responsible for dozens of deaths across the nation. stefania okolie has been looking into the dangers of the synthetic drug. she joins us now. parents need to be aware of the dangers of the drug. >> perhaps the most alarming thing about it is how easily it can be accessed. all i had to do was type a quick search into google, this one here as cheap as $35. a lot of people the synthetic drug is extremely deadly. >> sadly, there are always new designer drugs appearing every day. >> better known as pink on the streets, an opiate strand drug that's eight times stronger than heroin. >> chemists create it, a lot of money behind it, you alter one molecule or leg and it's something new. >> that something new is

drugs. >> you can have a controlled substance, change a piece of it, and all of a sudden it's a legal product. >> it's part of a surge of synthetic drugs on the market, pink now responsible for dozens of deaths across the nation, most recently in utah where 213-year-old boys diedf a taking the drug. they ordered it on the internet. stephanie is the director of community education for community bridges. she says one of the scariest parts about this is the very easy access to drugs. >> no one is immune to this. >> right. >> it could be rich or poor, young or old, everyone has access to designer drugs online nowadays. >> yeah, and the fact that these synthetic drugs are killing people should alone be enough for people to want to stay away from them. getting these things off the street, it's scary alone, getting things inside of a store.
