what a night. cubs fans rejoicing, facing elimination in game six. cubbies survive and they beat the cleveland indians pretty badly tonight. >> the indians have not won a world series since 1948. the cubs haven't won one 1908 so something has to give tomorrow night. these are live pictures outside of the stadium. people heading home disappointed, obviously, cleveland fans. cubs fans are breathing a sigh of relief. >> and that includes the cubs imaginer and there is a unique connection between maddon and bruce arians. it was a connection that formed

a disappointing night for indians' fans. they had an opportunity to win the whole thing tonight. >> they had an opportunity in six and seven and five. we caught up with cleveland fans switching the game, watching it thousands of miles from home here in arizona. danielle miller live in scottsdale tonight. the cubs fans are getting all of the attention but plenty of indian fans, too. >> reporter: absolutely and a rough night for the cleveland indians who were celebrating and watching the game at boon docks. they were hoping to walk out of here as champions but that did not happen. they believe that they are the underdogs and cleveland indians fans are far and few in between.

and more news and sports. october was one for the record books and not in a good way. >> mother nature turning up the heat on arizona. dave munsey joining us to explain. >> reporter: we did get a little more heat than we were expecting. the sun was shining. the average temperature was 81 degrees. the average high was 93.4. the average it was the third warmest october that we have ever had. if you get a look at it here, you can see the temperatures coming down into the seasonal norm type at this time of year. mid 80's in tucson. we do see 50's and 60's as far as the mountains are concerned. now, as far as the national is concerned, it was the 10th warmest october.

62.7. mid 80's in st. louis and memphis and upper 80's down in dallas. we're dealing with a little bit. the edges are coming off, however. as you can see, the coastal areas, 60's and 70's and we head to the west with 50's showing up out here. this stuff slowly going away but it was a warm up. >> thank you, dave. we have a fox 10 news alert out of south phoenix where a busy intersection is shut down after a two-car crash that injured four people, including two children and a pregnant woman. this is 24th street and baseline. there the quite a police and emergency vehicle presence there. it happened just after 7:00 tonight. >> one of the cars caught fire.

were taken to the hospital. it does not appear that speed or impairment played a role in the crash. the intersection will be closed throughout the evening. another wrong-way driver slams into a car going in the wrong direction. both drivers killed. >> that crash shut down the loop 101 at i-17 for more than five hours this morning. we're learning more about the crash and what is being done t hopefully prevent the wrong-way crashes in the future. >> this has been an ongoing problem in the valley. reporter: this is not a new issue here in the valley. the issue seems simple, how do you prevent drivers from going down the wrong ramp on the freeway? that question doesn't have simple answers tonight.

familiar question about stopping the impossible. >> what can you do in that situation? i can't think of anything myself. >> reporter: under the influence and driving a car before heading down the wrong way on the freeway and almost certain disaster awaits. >> the battle against the impaired driver is a challenging problem. >> reporter: adot says they continue to work on technology that will use the sensors in the roadway to alert authoriti about wrong-way drivers. >> it will help with the response in law enforcement. hopefully, officers can get there sooner and be able to warn other drivers as quickly as possible. >> maybe the spikes or something like that that might prevent some kind of a device to keep people from going that way. >> reporter: that is a question they get a lot but research says they don't work. >> they are not meant and they

on a offramp. they break off and can damage other vehicles. >> reporter: staying alert on the roadway at that hour might mistake a difference. >> i would scan the road and i look for people with their headlights off and i look for wrong-way drivers, especially on the freeways. >> if you're out there in the middle of the night on the freeway, it is time to think about using the center to right lanes. wrong-way drivers tend to use the left lane. they think they are on the right side. >> reporter: as we're back here live, you see adot helping a driver off of the roadway, drivers think they are on the right-side of the road so it makes sense. since 2014, adot has done its best to add wrong way signs and

they are helping but there is only so much they can do. phoenix police and federal agents along the u.s. postal inspector served a search warrant on all high end, upscale home in ahwatukee. a dozen teenagers living there, possibly against their will. the investigation began as some sort of a mail fraud investigation. more than 12 children of african descent were living at the home, possibly being used for door-to-door sales. he called it a human trafficking case but later he recanted that statement saying it is unconfirmed. it is unclear what kind of investigation is underway at this point. >> you hear this is happening all over the place but it is

