forever tarnished? we'll look into this more in the next half hour. >> kim: live team coverage from rio this morning. we have kelly curran standing by with your weekend forecast. jeff is all overtravel times. on top of the morning commute is tom up in sky 3. >> kelly: we're going to wea cloudy skies we're seeing outside this morning. right now we're looking at temperatures in the upper 70's and low 80's. dry conditions for us now but 99 at noon, a chance of showers and thunderstorms, better chance as we get toward 4:00. 103 for the expected high here today. we're going to talk more about the thunderstorm chances plus the air quality coming up in a few minutes.

3. if you are headed out the door, we have one freeway accident to tell you about 215 eastbound at jones. not seeing a lot of slowing as a result. there is a little bit of slowing at washington. a small stretch going through the bowl where it's going to take you eight minutes from downtown to tropicana. everything else in the clear. >> krystal: from the breaking news desk, we've been follow what ultimately turned out to be a deadly crash between two transit bushes in new jersey. one person killed in this crash. it was one of the drivers of the bus. we'll continue to follow the story to get an idea of the extent of the injuries of the passengers on board. at last check 18 people were injured. from the breaking news desk i'm crystal allen and we'll send it

cut fire which is burning about three hours from las vegas. things are on the improve there. interstate 15 now open in both directions. >> if there is anything positive that can come from this blue cut fire, it's here at the fairgrounds. this is where many people that were evacuated and i want to show you what is behind me here, they are holding animals here fro bring their animals here. right now the san bernardino county leaders tell us back in those pins there are 26 pigs, 248 goats and sheep. 123 horses. they tell me some of the animals that were saved still have not been claimed by their owners. and they have a simple system out there to keep track of the animals whose owners are out there.

other side of the fairgrounds here helping to shelter folks who still can't go back to their homes. we talked to one woman staying here. >> i didn't want to leave because i didn't want to sit in that little valley with all that smoke around us again. it was like we were trapped. >> some evacuations have been lifted but many people still can't go back evacuations will be lifted. >> kim: before we let you go, it's pretty clear in town as far as the air quality. what is it like there? >> we've been here for two days now, it is getting so much better. yesterday you could see a vast improvement. it was blue skies out here

difference in air quality even this morning. >> kim: good then we can all breathe a sigh of relief. the man suspected of stabbing and injuring that metro canine officer we all came to love known as nikki is facing a judge today. kendall all over this developing story. she joins us live from downtown las vegas with the latest. >> reporter: good i can tell you that simmons is expected to stand before a judge behind me later this morning. a common routine checking on his counsel making sure he has proper representation from an attorney. the last time he was 234 court he was in a wheelchair bandaged from wounds he received during a nine-hour standoff.

police dog, destruction of state property and resisting a police officer with a deadly weapon. communicating with him through a robot that was damaged and broken down by the suspect. nikki the canine managed to bite the suspect multiple times. this case got a lot of attention specifically in support of officer nikki who after time off healing returned to duty. unfortunately he wasat unrelated case with a murder suspect. a lot of attention around this canine officer who is now resting in peace. >> dana: time to take you live to rio. the lovely and talented chloe is standing by.

involved in this crash involving two transit buses was the result of one of the buses running a red light and broadsiding the other bus. according to the new jersey transit the driver of one of the buses was killed. 19 passengers injured in this crash, 7 critically. a very tragic scene unfolding out of new jersey this morning. >> kim: thank you very much. from that breaking news to this the blue cut fire continues to grow. the glimmer of good news 15 is open in both direction this is morning. for details on the latest on this fire that's had local implications we check in with christy. you are saying this morning it's dramatically better than it was yesterday morning at this time. >> it is so much better.

right behind me there are volunteers walking horses and taking care of some of the other animals back here that the people had to evacuate. some of the animals haven't been claimed that were pulled off of farm lands out h of. some of those animals have been saved out here. the american red cross is taking care of people out here as well. and we will have more on those evacuations coming up later today. >> dana: we also have an air quality advisory in effect for southern nevada today. when you look at the skies above las vegas, it looks much better

donald trump took to the stage in charlotte, north carolina yesterday. >> sometimes in the heat of debate and speaking on a multitude of issues, you don't choose the right words or you say the wrong thing. i have done that and believe it or not, i regret it. >> dana: live to our nation's capitol. edward lawrence is joining us this morning. is donald trump admitting he made some mistakes? >> he apparently is saying he regrets some of his words. sort of like casinos after a decade he got a makeover. this is donald trump 2.0. donald trump now saying he regrets some of the words in the heat of the moment. he chooses the wrong word.

have a great weekend. >> kim: our live team coverage from rio continues this morning with chloe who has done a bang up job reporting from rio during the past two weeks. she joins us live again. it's fun to get a tour of the olympic village during all of the olympic games. i learned something new because of you this morning what is going on in rio. do tell. >> there is a lot to talk about. we have cool video that i shot just the to olympic village when i was interviewing the u.s. boxing coach. the thing that took my breath away is these buildings. looks like a city within itself. the buildings are like sky scraper like. very big and you can see many countries are represented with flags and other decorations hanging from the windows and balconies. you may notice that there is a

for safety reasons team u.s.a. does not decorate the area where the athletes are staying due to safety concerns. most of the athletes since the games are wrapping up have dispersed and most of the events are finishing up as you can see. a lot of them are seeing the sights in rio right now. there are still a few staying in the safety is apples a top priority. no decorations from the u.s. but they were certainly present for these games. for that medal count, we are pretty proud of that. >> dana: team u.s.a. keeping a low profile.

the decathlon gold medal yesterday. he won gold four years ago in london and did so again yesterday on the track. he had to compete in 10 events over two days. and he's just glad he won the gold again. >> how much pressure were you feeling standing at the beginning of that race? >> normally i'm very nervous and feel a locality of pressure. i thought i'm willing to run myself to the hosp i to. >> this comes 40 years after bruce jenner won the decathlon in montreal. we have a proud history of american men winning the decathlon. >> kim: we have a proud tom up in sky 3. he would get the gold medal for news 3 today. >> tom: so far no medals around the neck yet but we'll keep on trying our best. we have a good situation out here as we approach rampart.
