>> dana: a local middle school was on lockdown for hours. it was a long night for all of these parents. some students were locked in their middle school for up to 17 hours. kendall joins us live with the latest. >> good morning. i can tell you just about two hours ago every single student here at walter johnson , jr. high was released to their parents. the parking lot on the west side a very different scene fromus particular attention to the look on these parents faces, many of them extremely concerned because they not only went all day but 58-night without seeing their child after mercury was found in the gym here on campus. we're hearing from the school district and fire department it was a student who brought the mercury into the area. the school district sent out a statement saying the kids were held back as the environmental protection agency inspected each

checking their clothing and backpacks. we've been reaching out to find out what happened during that 17 hour or deal. here is what we learned. >> teacher telling us y'all need to hurry up and take y'all kids to the doctor, it's more than what they are saying. >> the big question this morning what happens when you are mercury. we reached out to a local doctor. we'll have that answer coming up in about 30 minutes. >> krystal: no one wanting to take any chances in that situation. we're talking about this murder suspect here in north las vegas managing to escape from an interrogation room.

>> reporter: good morning. this is really an incredible story. alonzo perez breaking free from handcuffs climbing into the ceiling gone for 40 minutes before anyone noticed. he was under the watchful eye of security video but no one was watching the feed is what we learned from police. we have the video and it shows break for it. 25 minutes into his escape he encountered a detective but still managed to escape. it was a terrible mistake and changes are being made. >> he takes a chair and puts it up against the wall, climbs up on the chair, knocks out ceiling tiles, climbs into the rafters and exits the building.

the gym. it can be very dangerous, especially if you breathe it in. members of the epa moved in and according to epa guidelines they had to test each student for mercury exposure before they could let them go home but they had limited testing equipment so they could only release five or so students at a time. the school noon yesterday. the final students were released at 4:30 this morning. >> krystal: such a long night for the parents and students. metro police looking for three masked robbers this morning. for that we go to michelle with the latest. what are we learning? >> michelle: these men held up multiple businesses in the southwest part of the valley. you can see these are still pictures taken from the surveillance cameras.
