several traffic accidents in scottsdale and then leading police on a jail has been taken to the hospital. police say 25-year-old moses attempted suicide in his jail cell last night, and then they transported him to the hospital. they say moses is responsible for continuing to strike and rear end the back of a woman's car and his car, and then when they tried to stop him, he hit three other cars and a police cruiser. eventually he was custody, one person receiving minor injuries, no officers hurt. >> the late officer reed will be laid to rest. he was killed at just 50 years old when he responded to a disturbance. reed had been with the police force since 2006 and was planning to retire in february. he is survived by his wife and son and daughter.

is open to the public. this is a day where we honor those who have served in our nation's military. skyfox over two veterans day parades happening in phoenix and mesa today, thousands of people lining the streets to celebrate our veterans, and one of the largest gatherings was here in phoenix. it started at bethany home and central and ended near the phoenix va hospital. >> fox 10's andrew hasbun was there, and he spoke to three veterans from three different wars, and he joins us now live. >> iraqi freedom, vietnam, and world war ii. they came with families to watch one of the biggest parades in the state, cheering as floats passed by. it's a parade many veterans won't miss. >> we did two tours in iraqi freedom, two tours, two deployments. >> we brought his family, including young kid.

missed a lot of holidays together, birthdays, and it's nice to be here and join everybody out here. >> the parade zigzagged down central avenue and camelback road and ended near the va. elected leaders and high school bands passed veterans like don jones, a world war ii vet. >> i'm the only one my age around. >> jones is 93 and had these words for young people watching the parade. >> just togetherness. it takes two to get started then you just build from there. >> 2,500 people took part in the parade, which lasted about two hours. the theme this year, welcome home vietnam veterans. >> americans still treasure their country, and the veterans are the top of the list that treasure the country. >> gary page is a vietnam vet and gave 20 years to his country. >> it's a good life, if that's what you choose, but you have got to be sure you want to do it

i may never do it. >> it's not a typical friday morning for 90-year-old laurie phillips. this morning, she is getting suited up. >> none of these will break, will they? >> reporter: before jumping out of a planement. >> i want you to sit on that -- >> reporter: laurie chose to sky dive on veterans day to honor her late husband bill phillips who passed away late last year at the age a world war ii veteran and a member of the 82nd army airborne. laurie took a moment to pay tribute to all of those that served. >> i had a son that died, killed in vietnam. i had three sons that were in the service, and i also have a grandson that's in the service. >> after the jump, laurie anxiously awaited for her two

>> she's like the energizer bunny, and she still plays golf twice a week. she keeps us with us. a lot of us have to run to keep up with her, and whatever she does never surprises us. >> laurie jumped from 10,000 feet with a 45-second free fall, and then the parachute opens and it is a five-minute coast to the ground where we are happy to report laurie landed safely. >> it was beautiful. it was nice. i was really scared when they out. i was glad he was hanging on to me. >> reporter: she has no future plans to jump again but says she may consider it for her 95th birthday. she has a message for those who served and are serving. >> stay wise and love your country. >> let's talk cardinals here for a minute. this is not exactly the season the cardinals were hoping for. but they are still in this

happening happening now, fox 10 news alert. a protest under way, not a big one, but as you see here, we pull back, you can see some people seemingly pretty peaceful here. a few people on the street. this is on the campus of asu, students voicing their opposition to the outcome of the presidential election on tuda wonder if people are now, regardless of how they feel about the result, are kind of pulling back because this is a very small gathering compared to what we've been seeing in other cities, even last night around the country. now we're getting a little bigger. >> we're not sure where they're heading. could be heading to an area where there's a lot more people. >> that's a much better shot. that's a bigger gathering than what we were led to believe with that earlier shot. nonetheless, the students

on mill avenue. it has been peaceful so far. they're saying about a couple hundred are involved in this. we will keep an eye on it. strong feelings still about this election on both sides. a big shake-up in donald trump's transition to becoming commander in chief. he has chosen his vice president-elect mike pence to replace new jersey governor chris christie as the head of the transition team. >> we're also getting a look at who else is on the team. so recognize. f fox's marc martinez is here live. >> chris christie was one of trump's rivals in the primary election, then became one of his advisers. chris christie was to head the transition team, but now incoming vice president mike pence will be the chairman of the team. trump says pence will build on

