grand canyon at 55 degrees, 86 for our high, 68 for the low. 83 and 59 would be the normal high and low. there's your record high at 96, your record low at 36. other numbers that we have are the forecast highs. yeah, we are in the 70s on a couple of those, not all of them. we get right down to 80 or the low 80s, 76 up in cave creek. so those numbers are starting to come down a little bit. 57 at flagstaff for tomorrow, 70 in sedona, and some nice looking low 80s all across our desert floor. looking across the country, some snow and pretty good snow, over ten inches, almost a foot in some areas of the northwest. very good windy conditions with wind gusts almost at 80 miles an hour. it is mild in the lower great lakes, almost chilly in the great lakes, and then warm as far as the southern states are