neighborhood. >> at last report, no arrests have been made. we'll bring you the latest information as we work this story. a man caught on camera breaking through a mcdonald's drive-thru window. it happened in tucson. the man pointed a gun at the clerk before using the gun to smash in the window. he reached in through the broken window and took off. he was last seen driving away. police are still looking at him tonight. a fox follow-up on these guys. taken from the arizona animal welfare league. they are back at the shelter and are safe and sound. they were stolen from the league's main shelter near 40th street and washington. surveillance video capturing the thieves in action. look how much happier they look now they are back home. the league says today, someone walked in their clinic and

the families of the victims. >> that call is one of the many examples that dispatchers has one of the toughest jobs. >> dispatchers will tell you that no call is ever the same and certain calls are better than the. >> there is a place they can go and decompress. >> reporter: it takes a special person to do this job. we know that from some of the calls we have heard. any given day the 911 dispatchers take calls involving child drownings, burglaries in progress, or sometimes officers they know shot in the line of duty. they have to make split-second decisions to get people the help they need. what happens when they take

very stressful. a lot of people that work in here have kids and they kind of relate it to their own kids. >> reporter: mcso's new headquarters was built with the latest equipment but there is one room where sip policety is key. it is called the tranquility room. it is sparse. a couch, chair, a balcony to get fresh air. with each dispatcher handling 150 calls per shift, it is important to have a place to decompress. >> we work nonstop calls and a lot of us work extra shifts so it is nice that we can come in here and take a breather. >> reporter: johnson says one of the hardest things for dispatchers is they don't know the outcome of a call, which is sometimes matters of life or death.

my brother, they just shot him. >> he just got to the house, ma'am? >> yes, hurry, please. >> ma'am, did you see the person that shot him? >> no, he just drove up to our house right now and he fell in our driveway. >> i think the worst for us is not knowing how the call ends. we don't get to sometimes follow up with the deputy on what happened so sometimes we leave here kind of stressed out. room does not get used that often but sitcom -- it is comforting knowing it is there for them. >> some people come in here and hide from everybody. >> these people are saints marc. >> reporter: it is amazing the calls they take and, again, we were talking about this to go to the next one right after you handle one. the room is there if they need to.

the worst part is not know the outcome. you don't get that final outcome. >> sometimes we do have a story where they are reunited with the victim they helped but they are not always able to learn that. >> reporter: she says that is rare. they will reach out to the deputies and ask how that turned out. >> do they seek out the break room or is it a co-worker that says you need to take a break? >> supervisor. the rule is if you need the room, go and someone will take over the calls. if she sees someone needs the room, they will tell them to go. they didn't get the treats a group of kids attacked by guys with paintball guns and it left a big mark.

surprise, 66 degrees. 65 in apache junction. 71 in mesa. as we get you a look, you can see a little something happening as far as the state is concerned. a little moisture finding its way in here. there is enough to go down and take a look at. nothing happening around phoenix. north of flagstaff, you can see a little bit of snow in there around the grand canyon as well. things are cooling off up north. we motion and you can see what happens thursday early in the morning. here is phoenix right here. the moisture comes in through the day. we were still in the morning and getting into phoenix a little after noon about 1:00 in the afternoon. it backs off and tries to make a couple more approaches here. we will keep an eye on that. that is going to be thursday into friday.

gateway had a 79. we look at 65 in prescott. 66 in payson. 56 up in the flagstaff area. 85 in tucson. 81 down on the desert floor in a couple of different places. 82 degrees here. 66 for the overnight low. 82 is where we should be as far as our high. 58 is where we would be on the normal low. 96 and 37 would be the record looking a the forecast high, about like today. we'll be looking at 81, 82, 83 and some 70's in that forecast up in cave creek. other numbers we have in the feast -- forecast, 81 at gila bend. 79 at tucson. 70 at st. johns. looking across the country, we get a mixed bag.

montana picking up a little bit of the snow. the rest of the country looking pretty good. it is still warm with temperatures in the 80's finding their way in. more snow may invade the northeast. it is mostly just rain at this time. there is snow in the area. this is what i was talking about, the big batch of 80's still hanging on. 88 degrees in dallas. 85 in memphis on the of november that is a warming trend. 70 in denver. 50's and 60's in the northwest. overnight and tomorrow morning, 57 degrees. 81 degrees for tomorrow. as we get you a look at it here, you will see the 80's will be hanging on for a while for a few days with the 10-day forecast. lower 80's and mid 80's mixing it up. watch your kids around water. >> thank you, dave. >> just a reminder, you can
