fox 10 news alert. first on fox tonight, a major backup on valley freeways and this is one of the reasons, a crash involving multiple car, two of them caught fire. >> this was a bad scene. the crash happened a couple hours ago but the southbound lanes at loop 101 and us-60 are still closed. several vehicles and 10 people were involved in the crash and two of them were taken to the hospital with injuries. >> take a look at the backup after the crash. at one point, traffic was backed up from the loop 202 to us-60. right now, adot says the backup has improved but they are asking people to avoid the area. look at that picture. look at the headlights. you don't want to be in that. loop 101 traffic is being detoured to us-60. if you have somebody out there,

>> sky fox is out in far east mesa where sheriff deputies are looking for a hit-and-run suspect. this is near signal butte and university. >> this involved an elderly man riding his bike when he was struck by a car. the driver of the car ditched the vehicle and took off running. deputies continue to search for the suspect. >> as for the victim, he was flown to life-threatening injuries. turn to ago fox 10 news alert this time out of detroit where police took a person of interest into custody in connection with a shooting of police officers. the police officer that works at wayne state university in detroit was shot in the head tonight. the officer is a five-year veteran was on patrol investigating possible car break-ins when the shooting happened.

that ended right here here at 48th and thomas. when we talked to the victim a week ago or so, she had harsh words for the 911 operator. we talked to the 911 operator right in the middle of a 14-hour shift today. >> scottsdale 911, what is the address of your emergency. >> i don't know where i'm at. a guy is hitting into the back of me trying to kill me road. >> reporter: a scary incident on the road nearly two weeks ago. kathy was doing the best she could in the dispatch center to keep her cool. >> all i could hear was screaming the moment i picked it up. i felt like i was trying to figure out where she was and get her help. sometimes i felt like i was failing on it. >> reminded me that situation

people aren't following it. >> reporter: one of the hardest situations to get ahold of. the man in that crash tried to commit suicide a day after his arrest. it is clearly something that both women have thought about a lot in recent weeks. matt they say a man was spotted in a red car. officers followed the car in a home near 27th street and broadway that is when the guy got out of the car and ran away. that neighborhood is not in any danger. students at a chattanooga, tennessee, elementary school returning back to school after a horrific bus crash that killed five classmates. >> this small community is

memorial. marc martinez joins us live with the story. >> reporter: it is so hard to imagine the tragedy that is happening there. hundreds of people showing up to remember the young lives lost and to pray for the victims still recovery as investigators trying to figure out what happened. >> reporter: they came from all of tennessee, many with heavy hearts following a horrific school bus crash on monday that killed five children and injured >> i knew a lot of kids on the bus. i knew two that didn't survive. >> reporter: she met with the mother of one of the little boys killed in the bus crash. >> he was an only child and it is a struggle. i have one child myself. >> reporter: investigators are trying to figure out what caused the bus to veer out of control and hit a tree. they believe the driver, johnthony walker may have been

his mother says he called after the impact. >> get the kids off of the bus, bodies u.s. -- was everywhere and the phone disconnected. >> reporter: the school remained open today. grief counselors were on hand trying to console while parents tried to explain what happened. >> we have children right now fighting for their there have been at ministers at the hospital. we've been at the school. we try to get in everywhere we could. >> we're showing love and we should. these are children. we should be here. >> reporter: tonight, walker, the bus driver remains behind bars on five counts of vehicular manslaughter. he could be facing more charges.
