local mobile home park. we're live at the scene with the latest. >> kim: more breaking news on the streets across our great nation. people outraged. a lot of people saying not my president. in addition they are saying don't touch my school. we have the developing story headed your way. you are waking up to breaking news that is dire in nature. we take to you been shot and we got word not long ago that one of them has lost his life. the other critically wounded being treated right now at a hospital in that area. it's in the pittsburgh area. details just being released. from what we understand those officers were responding to a call in the area south of pittsburgh when they were shot about 4:00 in the morning their time. you go back three hours las vegas time.

under way for the gunmen. >> dana: one man fighting for his life after getting shot about an hour ago at a mobile home park at lake mead and nellis. that's where we find michelle. >> michelle: good morning. not a lot of information from police right now. they are investigating, this in the early stages of this investigation. what we do know is a little less than two hours ago neighbors say they heard a loud least one of them. people ran outside and found the man lying in the street. that man was taken to the hospital. police are now out here investigating and that is all we know. they are not talking eight now. this is in the early stages of the investigation. they'll be out here for some time as they try to figure out what happened. we don't know if they are looking for somebody or have somebody in custody.

to you. >> dana: we welcome you in on this thursday. we're the wagners. it has been a violent morning here in southern nevada. >> kim: we do traffic and weather together every 10 minutes on the program. we have kelly in the weather center talking about your day today, what you should be wearing before you head out the door. we have jeff all over travel times. as we begin with tom up in sky 3, tom is above another breaking news event in our community. another death in our valley at the 7/eleven. we don't know the circumstances but we know that one person was shot here in the predawn hours, was taken to the hospital and died. they have the crime tape around here. the place is completely sealed off. you can see on civic center as well they have the back entrance taped off. we're not sure where the

they investigate this. one person dead as a result of that. we have a ground reporter on the way to get more information we'll bring you throughout the newscast. doesn't look like it's affecting the flow of traffic but a full police investigation with a death involved. we go to team traffic and jeff. >> jeff: traffic and weather every 10 minutes. one freeway accident to talk about on this thursday and that is 215 eastbound. it's not on the freeway but the off ramp as you exit traffic able to pass by it and not seeing any slowing on that stretch. however we are on 15 southbound, typical traffic at this time, a 10 minute commute. >> kelly: and the sun getting ready to come up this morning. @s in the 50's so a little cool but it's going to warm up. looking at highs around the 80-degree mark. lunchtime 77.

and enjoy but the cooler temperatures are on the way. we'll talk about it in 10 minutes. >> dana: happening today, just two hours from now, president elect donald trump set to visit president obama at the white house as we take a live look at the white house this morning. president obama called mr. trump early wednesday morning to congratulate him on his victory and invite him to the white house where he will receive an update on transition plans. chris christie, the transition team. donald trump and his wife melania headed to the white house in a couple of hours from now. there is a lot of animosity between these two. donald trump led the birther movement. >> kim: as president obama welcomes in to the white house the incoming president, these people are saying it's not a welcome thing at all. many people taking to the streets across our great nation

this is in the los angeles area. people blocked a major highway. the crowd then moving on to a highway where they came face to face with officers. now to portland where they protest against president elect donald trump. protestors marching through the treats streets of downtown where there were reports of damage to businesses including windows. >> dana: a protest took place in the valley in front of the trump hotel. fewer than 100 people showed up there. one of many protests across the country. in washington, d.c. the protest reached the gates of the white house as they had a candlelight vigil there. >> kim: as protests played out, there is another protest that has nothing to do with the president of the united states. it has to do with a local middle

check in with craig. >> reporter: good morning. the nevada department of education says that 57,000 students across the state of nevada are in what they describe as persistly struggling schools and the state claims that achievement school districts are the key to turning those schools around. this has been identified as a potential achievement school. yesterday hundreds of parents, plan to change the way the school is operated. as an achievement school it would be operated by a private charter school company. teachers claim the change limits options for special need students. >> when the child comes into our school, they are automatically plugged into the resources and interventions that they need. have you to remember that over one of two of our students do not finish the school year and are replaced by another student by the time we have state

