suspected drunk driver slammed into her and a friend. tonight we are also learning more about the man who is still in jail. that's where we find stefania okolie live with the update for us. stefania? >> right now, the 16-year-old hit by the suspected drunk driver has a very long road to recovery, meanwhile, the suspect still here at towers jail. mindy tonight is sharing her inspiring story with us from her hospital bed. in the blink of an eye -- >> i just got hit. >> reporter: mindy's life would change forever at just 16 years old. >> he was a drunk driver. he was a drunk driver. >> reporter: a drunk driver the reason why she's here today. >> it's kind of hard, because sometimes i wake up and, like, i'll remember that my leg is broken. >> reporter: two broken legs,

became a nightmare, she's sharing her story. >> i really want him to learn that he's ruined my life and my friend's life. >> tuesday, october 24th, mindy and three friends were heading home on 17 when they ran out of gas. mindy and her friend got out and decided to try and push to the nearest exit, but they wouldn't make it even 20 yards before 56-year-old vince vaughn s >> i fell to the floor, and i crawled. >> mindy short of breath only memorized one number for her friend to call. >> i said, grandma, i'm dying. i got into a wreck. some guy hit me. i'm dying. my legs are ruined. there's so much blood. i said, grandma, shut up, i love you. >> court records showed vaughn

police custody at honorhealth osborn. police believe he also carjacked a silver car, a lexus, and he was found last night while trying to carjack someone else in tempe. no words on the charges that he will be facing in addition to the extra charges that he was already facing. funeral arrangements have been made now for a police officer killed in the line of duty. a funeral will be held at 9:00 followed by a procession to the churj the suspect barricaded himself for nearly six hours and then opened fire on police who returned fire and killed the suspect. meanwhile, show low residents are also trying to raise money to replace a well-known statue in the town of show low, which depicts how show

more than 70 deputies have now been identified as potential problems. >> it means that they are, for example, stopping a certain -- stopping latinos or native americans at a significantly higher rate than other deputies in their same beat or in their same district, so these things need to be addressed quickly. >> when arpaio leaves office, he will still be responsible for the criminal contempt charges against him. meanwhile, the maricopa county sheriff's office must remain i before the federal monitor and the entire case can go away. tomorrow is veterans day, and to celebrate our brave men and women, the city of phoenix is planning a huge celebration. it's the 20th annual phoenix veterans day parade, 15 marching bands, 18 floats, and color guards will honor those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. more than 40,000 people with are expected to line the streets.

chaos that ensued. >> some students walked out of class, but some waited for school to be over for joining the protest. students i spoke with at the state capitol were chanting things like education, not deportation, saying one of the things that upsets them about donald trump is his stance on illegal immigration and deportation. students from several different high schools walked out of class today to protest, many students meeting at the capitol. a.s.u. prep student katharine martinez says with trump in office, she says she fears many of the people she knows that are in the country illegally will be deported. >> i believe everyone should have the equal education that i have. >> some arguing that these students shouldn't be out here protesting but instead should be at school. >> trump, and i will finish

and he can't even do anything by himself. it's a whole legislative process. they don't understand that. >> the superintendent took to youtube to make a statement, saying when a large group of students wanted to leave the school, they don't lock or block the gates, and although they don't condone leaving, they don't stop it. >> we have very strict policies about leaving class or leaving campus, and there are consequences for students campus or leave class, and we deal with that on an individual basis. >> the superintendent there who you heard from says 500 to 1,000 students in the district have walked out of class in the past two days. there are 28,000 students in that district. police have been present at all of the protests, and for the most part they have remained peaceful. well, a little above the

65 in apache junction, 68 degrees up at fountain hills, and in surprise mid-60s right now, and as we have been showing through the day here, a little bit of cloud cover over in the eastern mountains, some finding its way into and across the city today, not much. there you go on your high for the day, 82 degrees out at sky harbor, other numbers about the same all around the valley, 64 in payson, up at page, we had 68 bend, and this is what we are forecasting overnight here. the norm would be at 55, so we are a little above that, so you can see some of these other temperatures trying to get close to 55 but not quite there. 82 for the high today, 64 for the low, 78 and 55 normal high and low, there's your record high at 91, your record low at 33. here's what we are forecasting, about the same as today, 82 degrees, we are looking at 79 degrees in the forecast up at
