now. thank you for joining us for fox 10 news at 10:00. tonight, a community is rallying, coming together to show support for two kids who have lost their mother in a tragic way. >> yeah, the family was walking home from the park yesterday, and last night when a driver hit them in a crosswalk, killing the mother. our fox 10's stefania okolie was back in the neighborhood today to learn a little bit more about the family. stefania? >> yeah, well, matt and linda, shattered by what happened. this family was well-known. they said the mother was special and a warm person. her and the kids were so close to home yesterday evening before they were hit. the kids are still in serious condition at phoenix children's hospital. and meanwhile, the community is rallying together and praying for this family. corner outside of the warner ranch neighborhood. >> everything just seemed like a dream.

memorial perhaps the loudest emotion on a quiet night in the community. >> she was always laughing, always happy, so good with the kids. >> it's how neighbors are choosing to remember the 35-year-old mother, not only a neighbor but a friend. >> we would paint, she would come knocking with brownies. >> she took her kids for a walk almost every day, last night's walk ending tragically, crossing in the crosswalk at ray road and sped through a red light and hit all of them. her son's bike, the stroller her daughter was in, and their shoes left scattered in the road. medics rushed them to the hospital, but the kids, sadly, lost their mom. >> they cherished their mom. >> reporter: today a community coming together to show support, give prayer, some complete strangers who just happened to be a witness to the heartbreaking scene. >> i was really hoping and praying that she would make it, and she didn't, and even though i didn't know her, i was with

was just horrifying and tragic. >> yeah, very heartbreaking and traumatizing for everyone who had to witness that scene last night. police identified the driver as 39-year-old william epperlein, and today i learned his license was on suspension for a dui. he has been charged with causing death by a vehicle while driving on a suspended license. thanks, stefania. detectives trying to figure out to death in his west valley apartment early today. >> yeah, this is an apartment complex near 53rd avenue and northern. police have yet to release any information on the victim or any possible suspects in the case. investigators are working to piece together what exactly happened. now we spoke with a neighbor who did not want to go on camera but says that he heard the gunshot. >> i was just laying there watching tv, and i heard just

after that maybe ten seconds later you hear the car pull off, and it was one of those kind of cars that had a high-performance engine. >> now, if you know any information on the case, you are asked to call police. sad update for you on a shooting that happened yesterday. the man found shot near 15th avenue and buckeye has died from his injuries. police say a witness heard shots and called 911 early yesterday morning. officers found the victim lying in the middle of the street with gunshot wounds. police say they don't have any information on a possible suspect or what led to the shooting. all we know is that police say a man was seen running from the scene. >> and in phoenix, fire crews rescue a mountain biker on south mountain earlier today. crews report that the biker had somehow hurt his leg, and firefighters say that due to the extreme terrain, he had to be flown off the mountain.

was taken to the hospital for what led to that injury. for the fifth day, protests heard across the country following the election of donald trump. >> and today in the valley as well dozens of people turned out in tempe for a demonstration that they say stresses something a little bit different. our marcy jones has more on that story. marcy? >> that's right, guys. this is refreshing. we spoke to two teachers today who say they're sick of the nastiness that's transpired between both political parties, adding that they couldn't sit a decided to hit the streets with a message of hope. >> emotions are definitely understandable but now is the time to actually do something about it. whatever you may feel you need to do, get involved and do whatever, if it's the electoral college that's bothering you, get involved, and -- >> reporter: it's been the question plaguing protesters since the beginning of time. what is marching going to do to fix your cause? we asked that simple question today, and this is what two teachers had to say.

that arizonans do stand up against hate and intolerance. >> a'shawna and beth say that they want to spread the message that hope isn't lost, and we need to work together, especially since there is a young generation watching us. >> i think they have a lot more hope than the adults have in this they see it in their daily lives more than adults two. >> reporter: these two say that they want to lead by example that hate will never win. >> there has been a little bit of an uprising of hate, and we need everyone to know that regardless of who holds the office or who is elected, that type of behavior just will not be tolerated. >> reporter: several other cities across the country saw rallies tonight. for the most part, they have appeared peace. reporting live, marcy jones, fox 10 news.

an update on the ballots still being counted in maricopa county. in maricopa county, there are about 112,000 early ballots left to be processed and tabulated. there is also an estimated 55,000 provisional ballots left to be researched. there are some races that are still very close at this point. maricopa county incumbent helen purcell now trails the challenger, adrian fontes. people working at the maricopa county recorder's office will resume counting at 9:00 tomorrow morning. let's turn to the holidays, shall we? >> let's. >> a local valley nonprofit is hoping to make it special for everyone. >> the phoenix rescue mission is

turkey on the tables for the homeless this thanksgiving. >> they held a turkey drive yesterday and ended the drive with 800 turkeys, which still leaves them 200 turkeys short of their goal. they say it's not just the turkeys they need. they are also looking for help with hygiene products as well. >> we need help obviously with food, with supplies, with anything needed for a person to take a show. we need that all year long. thanksgiving just gives us that opportunity to really bless people and show gratitude. >> and you can make your donations at any phoenix rescue mission location. the scott foundation will be sending 100 boxes of toys that are going to be distributed to foster kids. each box of toys contains more than 100 toys.