he's got deep ties to washington conservers. christie will still serve on the committee as vice chairman. no word clearly on why he was demoted, but it could be he's facing indictment over the bridgegate scandal from 2013. we're also learning the architect of a controversial law in arizona is joining the transition team. chris kovac passed sb approved by governor jan brewer. other members on the transition team include former new york city mayor rudy giuliani, former speaker of the house, newt gingrich, and dr. ben carson. meanwhile, more security measures being taken to protect trump and his family. large traps and barricades now surround trump tower in new york city, where they are currently living. and armed counterterrorism officers are guarding the front

moon. it's coming once again. we've had a lot of super moons as of late. >> this one is going to be spectacular. >> doesn't get much bigger and brighter than this. monday's super moon will be extra super. it will be the closest the moon has come in 69 years. it won't happen in another 18 years. it's called the beaver moon. did you know that? >> no, i didn't. >> it's expected to appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than normal. the closest approach will be around arizona time. the moon will be about 221,523 miles from the earth. so it's close, but you can't reach out and touch it close. >> it may look like you can. hi, everybody. look at that. 81 degrees. we have a little bit of haze, the sun setting at the present time. winds out of the northeast at

78 right now in surprise. chandler, 81. apache junction, 77 degrees. not much going on. get a little bit of cloud cover through the state as we continue on. i put the futurecast in motion just so you can see the cloud cover coming through on the weekend. not much. just a little bit of clouds. kind of hazy is what we're going to see. 83 degrees as we look at the high temperature on the day today. in 81 up in deer valley. 81 in chandler as well. then other numbers would be 66 in payson, 58 up in the flagstaff area. 79 degrees at kingman. 63 at winslow with 80 down in tucson. take a look at what's going on through the night. yeah, there's that supermoon getting ready for monday. it's going to be fairly full through the weekend. we'll have an overnight low right around 62 degrees. then we'll be looking at 61 at deer valley.

57 out at queen creek and apache junction 59 degrees overnight. this is your day. we started with a 66 for the overnight low. afternoon high was 83. 78 and 54 would be your normal high and low. your record high 91. your record low at 35. here is what we're forecasting. 81 degrees is what we're looking at for the city. surrounding areas will be in the mid-80s. some 70s showing up. some low 80s as well. so kind of a little mixed bag. but not getting real warm over the next few days. just kind of staying in the mild zone. 70 degrees up in sedona. 59 in flagstaff. with 59 the forecast in show low. we continue with 87 degrees at yuma. 84 degrees at gila bend. so those 80s continue across the desert floor. looking across the country here, once again, a fairly clear day. more moisture coming in to the

then we still have a little bit of moisture down in the gulf states. some cloud cover, a little bit of rain in this area right here, as you can see, up into new england, that rain and snow has all subsides athe this time. overnight and tomorrow morning, 61 degrees. 81 degrees for your saturday. then take a look at it here as we finish out the weekend with an 82. we start heading down that road where we pick those numbers up a little bit. looky there. there are some 70s and low 80s in that forecast as well. dave, ski season is officially under way in california. they've gotten some snow. mammoth opened its lifts to skiers and snowboarders yesterday, making it the first resort to open in the west. remember they got a big round of storms about a month ago. and the snow is good so far. more is on the way. northern california in the tahoe area, the resorts expected to open sometime next week. still ahead at 5:00, a dog missing for years is back home with its owners tonight. plus black friday, the rush

need for speed? phoenix international raceway will be the scene feeling the need for speed. pir, phoenix international raceway, will be the scene for three full days of races, thousands of people heading out. anita roman spoke with some of the people who will spend the weekend at the track. >> reporter: nascar fans have been waiting all fall for this weekend. >> we love it. we've been doing it ten years. >> reporter: the kole ips family camps out in the infield at phoenix international raceway from thursday through sunday. >> it's a nice area. >> it's fantastic. it's like a community out here. everyone is camping from all over the country. you make friends. you have a good time. >> reporter: it's the second to last race of the season. >> this race, we're calling it the phoenix four. each of the series is getting eliminated down to only four drivers that are eligible to win
