>> dana: 35,000 homes, more than 80,000 people being impacted by these evacuation warnings. not all of them are mandatory however. one 83-year-old man didn't leave his home and tells us how he tried to fight the flames. [indiscernible] . >> dana: he said i was going down with the shift there. more than 1300 people are bat this will fire. eight helicopters, eight air tankers, two large air tankers and right now the fire remains 0% contained. >> kim: that smoke making its way to southern nevada. we're going to get an update on what to expect in the skies in a

the 15 shut down yesterday. from what we understand people can now get to us in las vegas using the 15. if we want to go from las vegas to los angeles, a different route is going to have to be taken. that's where our live team coverage comes into play. >> dana: tom is going to talk about that in just a little bit. we saw a lot of memo yesterday morning, cleared out in the afternoon. what do we expect today? >> kelly: a lit sky. clouds and showers south of las vegas. light showers. we could see some of that this afternoon as well. hazy conditions as you head out the door this mornings, 91, 99 by noon and chance of showers in the afternoon. high today 104. we'll talk more about the haze and rain chances in about 10 minutes. >> tom: we are starting with a little work in town.

the freeways locally, travel times all running in the green up to speed. as we noted heading for california that is a no go. south bound i15 is backwards -- south bound is closed and north bound is open. if we expect anyone from california that is not a problem but getting there you have to go to pair blossom highway and >> breaking news about trouble for swimmers taking off from brazil to the u.s. last night. this comes as they try to investigate what happened with that reported robbery. ryan lochte talking about it saying they were held at gunpoint and robbed. the two are being questioned

confirming that jack and gunner were detained. the u.s. state department stands ready to provide all appropriate assistance. definitely a story we continue to follow. >> kim: you are going to hear matt's conversation with ryan lochte this morning since all of this has just broken overnight. matt was on the phone with him and he's going to recount that conversation rob this program before this local story could play out in any community in america. michelle joins us live. we talk about heroin use in america, you hear the candidates talk about it on the campaign trail. when it hits close to home and you hear from family members, it is obvious that drug was made by the devil. it rips families apart.

problem with heroin. they say it's up almost 40%. 76 people overdosed on this drug just last year. that's a big jump from the year before. not only are we talking to family members but we're talking to actual users who admit this is a big problem and they are trying to get clean. one of them we spoke to is a recovering addict and right now a patient here where we are at west care'sa triage center going through medical detox. we talked to the director here. he says the triage center saw an increase in clients who claim opiates are their primary drug, many of them admit their addiction started with prescription painkillers, then they switched over to heroin. she says the reason that she became addicted and many others as well is because it's accessible anywhere in the

>> many young people and again not unique to our community but we have not seen these type of numbers for heroin overdose and fatality since the 1970's. >> it took one thing in my life, i lost everything in 2011 and then i justifying you'red i had nothing left to lose. you have so much more to she's trying to get clean and this time stay clean for her son. there are a lot of different programs in town for detox and there are programs to help you stay on track after you finish with detox. >> kim: being in the news business, we've become way too close to stories like this that have ripped local families apart. it is a dire situation but i'm glad they are starting to address it more intensely.

what is this? more smoke moving in. we expect hazy conditions again in the air this morning. it will clear out in the afternoon and we have a chance for wet wet weather this afternoon. here is a look at the temperatures heading out this morning. paradise 84. sunrise 85 and centennial you are 81. activity yesterday, a couple of showers in henderson, boulder city and lastig now a lot of rain showers near phoenix. as we zoom in closer between search light a couple of light showers, probably not making it to the ground and kingman seeing light shower activity. we could see showers in our area as we get into the afternoon. now here is a look at the forecast for today. hazy conditions this were month, 104 is our expected high. isolated showers, thunderstorms possible during the afternoon

to share this. north bound 15 is open going from l.a. to las vegas. south bound 15, you still got to get off the freeway. how is south bound closed but north bound is open? >> tom: if you drive through that area, there is a big split at the top and bottom of the pass. so you have a long distance between the north and south bound lanes with one side higher on the hill than the other. i'm going to so you have the fire raging by the south bound lane while the north bound lane there is no activity going on over there. they were able to clear the north bound lane. you can get to las vegas, just