>> reporter: that was one teacher from that school explaining why the school has had trouble. there are 90 schools under performing for the up coming school year, they say that the total of six of them could become achievement school district schools. >> dana: we're getting our first look at the man police say shot two people on if las vegas strip. jackson is his name. he's facing two we know police say the shooting happened early monday morning on a pedestrian bridge between a planet hollywood and cosmopolitan. an arrest report says he got into an argument and shoving match and fired a single shot which hit both people. police then found jackson in the miracle mile parking garage where he was arrested without incident. >> kim: a staffer from a local high school who was arrested on

he's 35 years old. arrested on campus monday and facing criminal charges, sex with a student and criminal kidnapping. parents were notified about this arrest tuesday through the district parent link phone system. they hired this man to work at the school in october of last year. he's supposed to roam the hallways. he's a campus monitor, check on students dur into the bathrooms, hallways while everyone is on campus during the school day. he is on unpaid leave and as this story continues to play out, we'll have updates on later news editions here on channel 3. >> dana: parts of a northwest valley intersection blocked off after police say a man set packages on fire at a local store. happened just after 3:00 yesterday at the target store.

from the store and then tried to ignite them. he left the store on foot, was hit by a car while an officer chased him. he was taken to umc. we don't know his condition, his name or what charges he's going to face. >> kim: local police hoping you can help identify some men caught on surveillance camera stealing from local phone stores. really good images of the people on your screen right now. you see we've zoomed in and you can see their facial features. notve identity. they've been involved anyway series of burglaries on the west side of town. one of three will go into the store and pose as customers. they ask to look at a smartphone. when the employee isn't looking the thieves cut the security wire and take off out the door. local law enforcement saying they were spotted leaving in that faded black chevy malibu

>> dana: we have breaking news. one person shot and killed outside of the 7/eleven. this is located just about a block east of interstate 15 and less than a mile to the west of the college of southern nevada. they have a campus up in the northeastern part of the las vegas valley. kendall is live at the scene. we're going to check in with her coming up in a little bit. >> kim: a man shunt under way in seattle after five people were shot in that there saying that two of the people of the five who have been shot have life threatening injuries. the shooting happened as an anti-trump protest was under way nearby. officials are not tying two together. not related to the protest. police are searching for the people responsible. >> dana: the coroner identified

investigators removed the shipping container where authorities found kayla brown chained and screaming for help. this they found her boyfriend buried on the land. the coroner identified two other bodies found. according to the coroner preliminary test suggest both died of gunshot wounds. todd is in custody. >> kim: the search continues this morning for a fibberman whose boat capsized off the coast of california. he was one of five people on board that boat overtaken by a large wave. life guards jumped into the water swimming out to the victims and pulled two people to shore.

we're not sure what we have going on here but owens avenue is completely closed to travel both directions just east of las vegas boulevard with an investigation centering on this area right here. we see several people. we've done a zoom in on it to try and figure out what is going on but nothing is obvious. they have a full fledged investigation. with owens closed lake mead is on one side and washington on watch out for that closure of owens. >> jeff: a new accident has popped up. the freeways for the most part are clear. relatively unchanged one hour

local 7/eleven close to a college campus. a live report from the scene in moments. >> kim: right now we have breaking news that takes us to pennsylvania. while most of you were sleeping you are waking up to news that two police officers were shot. one of the officers has lost his life. another crica recovering at a metropolitan in the pittsburgh area. they believe those officers were ambushed. those officers were responding to a call when all of a sudden they were shot out of nowhere. a search is under way as we speak for a gunman. >> dana: breaking news in the valley. a man shot and killed at a local 7/eleven. kendall is on the scene. there is a news coverage going on there currently. police officers are informing

kendall getting ready. what can you tell us? >> reporter: we can tell you one man was shot and killed out here this morning. it was an armed robbery. there was a citizen inside the store at that time. multiple people. it was the citizen that shot that suspect as he made his way inside the store for an armed robbery. that suspect was shot multiple times pronounced dead at umc. we talked to law enforcement civilian stepping in. it is boast have the people involved call 911 so officers come in. there is no one in custody. this incident started around 3:30 this morning. you can see a heavy police presence around the area. an armed suspect that came into the 7 eleven suspected of wanting to rob the place.

