fox 10 news at 9:00 starts now. this is a fox 10 news alert. >> and we start tonight with a news alert, a here and two children are walking across the street. >> yeah, what's when they were hit by an oncoming car. sadly, the mother did not survive. her two children are in critical shape. >> stefania okolie is live from the scene and more. >> the road is still shut down after this terribly heartbreakiheartbre heartbreaking accident that left a mother two, children fighting for their lives. police assessing what's left at the scene, such a heart wrenching reminder of this accident. you have a small children's bike which police say the three-year-old was riding, a pair of shoes right next to the bike, further up the road there, you can see that there are

some debris in the road, along with a stroller that is also pretty mangled and is what appears to be an adult pair of shoes, police telling us that this mother was about 35 years old. about 50 yards up the road there, we can see that police are gathering. that is the suspect's vehicle, that truck that you see there. now, we have some video of police walking this man to a police car. he was placed under arrest. police tell us that this 39-year-old man that you see did have a suspended license, and also we are told that he did run this red light her two children were trying to cross ray road here. that's right near ponderosa avenue and college road. police say that this was someone who was driving and not supposed to be behind the wheel. >> it's a terrible thing. it's just a tragedy. i always get tired of seeing these things, especially the senseless ones. this is an individual that should not have been driving the

suspension, yet he chose to do that, and now we have this fatality and two children without a mother. >> reporter: yeah, very heartbreaking that both of these children will be without their mother tonight. now we are told the mom did die at the hospital. we are told that the two-year-old does have life-threatening injuries, doctors obviously working very hard to save these children's lives, hoping for a full recovery for them. we'll have another update on the story for you fox 10 news at 10:00. for the latest, i'm here in chandler, stefania okolie, fox 10 news. >> stefania, thank you. well, it's been four days, a lot of americans still struggling with the results of election 2016, specifically that donald trump is the nation's president. >> it's going to take a while for a lot of the country, and we have seen those protests across the country, since election night and today, hundreds showing their support in downtown phoenix. marcy jones has the story.

an interesting few days, and everyone out there has an opinion, but what they have in common is that they are hoping their voices will be heard, with hundreds of thousands of ballots not counted yet in arizona, many say they are not ready to accept donald trump as their president. the united states of america is currently divided. you can see it right here in the valley as today hundreds rallied from the capitol to downtown phoenix. >> not my >> reporter: one side against president elect donald trump, the other side defending him. >> you guys are about as intelligent as a doorknob, as one knife in a knife drawer, you have lost your marbles! >> reporter: some tell us they hit the streets out of curiosity to test the authenticity of the rally. >> one of the biggest things that i have noticed is outside the core group of people, one of the things that you have noticed with protests a lot is a lot of paid people that come with it.

california all the way to new york denounce his campaign pledge to deport people who enter the u.s. illegally and past crude remarks about women, but thankfully there have been no reports of violence or major injuries tonight. the trump team getting ready to move into the white house. >> a big shake-up in the trump transition team while hillary clinton others. >> with a little more than two months until president elect trump takes the oval office, his focus now on his transition team, three of the trump children on the team and new york mayor giuliani. mike pence will lead the transition team, replacing governor chris christie, still no word who will serve on chief of staff, but we are told that announcement will be coming

maricopa recorder helen purcell has released an update to the election votes, still 135,000 mail in ballots to be tableted, 35,000 provisional to be counted. jan brewer was at a victory party in new york when she felt sick and collapsed, hurting her leg and shoulder. she was then rushed to a hospital tuesday night and had to miss trump's speech wednesday morning. she has been battling pneumonia since last month and added that she has been feeling a little bit better after a course of antibiotics. andy tobin clears the air about his two roles that could cause some conflict. along with likely being reelected as arizona corporation commissioner, tobin also leads arizona state university's legislative training academy,

