sr. took a call from his son jamal dean right after the shooting of sioux city police officer kevin mccormick in april of 2013. he then picked up his son and dropped him off at the home of his uncle steffen dean in sioux city. just 31 hours later, levon dean sr. appeared on ktiv urging his son to turn himself into authorities. here's what he said then: "i'm sorry with what went down. we want to say we're very sorry to his family." six days after the officer's shooting authorities caught up to jamal dean about 70 miles from the mexico border. levon dean, sr. finally came clean months later. in august of this year, he received three years of probation and ordered to serve 15 weekends in jail. the uncle steffen dean ended up with one year probation. others received sentences for their roles in taking jamal dean to south sioux city, winnebago, and back to the palmer house motel in sioux city. that's where jamal dean and his brother levon were actually accused of robbing a person of money and meth almost two weeks before the shooting of officer

jamal dean received 25 years in prison for the attempted murder of officer mccormick. in january, he received life in prison for other violent crimes he committed over the years. his brother lavon dean received 33 years for his crime sprees. here's a look at the other people sentenced in the dean conspiracy case. kimberly smith who lived with the uncle was sentenced to eight months. anna baker received four months in federal prison. ingmar hernandez received 33 months. and, monica rocha- contreras was sentenced to 15 days in the woodbury county jail. we have another cool night on tap in siouxland. here to tell us more is chief meteorologis t ron demers joins with the first look at our forecast at six. weather ad-lib after a cool morning start that saw many of us go into the upper 30s, it turned into a very nice afternoon with highs in the 70s. we'll see more 30s tonight for lows with highs tomorrow just a bit cooler as we go up to about 70. breezy conditions will move in for thursday keeping highs in the upper

a community is mourning the loss of one man after the dixon county sheriff said he died from a flash fire at a restaurant in allen, nebraska last week. the fire happened last thursday in allen. authorities say 70-year- old gerald, or jerry, koch of newcastle, nebraska was in critical condition and transported to an omaha hospital by mercy air care. he died from the injuries on sunday. the other person injured was identified as 69-year-old carol koch, his

condition but has been released from the hospital. the fire happened when flammable liquid ignited. it has been ruled an accidental fire. according to koch's obituary, funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on saturday at st. peter's catholic church in newcastle, nebraska. a house fire last night evening left a terril, iowa family homeless. fire departments from terril, spirit lake, milford and superior were called to 306 state street in terril and found the structure pretty much engulfed. five members of the family of six were home at the time. they managed to get out safely, along with the family's dog. there's no word on a probable cause. it's believed the fire started in a garage on the south side of the house, owned by tim and michelle roth. it was about a year ago, a storm caused extensive damage to one siouxland town. trees were lifted from their roots... debris was scattered everywhere... and the one structure not covered under insurance was destroyed.

park is bigger and stronger than ever. nat a few changes were made to the structure. before the storm, these poles sat on top of concrete and were bolted into the ground. now, they sit four feet deep into the ground, surrounded by concrete. so if a storm were to come again, the shelter would be ready. "i'm not saying this one wouldn't come done, but it will take a lot more to bring this one down," says peterson. the shelter is not only stronger than it was before... it's also bigger. it use to be 576 square feet. now, it's 864 square feet. which means more room for picnic tables and people. they also added electricity. the symphony to students. conductor, ryan haskins, spoke about the history behind beethoven's music. and, the orchestra played excerpts from beethoven's 9th symphony. "an education should be well- rounded. it's not just math and science, but the arts and humanities and things like that so they get a well- rounded experience out of this," said executive director of the orchestra, mark francis. the annual education concert for fourth graders will be in february. iowa secretary of agriculture bill northey today announced that the iowa department of agriculture is requesting pre-applications for projects located in urban areas that are focused on improving water quality. cities, soil and water conservation districts, watershed groups and other organizations are eligible to submit applications. the pre-application must be submitted by friday, december 11th. shoppers are getting an early jump on the holiday shopping season. according to a survey by digital marketing company session-m, 1 in 4 people have already started their holiday shopping. and more than half plan to begin shopping

before black friday on november 27th. that's good news for retailers who expect holiday sales to increase by nearly 4-percent this year. last year, the busiest shopping day was december 20th... the last saturday before christmas. check twice before you make that hotel reservation. a recent survey conducted for the american hotel and lodging association found six percent of travelers who had booked a room online thought they were booking directly with the hotel. but later found out they had used an imposter site. based on the survey, the group now estimates 15 million hotel bookings were made on rogue websites last year. with more than a billion dollars going into the pockets of scam artists. prior to the survey, the group estimated online booking scams to be much smaller at about two and a half million bookings a year. brad's here -- the hawkeyes are hurting. iowa will be without four starters when they go to northwestern on saturday, trying to stay undefeated. and, the morningside women start the quest to defend their national championship. sports fource is next.
