chilling details about a self-confessed killer. recently taken into custody in south carolina, todd kohlhepp was arrested after a missing woman was found chained inside a metal shipping container. his criminal history began here in arizona back in the 1980's. he was convicted of raping a 14-year-old girl at that nicole garcia spoke with the attorney who represented kohlhepp back in that time. she joins us live now. >> reporter: in 1987, when todd kohlhepp attended mcclintock high school, he admitted to kidnapping his neighbor and raping her. his former attorney remembers him as a deeply disturbed and troubled individual. 45-year-old todd kohlhepp was convicted for rape in 1987. now, he is a suspected serial

a long history of mental illness showing violent impulses since nursery school hitting other kids and killing a goldfish with clorox. at 15, he held his neighbor at gunpoint, put tape over her mouth and raped her. the victim's parents still live in the same home. the former attorney agonized over the details of this case. value of life. the little girl was lucky. he could have shot her. >> reporter: a valley psychiatrist diagnosed kohlhepp saying he had issues and

in the end, kohlhepp took a plea deal and served a 15 year prison sentence for sexual assault. >> you know you have someone who is really ill, really sick, but you also know if the prosecution wants to put him in prison, there is no help there. >> reporter: for what he remembers, kohlhepp's former attorney says the teenager was stoic, showed no remorse for his what he did back then. now, he is suspected of at least seven murders. authorities in south carolina have similar descriptions saying he confessed to four murders and showed authorities where to find the bodies. i'm nicole garcia, fox 10 news. new tonight at 5:00, police need your help finding this man, 23-year-old adam leap. he is charged with sexual exploitation of a minor with multiple potential victims

he was arrested back in march. he bonded out of jail last month but cut his ankle monitor and has disappeared. if you know where he is, call tempe police. one person killed in a three-vehicle crash on the loop 101. happened this morning at 67th avenue. traffic backed up for several miles and it was back to union hills. it has since reopened but it in mesa, a motorcyclist killed in a crash on the us-60. a man in his 60's collided with a van and run over by a large vehicle pulling the trailer. investigators are trying to find the second driver involved. most of the lanes were shut down but they are back open tonight. here we go.

remains the same, always watch your kids around water. a valley family dealing with an unthinkable tragedy after their 4-year-old drowns in a pool. linda williams is live with the story. >> reporter: what a tragedy, kari. saturday morning, this little boy and his sibling were exploring the house and he found a way to climb out of the window leading to the back 4-year-old richard wilkin was home with his dad and older sibling. the little boy managed to open a window inside his east mesa home and climb outside to the backyard. >> there was a couple of people home at the time. dad may or may not have been on the couch, perhaps taking a nap when the little person got out.

first tonight at six first tonight at 6:00, a 15-year-old boy is under arrest accused of sexually assaulting a woman inside her home. police tell us that teenager had a weapon early this morning. yesterday morning that is, when he went into the house where she was sleeping. she woke up to find the teen standing over her bed. he was wearing black clothing with a black cloth over his face. a neighbor called 911 to report a burglary at a secon apartment. officers captured the teenager after he was seen looking through windows of a home. the teen had gotten into several homes by cutting the screens and opening their windows. investigators are asking anyone who may be a victim to come forward. phoenix police are investigating a deadly motorcycle crash. they say a man on a motorcycle hit the back of a car at third street and osborn in phoenix. that man died in the collision. officers are investigating how
