rescue there. they found a hiker on cholla trail who was too weak to hike down himself. he is in stable condition tonight. the michigan republican party. the dean of the university of arkansas law school has resignedded because of his reaction following donald trump's victory. the dean sent out an e-mail offering free counseling services to students who felt upset following the most in his words upsetting most painful most disturbing election season of my lifetime. end quote. the dean statement led to many questioning his ability to ensure a vibrant academic environment that would tre views equally. and treat students like adults. and you may wonder what happens to those political signs that line the roadways following the election, the ones that aren't taken down they are usually thrown into a landfill but one local organization has found a different solution. some of the signs have been sent here to keep phoenix beautiful. the community garden on central and indian school. there are signs that are being used to line garden beds.

it's a holiday tradition really a holiday tradition in the valley and tonight kicks off the 25th year of zoo lights. hundreds of displays made up of millions of lights and matt is live for the ckoff. you are new and this is your first year out there. >> you know what? we are watching just in case, you never know what you will find. it's snowing out here. i brought the weather with us here. so these are snow machines but they just lit the tree up. everybody is having a good time. as you mentioned this is the 25th year they have been doing the zoo lights festival here at

new this year is this big tree. it's a three story tree and it's brand-new. you talk to zoo folks here and they say it's the first time they have done this in recent memory and it's a they story tree. and all sorts of displays. hundreds of displays here. family that had a chance to light the tree won an auction to do some you hear the asu marching band, santa is in the house and a lot of -- people in the building and enjoying themselves tonight. this is going to g o couple of weeks and zoo folks -- zoo officials estimate that 300,000 people over the course of the next six weeks will work their way through the zoo to take a look at the lights and you see the sun go down and the lights take effect and pretty sight to see you can come in here for $11 and tickets start and it will stay open until 10:30 at tight and you have until january 8 if you want to see the lights. i'm going to get out of the way of the big christmas tree. you take a look and see how

hours a pick up truck that was pulling a fifth wheel trailer blew a tire right along i-17 at pinnacle peak road killing the man who was behind the wheel. we were told he and his 18-year-old daughter were going camping as part of an annual thanksgiving thatdation. fox 10's nicole garcia has more tonight. >> this is just a horrible tragedy and it really couldn't have happened at a worst time with the freeway filled with all of the thanksgiving travelers. take a look. this like right now this much is going northbound. we are right in between deer valley road and pinnacle peak road. there are a couple of lanes going north that are shut down and traffic is flowing on i-17 going north. but take a look at the traffic here on the frontage road and gives you an idea of how backed up this particular area is. also take a look at the pickup. that is the pickup that was involved in this deadly crash. we are told a driver was not wearing his seat belt.

thanksgiving camping trip now grieving the loss of their father. he was driving the pickup towing this large rv when a tire blew out. he lost control. >> basically the equivalent of a small home. >> the group of phoenix firefighters were on the freeway at the same time and immediately stopped to help. >> squad 29 on their way back from training were two cars behind it when it happened. if there was any chance we would make a save on this accident it was going to be with four highly trained behind them. unfortunately the fatal ones were just too much for our resuscitative effort. >> the driver's 18-year-old daughter was in the pickup with him. she was not hurt. his two sons were driving behind the rv. the children in shock and disbelief. firefighters say they wanted to stay at the deadly crash site not wanting to leave their father. >> when i did talk to one of the sons, it sounds like this is a family tradition.
