the right time to get involved in politics. both the democrats and republicans were burning up the phone lines today, making hundreds of thousands of phone calls statewide. >> get out and vote tomorrow. get there early. thank you. >> reporter: when you are talking to them, what are some of the things that you have been hearing? >> a lot of them are saying they have already voted. >> so that's really good for us, but at the same time people want to know how they can help, how they can be useful, so we are bring in everybody they can to make those calls or even to go out in their neighborhood and knock on doors. >> yes on 205! >> reporter: and from phone calls to fancy foot work, the group regulate arizona was pounding the pavement with just hours to go. >> we are fighting for every last minute that we have got. we all received the phone call from doug ducey saying vote no on 205, and we are saying, yes,

>> we want arizona to be more competitive, and i think it only bodes well for citizens, that it is competitive, that it is a battleground state. we have these campaigns going on and they are more connected to the people of arizona. . >> reporter: now, they were all busy making phone calls today. the republicans say they made upwards of 150,000 phone calls. the democrats say they made as many as 200,000 phone calls, and these numbers are statewide. now, for the democrats the hopes are that if hispanics come out in droves that this in 20 years. we might find that answer tomorrow night. marc? >> matt, thanks. you mentioned the phone calls but they also knocked on a lot of doors today. any numbers on that as far as how many people they reached face-to-face? >> well, it was busy back and forth on both sides, but the democrats they had a little more hard numbers saying that they had a chance to go quite possibly to 40,000 front doors. not everyone is going to answer those knocks at the front door,

much ground swell, and as you saw in the piece there, there were a lot of people out and about tonight with only eight hours before the polls open on election day. >> thanks, matt. it's a decision made for a lot of voters this election. more than 1 million people in maricopa county have already turned in their ballots. if you plan on casting your ballot tomorrow or if you forgot to mail in an early ballot, there are some things that you need to know. if you are just dropping early ballot, any polling place will do. but if you are planning on casting your early ballot tomorrow -- >> you got a sample ballot in the mail that showed you your location, where you were supposed to go. it shows you a map to that location, and all of the criteria that you need in order to vote. >> okay. so you got it, and you can't vote somewhere else? you have got to vote at your

precinct. >> now, if you don't have a sample ballot, check out maricopa.vote for your polling place, and bring a photo i.d. like a driver's license. if you don't have a photo i.d., you'll need two other forms of i.d., a voter registration card, a bill with your name and address on it. >> the matchup between arpaio and paul penzone, both vying to become the maricopa county sheriff next term, and both are spending staggering money here, especially in the final hours of their campaigns. andrew hasbun joins us live with a look at the numbers. >> when you add up the candidates and what they are spending and some of the outside groups involved in this race, they are spending up to $15 million to occupy this office, the maricopa county sheriff's office, and tonight opponents of joe arpaio are out on the streets knocking on doors, making sure people head to the polls tomorrow. opponents of sheriff joe arpaio

tonight, going to voters homes, urging them to head to the polls tomorrow. >> we are also asking folks to vote against arpaio. >> norma, working with the group basta arpaio, is one of dozens not affiliated with any campaign, working to unseat the long time sheriff, working the phones, making signs, and tonight they hit the streets. >> there are still a lot of voters who haven't voted, so on those doors and talk to people. >> a staggering amount of money being spent on the race between penzone and arpaio, the latest campaign filing showing penzone's campaign raised $1 million and spent about $740,000 just last week, but he got millions in help from arizona stronger, major funders including the widow of apple

