christmas will cost a little more this year. "early today" starts right now. >> good being with you this morning. i'm frances rivera. parts of the country are waking up with all hell having broken loose, as some put it. severe wildfires charred parts of the southeast in places like florida, north carolina, georgia, and tennessee, and tornadoes ripped through alabama and mississippi, ravaging towns there. we begin with tennessee wildfires where the death toll has risen to seven after three more bodies were >> all of us are praying for those families and are very distressed at the loss of life in this situation. and we continue our efforts to move into these areas and recover. >> well, those efforts continue this morning after the state's governor held a call with president obama where he offered condolences and support. officials in tennessee there say the fires are likely to have

charred, making it the state's largest wildfire in over 100 years. and as of this morning, just one active fire remains. with some 400 buildings now damaged, families are in desperate need of support. tennessee's own dolly parton is stepping forward, offering a helping hand through her foundation. >> we want to provide a hand up to all those families who have lost everything in the fires and to recover, we want to make sure that the dollywood foundation provides their homes in the fires until they get back up on their feet. >> good to see her helping. and now, to even more devastation to the series of tornadoes that barreled through the southeast, the death toll now stands at five after bodies were recovered in alabama and tennessee. watch as this whirlwind forms becoming a full fledged tornado leaving homes demolished.

>> officers have not identified the officer. he is the fourth tacoma officer in three decades to be killed responding to a domestic violence call. >> an outrage on the streets of charlotte as protesters marched against the decision not to charge a police officer for the fatal shooting of keith scott. here's them chanting. arrested, the police call the event mostly peaceful and tweeted photos of their constructive conversation teams listening to protesters' concerns and answering questions. earlier, the district attorney said that officer bradley vincent who killed keith lumotscott acted lawfully despite scott's families claims he wasn't holding a gun when he was shot.

the 45th president. we're getting reports of another high profile name being floated for trump's cabinet. former alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential nominee sarah palin is considered to head the department of veterans uz fairs. while palin is not a veteran, she's the mother of one, and perhaps more significantly, she's a trump loyalist with ties to steve bannon. later today, trump and mike pence will head to cincinnati, ohio, to head off their thank you tour and make a stop in indiana, where carrier air conditioning has reached a deal to keep 1,000 jobs from being relocated to mexico. while many celebrate that news, others remain skeptical. kevin tibbles has more. >> shift change in indy. carrier workers leave with a reprieve. >> jobs are being saved. >> a different mood from last february's announcement that

in today's quick hits, the estate of late rock icon prince is estimated to be worth about $200 million. the associated press calculated that amount based on fees filed in court by the trust company overseeing the estate. the police in new york could sure use a rainbow. they have launched aan stealing a real bucket of gold from the back of an armored vehicle. it happened while the guard was distracted. this 86-pound bucket was filled with gold flakes worth $1.6 million. the suspect is believed to be in florida. and hundreds of copies of "newsweek with headline right there, "madam president" sold online. some as much as $1,000.

this being december 1st, we call this our meteorological winter, goes to the end of february. december is going to be colder than average because of the cold shot coming in next week and all through next week, and as far as too, wetter than normal. maybe the northern rockies will be the place to be for skiing this winter. off to a great start. >> maybe a white christmas. bill, thank you. officials have issued a deadline for protesters at the dakota access pipeline to vacate, but they're getting re-enforcements. some 2,000 veterans are traveling there to protect the protesters acting as human shields.