>> tonight deputies have a suspect in custody. sheriff's deputies say this man, david machado, killed deputy dennis wallace, a 20-year veteran of the department. machado was arrested after he tried to steal a woman's purse at a convenience store. well, that woman fought back, and when machado took off running, she called police. machado was captured and identified immediately as deputy wallace's suspected kier massive and deadly earthquake struck new zealand's south island early today. the 7.8 magnitude quake struck and killed at least two people. video you are looking at is damage from the nation's north island. the powerful earthquake triggered a series of powerful aftershocks and a tsunami as well. military and red cross teams are dispatched to assess the damage and help those in the worst hit areas. well, it is hard to believe

i.s.i.s. killed 130 people in several attacks in paris. survivors and family members of the victims stood in silence as the names of those who lost their lives were read out loud. french president francois hollande visited the sites and laid wreaths there. he also unveiled plaques to honor those who lost their lives that night. some of the survivors returning here brought back horrors from that night. >> the worst was when there was some exchange between the terrorists and the police. there were some of the bullets went into the wall, and i was just on the other side of the wall. >> today's ceremonies follow last night's reopening of the bataclan concert hall. another warm day. in fact, could see some record

you're going to have to wait a while until you see it again. i suggest you get outside. beautiful tonight, about 70 at sky harbor. if you do go out, you'll notice it's much brighter than usual, about 30%, in fact, larger as well, about 14% compared to the average moon size, once again it will be full at 6:50 in the morning and won't return again until 2034. pretty clear conditions throughout california. as we get to the north, w little bit more activity this the pacific twh northwest. for us, really calm conditions, this front will continue to advance towards our neck of the woods, this low not really affecting the forecast. high pressure dominants the forecast for the next several days, 52 in kingman, nogales at 54, and the valley looking great at this hour as well. upper 60s in places like scottsdale and chandler, already

gateway and apache junction, goodyear at 70, surprise at 65, buckeye cooling down very nicely, in fact already in the 50s at this hour. record temp today, well, we weren't quite there. low 90s is what we saw for the record back in 1999 but we did get into the mid-80s, still above the seasonal norm, 79 where we ought to be, and if you're tired of the weather, we'll have to get through the next few days, and then we'll start to see the changes then. the pacific northwest, we are seeing a little bit of activity there. you'll notice wintry mix from the canadian border into the pacific northwest, rain showers there, otherwise the two main areas where we are focusing on are the fnz valley where there are all -- tennessee valley where there are all sorts of air quality alerts as a result of the wildfires. a mid atlantic low is making its way into new england region,

as we get into the next couple of days, we are going to remain clear. we are not going to see any rain showers like in the southeast. we'll see about 60 overnight in yuma, 37 for prescott, 31 for show low, 24 window rock, lower desserts in the 80s for tomorrow -- deserts in the 80s for tomorrow, 61 for show low, window rock at 66. relatively clear out there tonight. you'll see the clouds kind of clearing a bit. tomorrow, mostly sunny skies, once again above average, well builds into tuesday, start to see that cloud cover wednesday, a little bit of cooldown, and then this part of the forecast, what everybody has been waiting for, 70s in our forecast as we get toward the end of your workweek. >> sounds good, kristy, thank you. when we come back, more about the super moon. >> ooh!

fox 10 news is back. veterans day just a couple of days ago, but this weekend people paying tribute to our servicemen and women, and they did it with an annual honor walk. >> yeah, families gathered to downtown phoenix to commemorate those who serve the country, and the event had an exhibit where they profiled arizonans who died in iraq and afghanistan as vehicles, and even a replica of the u.s.s. arizona which was sunk in pearl harbor in 1941, as you know. one woman says the people in the armed services have a special bond. >> it's hard on the body, but the friendships and the camaraderie, i definitely made lifelong friends through the military. i know i can always reach out to other veterans, and they will understand what i'm going through at all times.

stick resort arena showed the names and photos of veterans who were registered on the honor walk website. scientists are turning their attention to the sky for this, the record breaking super moon! >> dun dun dun! >> right now the moon is not only the biggest and brightest of the year. we are mocking it, but it is fantastic. it will be the largest super moon since 1948, for crying out loud. nasa says appear up to brighter. >> anytime tonight or tomorrow night, take a look outside. the moon won't be this close to earth for another 18 years, but the indians will win a world series before then. >> i like that.
