with authorities involved with the case. ktiv's tiffany lane joins us live from sioux city police headquarters with the details. tiffany? i'll have more details tonight on news 4 at ten. sheila? today's sentencings ended the case that all started after the shooting of officer kevin mccormick.

sr. took a call from his son jamal dean right after the shooting of sioux city police officer kevin mccormick in april of 2013. he then picked up his son and dropped him off at the home of his uncle steffen dean in sioux city. just 31 hours later, levon dean sr. appeared on ktiv urging his son to turn himself into authorities. here's what he said then: "i'm sorry with what went down. we want to say we're very sorry to his family." six days after the officer's shooting authorities caught up to jamal dean about 70 miles from the mexico border. levon dean, sr. finally came clean months later. in august of this year, he received three years of probation and ordered to serve 15 weekends in jail. the uncle steffen dean ended up with one year probation. others received sentences for their roles in taking jamal dean to south sioux city, winnebago, and back to the palmer house motel in sioux city. that's where jamal dean and his brother levon were actually accused of robbing a person of money and meth almost two weeks before the shooting of officer

a community is mourning the loss of one man after the dixon county sheriff said he died from a flash fire at a restaurant in allen, nebraska last week. the fire happened last thursday in allen. authorities say 70-year- old gerald, or jerry, koch of newcastle, nebraska was in critical condition and transported to an omaha hospital by mercy air care. he died from the injuries on sunday. the other person injured was identified as 69-year-old carol koch, his

condition but has been released from the hospital. the fire happened when flammable liquid ignited. it has been ruled an accidental fire. according to koch's obituary, funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on saturday at st. peter's catholic church in newcastle, nebraska. a house fire last night evening left a terril, iowa family homeless. fire departments from terril, spirit lake, milford and superior were called to 306 state street in terril and found the structure pretty much engulfed. five members of the family of six were home at the time. they managed to get out safely, along with the family's dog. there's no word on a probable cause. it's believed the fire started in a garage on the south side of the house, owned by tim and michelle roth. it was about a year ago, a storm caused extensive damage to one siouxland town. trees were lifted from their roots... debris was scattered everywhere... and the one structure not covered under insurance was destroyed.

ktiv's brianna clark shares how a 20-thousand- dollar grant has helped make a park shelter house more sound than ever.

park is bigger and stronger than ever. nat a few changes were made to the structure. before the storm, these poles sat on top of concrete and were bolted into the ground. now, they sit four feet deep into the ground, surrounded by concrete. so if a storm were to come again, the shelter would be ready. "i'm not saying this one wouldn't come done, but it will take a lot more to bring this one down," says peterson. the shelter is not only stronger than it was before... it's also bigger. it use to be 576 square feet. now, it's 864 square feet. which means more room for picnic tables and people. they also added electricity.
