birthday present. thank you for joining us. i'm reed cowan. >> i'm jim snyder. for the first time an emotional willie worthams comes face to face with the mother of those young men. it's our top story at 6:00. news 3's kelsey thomas was in court for that and is live at the regional justice center. >> reporter: a rare exchange if you think about it. a tearful apology as that mother tries to explain the pain she's dealing >> i'm sorry. >> reporter: a tearful willie worthams apologizing to a mother struggling to foregive as she prepares to bury her two sons. >> i don't have it in my heart to forgive. so sorry doesn't cut it. >> reporter: the two brothers were in inseparable. >> i just had to see him for myself. >> reporter: in a blue jail jump suit with his hands shackled,

willie worthams looked her in the eye. >> when i look at him, i don't see a bad person. when i look at him, i see my boys. they are like the same age. >> reporter: police say willie worthams admitted to drinking four hennesseys before the crash. >> just for that split second, he made a careless decision. >> reporter: according to officers, he was racing a small green toyota pickup the posted speed limit. but the identity of that other driver is a mystery. >> he pulled over. like you couldn't check on my boys? i mean, you couldn't -- coward. >> reporter: words from a mother who knows that driver could have crucial information about the moments leading up to the crash that forever changed her family. >> come forward.

willie worthams' case was continued. he's expected back in court in january. back to you. take a close look at the two men in this surveillance video. they broke into a parked car and then took a gun kept inside. news 3's sergio avila is live in summerlin where it happened. one of the victims is concerned about their own safety tonight? >> reporter: reed, yeah, they don't want to be on camera. a friend of us today from here. it all happened here in this summerlin neighborhood it's called capris and the thieves learned today that moments passed and they were almost caught in the act. it was thanksgiving night, just past 9:30. robert covel had just returned to a friend's house and his suv was parked out front. >> we went out to dinner and

door, our truck was broken into. >> reporter: he had this firearm inside. he didn't realize it was gun until the next day. but he checked his friend's surveillance video and saw two suspects going through his suv. >> violated. that's all i can say. >> reporter: the first question, why was this suv not locked back up? they were inside for about five minutes and the far less. >> yes, i should lock my vehicle every time. i was in transition of going in and coming right back out. i was bringing stuff in, and within that time of bringing stuff in and out and getting back in the car, it happened within four minutes. >> reporter: take a look at these two men. they are both seen on surveillance video rummaging through covele's car. after the burglary, one seems to look at the camera.

multiple break-ins around the area. she's definitely concerned. >> reporter: others say they were also hit. some had christmas decorations taken. others had their cars broken into with watches and screens taken. >> i want to get the guys caught. >> reporter: the suspects' images are all over social media. the gun has been reported stolen. covel hopes the pair is caught and thrown in jail. if you have any information on those two call police. no doubt people here being extra vigilant after these incidents on thanksgiving. reporting live, sergio avila, news 3, back to you in the studio. >> thank you for that. the suspected accomplice in a deadly neighborhood shooting denied bail. derrick andrews is a codefendant along with eric krash in the death of tammy meyer. the pair agreed to a plea deal

terrorizing half a dozen. news 3's antonio castelan joins us live near nellis and sahara with that story. >> reporter: jim, police are hoping since images will lead to an arrest. many business owners at this shopping complex say they are very aware of this robbery suspect and they say now they have weapons to protect themselves. the pictures were taken at businesses and convenience stores in the southeast valley during a in early november. >> he's definitely scary. >> reporter: this salon owner says she was one of griffin's robbery owners. she said he came up with a gun and demanded money. >> i start shaking, you know. and when he left, i started to cry. >> reporter: police say he has robbed six stores.

mile. they are now at sahara and paradise where there is a mcdonald's. they are holding up signs -- up signs i saying they want $15. everything is peaceful. i noticed three minutes ago on a side street, a group of officers were waiting and they came out along with a mounted patrol. three officers on horseback. they are keeping an eye on everything. everything has been peaceful but these protesters did say they were prepared to matter of holding up signs and they are on the corner. police coned off a lane. but it looks like right now, southbound paradise completely closed approaching sahara. a lot of people out here who were sort of having a little staredown with police across the roadway but for the moment, everything completely peaceful as they continue their fight for 15 protests. tom hawley reporting from sky 3. >> thank you. coming up -- there's been a

parts of clark county. we had a sparkling clear day out at red rock. if you squint and even if you don't, you might see a few fair weather cumulus includes pop up. that was the only blemish in the sky. a few were evident from the east valley. look how clear it is. the spring mountain is sharp and focused across the valley as the sun went down. love that view of the sunset. we'll begy on -- begin on the washington and mount hood. 53 degrees. college and 95, they are counsel -- down at 46 and blowing at 2 -- at 2. southern highlands is at 45. north las vegas at 46. those would be the neighborhoods that would have a better chance of seeing 30, 31, possibly 32 for that morning low temperature.

blowing, there's no friction an and the cold air settles down. outside of the valley, the mountain is at 20. no shock there. pioche at 29. overton coming in at 48. earlier today, our high temperature was 57 degrees. that's 3 below normal but because the morning low was 4 above if that holds by midnight this will go down above-normal day because 4 is a little more than 3. i did get a good grade in math. air quality is good. everything is sparkling out there across the las vegas valley. okay. let's check in the morning low temperature. it should be in the mid-30s officially at mccarran. some around the edges, 30, 31. it will be close. it won't be a hard freeze. it will be a tease right at that

wind-wise calm. plenty of sunshine as high pressure -- actually, that will be a dominant weather feature for a couple of days. there's plenty of action upstream. we have two more rounds of winds in the seven-day forecast. let me spill it out. teens on the mountains. boulder city should stay above laughlin, 50. 53 in mesquite and 50 up in indian springs. for the las vegas valley, we'll get down to the mid-30s officially at mccarran. some neighborhoods around the edges could be a little bit colder, closer to 31, possibly 30. tomorrow's high temperature, 54 with plenty of cool sunshine and not much wind and your seven-day forecast. get ready to blow again. round one comes in on friday.

one big project on the summerlin parkway nearly completed. so it's time for another one to begin. starting december 4th and going through july of next year, expect delays going west. that new westbound lane being constructed between durango and rampart. the hov is being extended. most work will occur during daytime hours but nig care packages will soon be getting to our heros. >> thanks to the generosity of our community and the blue star mothers. they've been collecting donations. today, they joined other volunteers and the henderson mayor and they put the packages together. you can see the assembly line here. all done with love. there's still time to donate. you can find collection boxes at henderson city hall and the city's rec center.

we are talking catastrophic proportions here. three people are dead. hundreds of buildings are destroyed in resort towns in eastern tennessee. wildfires are raging through gatlinburg and pigeon fork. >> 14,000 people had to get out, evac, appalachians. the mountain sides are being torn up. here's more. >> reporter: out of control wildfires force thousands to flee. some evacuees have to drive through the flames to get to safety. more than a dozen fires threaten the great smoky mountains of eastern tennessee. but instead of seeing the serene mountainside, people feel hot flames and stinging smoke being pushed by strong winds. >> the power went out. it was very dark.