that the university fund-raising could become a conflict for tobin when it involves companies with businesses before the corporation commission. today the state utility regulator told a local radio show he filed a financial disclosure when he was hired by a.s.u. in february, and tobin recused himself from one commission vote due to a conflict of interest. new at 9:00, fire crews called to a mobile home fire in mesa, resulting in the loss of that home. this is near 90th str broadway. fire crews say that hoarding conditions in one of the homes have contributed to that fire. mesa fire wants to remind people that if you see something suspicious, say something to authorities. >> we would always encourage neighbors that if they are coming up against the situation, contact the county, contact the city to report this, and make sure some kind of action is being taken. obviously, some sort of action preventive to this may have prevented this fire from

happening. >> now, there is no official word on what started that fire. fortunately nobody was injured by the flames. and fire crews were also called to the scene in peoria with where an abandoned house caught fire. take a look at the video here, near 70th avenue and roosevelt. the home will be a total loss. fortunately there was no damage to surrounding homes, and no one was injured in that fire. now to the amber alert overnight out of tempe. >> i >> okay, go ahead. >> the two girls kidnapped have been found and reunited with their mother. tempe police found jazmyn and chandra campbell this morning in a tempe home. police took david fuller into custody after they found the girls in his home. now, fuller is the older girl's biological father, but has no relation to the other little girl. police say fuller was with their mother last night, and they got into some kind of argument. that's when police say fuller

matt rodewald. tense moments today in albany new york when a mall is placed on lockdown after someone reports hearing gunshots. take a look at this cell phone video. it shows people running from the crossgates mall. the building was placed on lockdown so police could sweep the place from top to bottom after there were reports of gunfire near an apple store. you saw there the people running for cover. people have not said yet if anyone was injured or has been taken into custody. heavy security in place as sting reopens bataclan after paris attacks, and of course the bataclan theater was one of the targets of i.s.i.s. terrorists in paris back in november 13th of last year. barricades, body searches and armed police greeted concert

working in afghanistan, 16 other americans were injured according to military officials, all of them part of a larger group of people getting ready for a post veterans day run. the attack happened around 5:30 this morning in bagram air base when officials say a man apparently posing as an afghan laborer detonated his suicide vest, where people, as i said, were getting ready for that morning run. the taliban has claimed responsibility, saying the attack had been planned for four months, where the explosives smuggled into the base, if they were already there and why this attacker wasn't flagged before getting in or at least during security screening is under investigation. bagram is the largest u.s. military base in afghanistan. it's where top u.s. officials, including the defense secretary, including the president, fly into because of its heavy security, so this is clearly a major security breach. secretary of defense ash carter released a statement saying,

out of the southeast, and as we look at the wide picture here of the pacific, not a lot of activity. we are seeing a little bit of rain and snow activity into the intermountain west, but all in all pretty clear tonight through northern arizona and southern arizona, just some patchy clouds. so this activity that we are seeing to the north of us, yeah, we are going to see this low swing through northern arizona, exit through the plains, behind it a very strongid southwest, warm numbers before the cooldown. in terms of numbers around the state, already seeing very which i will conditions in the grand canyon and flagstaff, already in the 30s at this hour, lake havasu in the 70s, same for bullhead city, phoenix at 71, 54 degrees right now for safford. valley numbers looking great, cooling into the 60s in many locations, anywhere from 67 in buckeye or 64 i should say, 67 for apache junction, in the

64 degrees for maricopa, today coming in four degrees above the seasonal norm. if it felt like another hot one for you, spot on, well above where we should be for this time of year, way ahead -- national picture in quite a few pockets as we mentioned earlier, a little bit of rain and snow mix in the intermountain west, freezing conditions through freeze watches and warnings in effect all the way until tomorrow morning and then additionally as we get out mid atlantic region, some very chilly temperatures there overnight as well. back to arizona for a look at those numbers, will be in the 20s tonight in flagstaff and grand canyon, same in window rock, much warmer of course into the lower deserts, 55 for casa grande, even warmer in yuma, 61 degrees. 60 for lake havasu, 44 for safford, into the 30s for douglas, and then 31 degrees tonight in st. john's.

