fox 10 news at 10:00 starts now. and thank you for joining us. we begin tonight with what scottsdale police are calling an incident of road rage. this all began when a woman called 911 to say a black sedan was ramming her car while she was driving right near thomas and scottsdale road. officers caught up with the black sedan near 48th street and thomas, and that's when the driver allegedly took around, turn off, crashed into an suv and spun out, also hitting a police cruiser. nobody chaos out there, but the driver was arrested and police believe that driver was under the influence. our other big story tonight, a valley teen who almost lost her life is speaking out tonight from her hospital bed. she is still recovering from some really bad injuries after a suspected drunk driver slammed into her and a friend. tonight we are also learning more about the man who is still in jail. that's where we find stefania okolie live with the update for

stefania? >> right now, the 16-year-old hit by the suspected drunk driver has a very long road to recovery, meanwhile, the suspect still here at towers jail. mindy tonight is sharing her inspiring story with us from her hospital bed. in the blink of an eye -- >> i just got hit. >> reporter: mindy's life would change forever at just 16 years old. >> he was a drunkdr he was a drunk driver. >> reporter: a drunk driver the reason why she's here today. >> it's kind of hard, because sometimes i wake up and, like, i'll remember that my leg is broken. >> reporter: two broken legs, five surgeries, and three painful weeks after a night became a nightmare, she's sharing her story. >> i really want him to learn that he's ruined my life and my friend's life.

and three friends were heading home on 17 when they ran out of gas. mindy and her friend got out and decided to try and push to the nearest exit, but they wouldn't make it even 20 yards before 56-year-old vince vaughn slammed into them. >> i fell to the floor, and i crawled. >> mindy short of breath only memorized one number for her friend to call. >> i said, grandma, i'm dying. i got into a wreck. i'm dying. my legs are ruined. there's so much blood. i said, grandma, shut up, i love you. >> court records showed vaughn was two times over the legal limit, a convicted felon. remarkably, she forgives him and hopes sharing her story will stop someone else from making the same, dangerous life changing mistake.

was found last night while trying to carjack someone else in tempe. no words on the charges that he will be facing in addition to the extra charges that he was already facing. funeral arrangements have been made now for a show low police officer killed in the line of duty. a funeral will be held at 9:00 followed by a procession to the churj the suspect barricaded himself opened fire on police who returned fire and killed the suspect. meanwhile, show low residents are also trying to raise money to replace a well-known statue in the town of show low, which depicts how show low got its name, a card name between two frontiersmen and the winner had to show the low card.

but it was fiberglass and caught fire. >> it was a safety hazard, so they had no -- they had to cut it out. it's a big loss for all of the community. people stop from all over and take pictures with it. it's a historic marker. >> a gofundme page has been set up to try and raise $40,000 to replace that statue. if you would like to help out, we have a link to that at fox10phoenix.com. another hearing today in the civil contempt case against maricopa county sheriff 7th term in office against paul penzone this week. three years after a federal judge ordered arpaio to stop immigration sweeps and make changes to mcso, independent reports show biased policing still exists. more than 70 deputies have now been identified as potential problems. >> it means that they are, for example, stopping a certain -- stopping latinos or native americans at a significantly higher rate than other deputies

same district, so these things need to be addressed quickly. >> when arpaio leaves office, he will still be responsible for the criminal contempt charges against him. meanwhile, the maricopa county sheriff's office must remain in compliance for three years before the federal monitor and the entire case can go away. tomorrow is veterans day, and to celebrate our brave men and women, the city of phoenix is planning a huge celebration. it's the 20th annual phoenix veterans day parade, 1 bands, 18 floats, and color guards will honor those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. more than 40,000 people with are expected to line the streets. the parade starts at montbello and continues down central avenue. be aware that parade is happening tomorrow morning. two valley veterans fell into an unexpected friendship, the