happening today hundreds of trucks have started filling up that massive sink hole at that intersection in japan. it took over five lanes of traffic. city workers busy using one dump truck after another to load gravel into that hole rushing to fill that gaping hole that appeared suddenly two days ago. >> dana: tom is our traffic reporter and breaking news reporter. you were above a shootg >> tom: we're covering both those things the traffic and breaking news. i15 northbound slow because of a small accident on the shoulder here i15 northbound and charleston. the breaking news is a shooting on owens avenue which is closed to the east of las vegas boulevard. police investigating this area where we understand that a homeless person was shot in the overnight hours and later died at the hospital. owens avenue is closed. more coming up on that.

a search still under way for the gunman. >> dana: we have breaking news here in the las vegas valley. a man shot and killed at a 7/eleven at interstate 15. that's where we find kendall. i want to make sure i have the facts straight on this. a robber goes into that 7/eleven and a regular citizen shoots and killed him? >> reporter: that is correct. this man suspected of attempting t another person was inside that store. police telling us that he was here working, wasn't an employee but was doing work for them. he was armed and stepped? shooting that suspect. that suspect was taken to umc where he later died. the suspect made his way outside the store and was picked up and transported to the hospital. you can see definitely heavy

the employee who was here working is also here on scene. i spoke to a man who says he helps out with security in the area. he was not here during the early morning hours and believes that was one of the reasons why the armed suspect attempted to come to the 7/eleven to rob them but didn't make it. this incident starting around 3:30 this morning. the suspect pronounced dead at umc. >> kim: we have another breaking news element. michelle is standing by at a local mobile home park. somebody is fighting for their life after being shot at that location. we've learned more information since the last time we checked

we've learned he's a hispanic male fighting for his life at umc trauma. neighbors heard gunshots. police don't know how the suspect in this case got away but they believe the hispanic male got into a fight with a white male and the white male was the one who pulled the trigger. metro does not believe the victim lived in the park and does not appear to be a gang relation here. i did talk to a neighbor who was woken up by that quite often in this neighborhood but never so close. he believes this was an altercation that may have something to do with drugs. that is something they see a lot of with neighbors in that area. i have not gotten that confirmed by police but they believe this was an argument and this neighbor tells me he's not surprised. as soon as we get more information we'll head your way with an update.

middle school. craig is on this story for us this morning. what are they upset about, craig? >> they are unhappy because this school has been underperforming and set to become an achievement school district school. that means it will be operated by a private charter school company. teachers, parents, students, they say that it would disadvantage special needs students at that particular campus so they held a protest and held signs and made some noise about it. will this change the decision to make it an achievement school district we don't know. there are six schools within the district set to become such schools because they are underachieving and the school district believes that is one way to turn them around. we are at clark county school district headquarters this thursday morning. >> kim: president elect donald

inside where he is going to be living today. he's headed to the white house for a briefing from the current president obama as the transition begins. >> we are now all rooting for his success in uniting and leading the country. >> kim: nbc's tracy potts joins us to talk about this transition. we've been monitoring live images out of reagan national airport where we expect to see in an hour from now they are expected to have this meeting and they haven't been in the same space in some three years. >> exactly. sort of a brief meeting at an event. these are not two men that have a personal relationship at all but they've been at each other publicly. it will be interesting to see if that dynamic changes now that trump is about to take president obama's place in a matter of 10 weeks.