we are not done with those warm temperatures yet, 70 for prescott, 61 in flag, 65 for st. john's, you'll be at about 74, 88 for yuma, 77 into kingman and bullhead city at 86 degrees. a few high clouds out there tonight but as we get into tomorrow, we can expect mostly sunny skies, another day of those warm temperatures. i know it doesn't feel very fall like, but as we look at the extended forecast, we get the exit of that low. we get warm numbers for a few days, 80s, and then look guys as we get to the end of the work week, that drop from 80s into 70s. >> finally. >> finally, exactly, a pretty dry ask me -- a dry system right now, but it will cool things down and finally we'll get a dose of fall weather. >> am i supposed to complain that that's too warm? i'm not going to do that, new guy in town will not do that. >> in the midwest, when a warm

live from fox studios, fox 10 news is back. a man who police say was holding a hammer is rushed to the hospital after they shot him. now, this happened at the el super grocery store parking lot near 51st avenue and indian school road.

were two suspects who were fighting. that's when the suspect shot the man holding the hammer, so police did not -- they weren't involved in this shooting at all. they didn't shoot anyone. they were two suspects. one shot the other. police ended up detaining the shooter. the man with the hammer is in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and police are still working on piecing together exactly what hapened here. >> well, police need your help in finding a man in connection with a depot, take a look at your screen, surveillance video of the man shopping at the store, walking around, grabbing some merchandise. he went to the register and showed a cashier a gun. he then fled the scene in a getaway car. >> he's definitely trying to hide who he is with the baggy clothing, but the hat he is wearing is distinctive.

here. we are standing on the corner where it all unfolded, neighbors outside of this ranch view community very upset about what happened. they say this is a very small community and they say they feel like they knew this mother. here's what we know about what happened. we are told the mother was crossing the crosswalk here on ray road, and the car was heading west on ray road when it slammed into the mother and her children. what's left behind here at the scene, a absolutely heart wrenching reminder of who this accident you can see children's shoes on the road there. several evidence markers still in the road, about 30 more yards up the road here on ray road, you can see police are gathering more evidence and that pickup truck that you see there is what that suspect was driving. now, we do have some video in that shows police walking that man in handcuffs to a police car. we are told that this man, as

tabulation will continue tomorrow when they start things up at 9:00 in the morning. crews called to this abandoned house in peoria. you see the problem, it is an infer inferno. this is near 79th avenue and roosevelt. firefighters say the house will be a total loss. thankfully there was no damage to surrounding homes and no one was injured. it is under investigation tonight. a mobile home fire in mesa resulting in the loss of the home. rural metro fire said the homes were engulfed when they arrived on scene. firefighters are calling that fire suspicious though. they are uncertain, though, if this is an arson case. they say that hoarding conditions may have contributed to the fire. they want to use this case to remind people to report to authorities.

you're watching fox 10 news at 10:00. with linda williams with matt rodewald. an update now on that amber alert out of tempe earlier to today. the two little girls have been found safely, and they have been reunited with their mom tonight. tempe police found jazmyn and chandra campbell this morning in a tempe home. police took david fuller into custody after they found the girls at his house. now fuller is the older biological father but has no relation to the other little girl. police say fuller was with their mom last night and they got into some sort of argument. police say that's when fuller took both children. >> once we put that information out, it was an incredible outpour of support from the community, so we would just like to thank them for their efforts. >> now, the girls were not hurt, and they are back with their mom tonight. police say they need your help in finding a man they say is conneced to an armed robbery

take a look at your screen for the surveillance video from the home depot showing the man inside the store, and you can see the men walking around and looking at all of the merchandise. police say he grabbed some of that merchandise, but he went to the front to the register, he showed the cashier a gun. he then fled the scene in a getaway car. police are hoping somebody recognizes the man because of the hat that he is wearing. >> clothing and a skater hat with white writing on it that might stand out to someone. on social media, maybe someone will see the photos. they will recognize him. >> you are asked to call silent witness if you you have information on the case, that number 480-witness. if you love cooler temperatures, you are going to