250,000, and billionaire democrat george sorrows -- soros who dropped $1.3 million. >> here's a guy coming to maricopa county and trying to influence who the sheriff should be? no, it's the 4 million people that will do that, and my secret weapon in 24 years has always been i go to the people. >> reporter: arpaio isn't hurting for money. his campaign $12.5 million and spent almost all of it. back in 2012, paul penzone lost to the sheriff by about six points, but marc, as we all know, a lot has happened here at the maricopa county sheriff's office over the past four years. >> we have been hearing that this may be as close a race as sheriff joe arpaio has ever had. what do the polling numbers show? >> there hasn't been too much

there was a poll in mid october that showed paul penzone up with a significant, possibly a double-digit margin, but the sheriff's campaign is quick to point out their own polls show this to be a much tighter race and the sheriff ahead, so really not a lot of polling on this one. with the election just hours away, fox 10 has you covered. we'll start out with live online coverage at 2:00 in the afternoon on the fox 10 page, and then our on air coverage starts on fox 10 news at 5:00. curtis crawford accused killing his girlfriend and then trying to make it look like a suicide. phoenix police say that she was shot to death following an argument with crawford. crawford faces manslaughter

essage. you're watching fox 10 news at 10:00 with marc martinez. >> a self-confessed murderer who was recently taken into custody in south carolina has ties to the valley. his name is todd kohlhepp, and he was arrested after a missing woman was found metal shipping container on his property, and today police found a third body on that property, but we are learning his criminal history began here in arizona in the 1980s. danielle miller joins us live with more on what we are learning, danielle? >> reporter: marc, we are learning kohlhepp's violent past started here in the valley. court documents show that he had a long history of mental illness and even killed goldfish with clorox in elementary school. today we spoke with a former

him in a case in the '80s. he told us kohlhepp was a deeply troubled person. >> you have no way of knowing when they are going to go off the deep end and start killing people, and that's the situation with this man. >> reporter: that from alan bicker, the former attorney of suspected serial killer 45-year-old todd kohlhepp. he represented him in 1987 when kohlhepp was convicted of rape in arizona. court documents show w kohlhepp was 15, he held his 14-year-old neighbor at gunpoint, tied her up, put tape over her mouth and then raped her. kohlhepp took a plea deal and served a 15-year prison sentence pin arizona for sexual assault. >> it appeared that he had very little view of what the value of life was, and the little girl in this was very lucky.

>> reporter: kohlhepp now being linked to at least seven homicides, and over the weekend authorities say he made a shocking confession in a 13-year cold case. they say he admitted to killing four people at a motor sports shop in south carolina in 2003, family members of the victim shocked by this confession. >> to hear the investigators who have been working tirelessly, the guys on the ground, tell me things like -- one investigator said i have been doing this for 27 years, and i have never seen anything unfold like this happen. >> reporter: investigators say they believe they have recovered all of the bodies from kohlhepp's 95-acre property in south carolina. he's now being held without bond and said that he will represent himself and not hire an attorney. the arizona supreme court upholds an earlier ruling in the death of a 10-year-old phoenix

after she was padlocked in a foot locker for hours, all as punishment for stealing popsicles. prosecutors wanted the death penalty if the court decided it was warranted. the allenes were fighting the prosecutor's request, but today the judge sided with the prosecutors. a person arrested again for allegedly groping two women the downtown a.s.u. campus. one woman walked into a bank and called for help. it turns out the suspect was on probation and was wearing an ankle monitor. the monitor and security footage put him at the time and place of the assault, now charged with attempted sexual assault and abuse. tomorrow we'll get up to right around 90 degrees for the high, and that of course is election day.

bismarck. these are the forecast highs for your election day, just absolutely beautiful. now, as far as the moisture, a little bit of moisture up in the northwest here, and we do see just a little front working its way through, and you can see coming through st. louis, coming through the lower great lakes, the ohio valley, very important in this election, and they are going to have some rain working its way through the state as well. right now we are looking at 68 degrees in ahwatukee, 72 at gateway, 72 at fountain hills, 71 in scottsdale, and in surprise 68 degrees right now. so those temperatures, very, very nice, nary a cloud to be seen across the state today. here we go. that is the high on the day today at 86 degrees. you can see some corresponding numbers around it, a little lower in some areas. and then you look here at the national map, and here's that
