emergency. the national guard on high alert in the streets after one protester was shot, another seriously injured when a second night of violence overtook the streets. the shooting victim remains in critical condition. morph than a dozen others have been arrested as rioting and looting was seen throughout the downtown charlotte area, and police can be seen in riot gear shooting tear gas and marching through the streets of charlotte's downtown area. one demonstrator told was protesting in the streets. >> we're out here to send a message that we will no longer allow for people to keep being killed by police officers. we're not going to allow it. and it's not going to be allowed anymore, and there has to be a sense of accountability on all sides. especially from the police department and especially when there's people being killed and there's no one held accountable for it. it's not about violence. it's about standing and letting

the moment they say that we need to leave the vicinity, i'm not taking a step back. >> the second night of riots came after an african-american male, keith lamont scott, was shot dead by police when they arrived at an apartment complex to serve another individual with an warrant. that's when they encountered scott who police say was armed and refused called to drop his weapon. scott's family said he was pick carrying a book when he was kilded. family, members of the community, protesters, were all demanding videos to be made public. the city's mayor said she has yet to view any police video of the incident. she plans on doing so this evening. the officer who ultimately shot scott did not have a body cam on during the incident. for more, we're joined by sarah ruzaurio in charlotte. what's the latest out there? >> that's what people are protesting.

they're taking to the streets. hundreds of people taking to the streets last night, marching through uptown charlotte, as you just saw in the video, protesting the shooting death of 43-year-old keith scott. we have anger, racial tensions boiling over after yet another officer-involved shooting. the police, as you mentioned, came out to try to calm the crowd and try to get them to disperse and try to protest at least silently, and they had to use flash bombs and rubber bullets just to try to get people to calm down, but it didn't work. protesters continued. it started out as a peaceful protist, but then as night fell, things continued to get violent. when protesters got to the center of the city, bullets rang out at one point and that's when the protester was shot. police are saying that protester was shot by a civilian and thought by police.
