fox 10 news at 9:00 starts now. this is a fox 10 news alert. >> and we start tonight with a news alert, a here children are walking across the street. >> yeah, what's when they were hit by an oncoming car. sadly, the mother did not survive. her two children are in critical shape. >> stefania okolie is live from the scene and joins us with more. >> the road is still shut down after this terribly heartbreakiheartbre heartbreaking accident that left a mother two, children fighting for their lives.

the scene, such a heart wrenching reminder of this accident. you have a small children's bike which police say the three-year-old was riding, a pair of shoes right next to the bike, further up the road there, you can see that there are several evidence markers marking some debris in the road, along with a stroller that is also pretty mangled and is what appears to be an adult pair of shoes, police telling us that this mother was about 35 years old. about 50 yards up the road there, we can see that police are that is the suspect's vehicle, that truck that you see there. now, we have some video of police walking this man to a police car. he was placed under arrest. police tell us that this 39-year-old man that you see did have a suspended license, and also we are told that he did run this red light as the mother and her two children were trying to cross ray road here. that's right near ponderosa avenue and college road. police say that this was someone who was driving and not supposed

>> it's a terrible thing. it's just a tragedy. i always get tired of seeing these things, especially the senseless ones. this is an individual that should not have been driving the vehicle because of the license suspension, yet he chose to do that, and now we have this fatality and two children without a mother. >> reporter: yeah, very heartbreaking that both of these children will be without their moth now we are told the mom did die at the hospital. we are told that the two-year-old does have life-threatening injuries, doctors obviously working very hard to save these children's lives, hoping for a full recovery for them. we'll have another update on the story for you coming up on fox 10 news at 10:00. for the latest, i'm here in chandler, stefania okolie, fox 10 news. >> stefania, thank you. well, it's been four days, a lot of americans still struggling with the results of

the people. >> hillary clinton saying james comey's letter to congress brought the focus back to her e-mail scandals, ultimately costing her the white house. back here in maricopa, maricopa recorder helen purcell has released an update to the election votes, still 135,000 mail in ballots to be tableted, 35,000 provisional to be counted. jan brewer was at a victory party in new york when she felt sick and collapsed, hurting her leg and shoulder. she was then rushed to a hospital tuesday night and had to miss trump's speech wednesday morning. she has been battling pneumonia since last month and added that she has been feeling a little bit better after a course of antibiotics.

about his two roles that could cause some conflict. along with likely being reelected as arizona corporation commissioner, tobin also leads arizona state university's legislative training academy, and there has been some concern that the university fund-raising could become a conflict for tobin when it involves companies with businesses before the corporation commission. today the state utility regulator told a local radio show he filed a financial a.s.u. in february, and tobin recused himself from one commission vote due to a conflict of interest. new at 9:00, fire crews called to a mobile home fire in mesa, resulting in the loss of that home. this is near 90th street and broadway. fire crews say that hoarding conditions in one of the homes have contributed to that fire. mesa fire wants to remind people that if you see something suspicious, say something to authorities.

neighbors that if they are coming up against the situation, contact the county, contact the city to report this, and make sure some kind of action is being taken. obviously, some sort of action preventive to this may have prevented this fire from happeningme happening. >> now, there is no official word on what started that fire. fortunately nobody was injured by the flames. and fire crews were also called to the scene in peoria with where an abandoned house caught fire. near 70th avenue and roosevelt. the home will be a total loss. fortunately there was no damage to surrounding homes, and no one was injured in that fire. now to the amber alert overnight out of tempe. >> i have got this one. >> okay, go ahead. >> the two girls kidnapped have been found and reunited with their mother. tempe police found jazmyn and chandra campbell this morning in a tempe home. police took david fuller into

airfield in afghanistan today, and the taliban is claiming responsibility. fox news reporter john huddy has the latest from jerusalem. >> reporter: four americans killed in a suicide attack at bagram air force base in afghanistan, two were u.s. service members, two contractors working in afghanistan, 16 other americans were injured according to military officials, all of them part of a larger group of people getting ready for a post veterans day run. this morning in bagram air base when officials say a man apparently posing as an afghan laborer detonated his suicide vest, where people, as i said, were getting ready for that morning run. the taliban has claimed responsibility, saying the attack had been planned for four months, where the explosives came from, however, if they were smuggled into the base, if they were already there and why this attacker wasn't flagged before getting in or at least during security screening is under

forecast with kristy siefkin on fox 10 news. >> if you're like many people, you are tired of those 80-degree readings, ready for some cooler weather, and the good news you're going to get it. we just have to get through a few more days of above average temperatures. nice and clear out there tonight, looking at 71 degrees the sky harbor, the winds pretty light, about three miles an hour out of the southeast, and as we look at the wide picture here of the pacific, not a lot of activity. we are seeing a little bit of rain and snow activity into the intermountain west, but all pretty clear tonight through northern arizona and southern arizona, just some patchy clouds. so this activity that we are seeing to the north of us, yeah, we are going to see this low swing through northern arizona, exit through the plains, behind it a very strong ridge of high pressure building into southwest, warm numbers before the cooldown. in terms of numbers around the state, already seeing very which i will conditions in the grand canyon and flagstaff, already in

live from fox studios, fox 10 news is back. a man who police say was holding a hammer is rushed to the hospital after they shot him. now, this happened at the el super grocery store parking lot near 51st avenue and indian school road. police say it looks like there were two suspects who were fighting. that's when the suspect shot the man holding the hammer, so police did not -- they weren't involved in t all. they didn't shoot anyone. they were two suspects. one shot the other. police ended up detaining the shooter. the man with the hammer is in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and police are still working on piecing together exactly what hapened here. >> well, police need your help in finding a man in connection with an armed robbery at a home depot, take a look at your screen, surveillance video of the man shopping at the store,