toe, i got taken back into -- a nurse went by, and apparently she heard me. >> arnie says he was lucky to be rescued and nursed back to health, but michael believes he's the lucky one, to have met someone he admires so much. >> i can't imagine what he went through. i mean, i thought that i went through some hard times and then when i hear about what he went through, i like, you know, i stop having pity on myself. >> today michael stopped by to wish arnie an early happy veterans day, share a few stories, adding that while some may see arnie as a humble shop owner, michael sees a hero. >> if you don't feel the warmth, just being in this building with his presence, then, you know, i don't know, you must not be human, you know, and i just wish that there was a way that the world could know arnie and i'm so blessed that i cross paths with him. >> very sweet. and mike and arnie actually have

both are married to the loves of their life. michael has been with his high school sweetheart for 73 years. they also both have rescue dogs. reporting live, marcy jones, fox 10 news. an active duty member got to see his best friend for the first time in months, all thanks to the arizona humane society. take a look, today master sergeant doug lock and his family got to be reunited their terrier pit bull mix layla. he was deployed to south korea without anyone to care for his dog, and this program allows pet owners to leave their pets with the humane society, leaving them with peace of mind until they return. nearly 100 pets and families have benefited from this program. coming up after the break, protests are breaking out across the country following the election of donald trump. we'll hear from demonstrators

you're watching fox 10 news at 10:00 with marc martinez. day two of protests around the country after donald trump wins the presidential election against hillary clinton, and this is some video here you're looking at from a protest in california. and you can see police there blocking off the protesters. other protests happening in places like oregon and philadelphia tonight. and those protests even going on here in the valley. in different schools in the valley walking out of class today to protest president elect donald trump, and fox 10's danielle miller live with more now on the chaos that ensued. >> some students walked out of class, but some waited for school to be over for joining the protest. students i spoke with at the state capitol were chanting things like education, not

donald trump is his stance on illegal immigration and deportation. students from several different high schools walked out of class today to protest, many of the students meeting at the capitol. a.s.u. prep student katharine martinez says with trump in office, she says she fears many of the people she knows that are in the country illegally will be deported. >> have the equal education that i have. >> some arguing that these students shouldn't be out here protesting but instead should be at school. >> trump, and i will finish here, has not made one decision, and he can't even do anything by himself. it's a whole legislative process. they don't understand that. >> the superintetendent took t youtube to make a statement, saying when a large group of students wanted to leave the

the gates, and although they don't condone leaving, they don't stop it. >> we have very strict policies about leaving class or leaving campus, and there are consequences for students who make poor choices to leave campus or leave class, and we deal with that on an individual basis. >> the superintendent there who you heard from says 500 to 1,000 students in the district have walked out of class in the past two days. there are 28,000 that district. police have been present at all of the protests, and for the most part they have remained peaceful. well, a little above the seasonal norm today, just a few degrees, very, very nice out there. will this weather be lasting?

harbor, other numbers about the same all around the valley, 64 in payson, up at page, we had 68 degrees, 82 degrees at gila bend, and this is what we are forecasting overnight here. the norm would be at 55, so we are a little above that, so you can see some of these other temperatures trying to get close to 55 but not quite there. 82 for the high today, 64 for the low, 78 and 55 normal high and low, there's your record high at 91, your record low at 33. here's what we are forecasting, about the same as today, 82 degrees, we are looking at 79 degrees in the forecast up at cave creek, 80 degrees at apache junction, 82 in mesa, and 82 -- 83, that is, in glendale. 72 in sedona, we are looking at 77 up in kingman, 84 at gila bend, and 79 is the forecast down in tuscon. this is the way things are looking across the country.

it's time to make the donuts, one that says trump, another that says wall, as in the border wall with mexico. at this valley dunkin' donuts, it's the donut of the month, america's donut, red and blue on white frosting. one donut says trump, as in donald trump, president elect. the other donut says wall, as in the u.s. mexican border. mr. trump promises to replace the current border fence with what he says would be a beautiful wall along the entire nearly 2000-mile border between the u.s. and mexico and have the mexicans pay for it, so wall. what do customers think? so what do you make of these? >> i am pro america, so so i don't see anything wrong with them. i don't know if i would go out of my way to purchase them, but i think that it's a way to support america. >> what do i think? it's going o get a lot of controversy. >> do you think so? >> yeah.
