some close races including that of maricopa county recorder helen purcell. what seems to many like an easy task feeding thousands of early ballots into a machine to be tabulated is actually much more complicated says elizabeth bartholamew of the maricopa county recorders office. >> because we received those ballots on the day of the election, they need to be signature verified, they need to be processed and then ready for tabulation. so that's what we will be doing all d majoriy of them ready to go to tab late tomorrow morning. >> the number of early ballots waiting to be tabulated, 3,400,000. >> we can only tab late so much per -- tab late so much per day. >> bartholamew says tuesday election day more than 200,000 voters dropped off early ballot at their polling places around maricopa county. at the maricopa county recorder's office, there were nearly 200,000 more early

counted. >> we are always in maricopa bause of our size we are always about ten days after the election general election before we finish up the election. >> one of the races hanging in the balance, maricopa county recorder helen purcells. the republican is down roughly 9,000 votes to democratic challenger adrian fons it. persel has held the position for 27 years but long lines and frustration during the last summer is partly to blame for voting back lash against her. >> the recorder's office says it could be the end of next week before we know the final tally in all of the races. there are just a handful of state legislative races that are close enough to affected in all of this. and we will keep you posted as those new numbers keep getting updated from the recorder's office daily.

>> in -- an historic phoenix neighborhood goes up in flames after a transferor exploded last night. fire quickly spread through the dense forests of pine and oleander. >> we saw like fireworks after the big explosion. it did seem like a fourth of july so that got us all scared and we started running. >> home owners in the phoenix homestead's neighborhood say their power went on and off repeatedly yesterday afternoon. they tell us around 5:00 a massive f burning several garages and storage units in this home near 26th street and pin-shot. >> and then the garage we could tell was burning from the back and then moving toward the front and the garage door is in the front started burning through. that's when i saw flame because lot of smoke before that. >> the home owner tells us the blaze started as a small fire in an alleyway behind his house. and srp says that fire climbed a power pole setting the transformer on fire.

you see it was destructive a three alarm blaze. the building was abandoned and no one was inside or injured as firefighters battled this. look at that orange glow. investigators are still looking into what may have caused this. a wildfire burning in north georgia in the mountains is filling downtown atlanta with a lot of smoke. people can smell this and it's irritating eyes and throats. fire crews say drought conditions are fueling these flames. the national weather service warning residents about reduc visibility, breathing sensitivity and the fire is expected to grow but so far it is not threatening any property. >> coming up new tonight at 9:00, they are the poor, the abandoned and forgotten. when they die some end up here. this is the white tank cemetery where those who die unclaimed end up with the sheriff's' chain gang as mourners. >> the burials to me are more of like an emotional thing for me,

doctors called her a doctors called her a miracle. a tempe woman diagnosed with terminal cancer at just 14 years old and she is able to beat the disease. the fight, was not easy but 11 years still cancer-free and now she is thinking -- thanking a very special person. stefania okolie has the story. christine ireten didn't have the typical teenage experience. >> i was 14 when i was diagnosed and i was just getting into my freshman year of high school. >> severe and sudden stomach pains turned out to be a three pound tumor. doctors diagnosed it as terminal cancer. and kristen underwent surgery and months of chemotherapy.

win. secondary, look, if you look at the numbers here, they have done a nice job. the interception by patrick peterson against the tampa bay buccaneers. they really limited points allowed if you look at the numbers here, their number one and giving up 297 yards per game in a pass happy league. they are number two in yards passing given up. 197 and i think this is the most important statistics points allowed under 18. 17.5 points per game a three in the league and that's going to play heavy into the second half of the season. i talked with tony jefferson on how the defense must be a major force for the entire second half of the season. some days we have been dominant and sometimes -- we are trying to build a consistent base on defense. the record is still 3-4-1 so we can't be too happy about performances and second half of the season. and i think everybody knows what
