there on the scene. >> dana: happening today the vice presidential candidate on the democratic side tim kaine here in southern nevada talking one on one with news 3. more on this craig reports live in henderson. >> reporter: kaine did talk about a very important issue for voters in nevada, namely yuka nuclear waste for spent nuclear fuel stored about 80 miles from las vegas. news 3 talking with him about it and getting a direct answer from him. this was last night after his rally. wednesday jim snider talked with donald trump who couldn't give a yes or no about whether or not he would support the currently waste dump.

our sister station. >> kim: let's focus on the special session that is red do i get started on monday to consider an increase in the hotel room tax to help build that football stadium here locally. the plan recommended by the infrastructure committee relies on $750 million of public money raised by a hike on the hotel room tax. the rest will be paid for consider tweaking that tax increase to pay for a short fall in education funding. a lot of people are upset with his stance when it comes to funding education, a lot of anyway sayers about what the governor is doing. >> they say they will not address that so republicans saying they may be hold their support for the stadium.

the train's engineer hit the emergency brake less than a second before the train slammed into the bumper at the end of the rail line. it went airborne and one woman lost her life standing there on the platform and more than 100 people were injured with this train crash. >> dana: the noble peace prize has been awarded to columbian president for his efforts to end a five decade long civil war that has killed more 200,000 people in columbia. this award is ironic in that he just worked out a peace deal with the rebels but voters had to approve it. they went to the polls earlier this week and did not narrowly voting down this peace deal. they are trying to save this thing but unknown whether they are going to be able to do so. >> kim: we do traffic and weather every 10 minutes. tom as we check in with you, we

by for an update on hurricane matthew. >> dana: here we are in the weather center and kelly curran with the latest on matthew. >> kelly: we are continuing to watch this storm. the latest track category three hurricane at 5:00 a.m. 120-mile per hour sustained winds. this is earlier from palm bay, florida. homes and buildings in central florida along the coast could be devastating along the coast. up and the storm going by and seeing how bad this devastation is and if it's like what we've seen from the bahamas and cuba and haiti, it's probably not going to be a good situation. here is what we're looking at as far as the radar picture as the storm continues to track north-northwest at 13. it's hugging the coastline therefrom you see the heavy

beach area right now. that's why we're seeing heavier bands of showers and strong winds. that have it's on to jacksonville and then on to georgia. here is the track. category three storm working along the coast starting to turn to the east as it gets off the coast of georgia weakening, a category two and weakening more to a category one by saturday morning and the bahamas as a tropical storm. we're going to keep an eye on this one over the weekend and into next week. at home it's beautiful conditions. we're waiting for the sun to come up. a few high thin clouds out there and that's about it. here is a look at the temperatures. north las vegas 55. mountains edge 58. you are going to want a sweater this morning. this afternoon pleasant weather

town center. we've had work going on for a couple of months to put a barrier rail up to make it safer in the event a vehicle got out of control because we've seen terrible crossover accidents. right now lanes are open both directions so no delay on the summerlin parkway. let's continue with jeff. >> jeff: 15 southbound getting slow on this friday. we'll bring up that travel time. it's the only slow spot at the nt 7 minutes from downtown to tropicana. we are clear so far of accidents on the freeways. let's get a check of your forecast can kelly. >> kelly: we are continuing to track hurricane matthew. you can see live images behind me showing the winds, the waves. we have storm surge on the way 7-11 feet in some locations. potentially 8-12 inches of rainfall along the coast.

there is that eye creeping north-northwest ward working towards jacksonville. here at home much quieter conditions looking at sunny skies. the high today 84. >> kim: as hurricane matthew continues to rage up the florida eastern seaboard, those in the path are bracing for impact. >> reporter: we're here on folly beach which charleston. i can already feel the rain coming down and this area is a big concern for the governor and emergency management officials. they announced in a news conference yesterday this particular area encouraging people to leave. they are worried about the high wind, more rain and storm surge saying this storm surge could be bigger than what people experienced during hurricane hugo. they definitely want people to leave this area. you can't get into this area

and trampling over each other. this clown issue is one of dozens that are erupted across the valley this week and school district police are fed up. school leaders are getting calls from worried parents as they try to express the clown crisis is a hoax here locally. they found no credibility to these sightings and there has not been a single incident of clowns chasing or injuring children in the the problem that the threats of a clown crisis are getting out of hand even though they are not real. >> i got pushed into a corner. a door opened and i was thrown into the hallway. some people got their glasses broken and got their ipads stepped on. >> threats of clown accounts on social media have been reported. anyone found making threats in

>> we have reports of an early morning fire that broke out at the meadows mall. the las vegas fire and rescu telling us it broke out in a storage shed. there were reports initially that it started in a trash can and spread to the storage shed. they were able to put it out. fire officials say that they don't think this should affect the mall opening. if that is part of your plan today you should be ok. >> kim: happening today the man accused of killing a customer inside a local starbucks should appear before a local judge

changed. clinton getting ready for the debate on sunday. presidential debate commission says it's in st. louis not in the eye of the storm but it's on despite the concern about resources headed down to deal with that. donald trump went to new hampshire to do a town hall. he saided the nothing to do with the town hall debate on sunday which he has not done for months. he said it wasn't a dry run he has property in south florida. he said he talked with folks down there and talked with the governor of florida. if they tell you to get out, evacuate. florida's governor says when it comes to voting, their voter registration deadline in that important battleground state is tuesday. a lot of people wondering if they will have power come tuesday. a lot of them out.

one hour showing 7 minutes but that is going to be worse because of that accident. we'll continue to keep our eyes on it. traffic and weather every 10 minutes. >> kelly: we are tracking hurricane matthew. we're going to jump to the graphics now where you can see that storm moving north-northwest at 13 miles per hour. still a category three storm with maximum sustained winds at 120 miles per hour. lots of heavy rain coming down with this storm. as we zm beach to jacksonville thunderstorm activity anticipating not just the strong winds but heavy rain. we were seeing that storm surge in that video. we'll bring you updates throughout the day on that. category three storm expected to track along the coast, even curving with the coast as it passes by georgia weak tongue a category two. then south carolina decreasing to a category one and wrapping
